yesterday's first Loose Lips condo: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=41800

Hi Everyone,
Since I've been up for hours mopping in the cellar, I thought I'd take a break and open the communal condo. The water seems a little bit less this morning. We are hoping that it will be safe to leave for NYC tomorrow. We postponed not just because of the flood in the cellar (seepage caused by the high water table this year because of all the snow we had this winter), but also because of the 2 (!) fur shots I gave Rusty yesterday. We wanted him to have a day free of travel to get back to his normal numbers. I realize that the shed will have to refill, so am not expecting any greens today.

Hey Kitties, I'm going to NYC tomorrow and I'd like to invite you all to party with me on Tuesday. We can go to Central Park and visit the hotdog carts (we can visit a bunch of them and do a taste comparison). We can pose to have our pictures taken by the tourists. The day will evolve however we want it to. Hope you all can come.
Rusty

We are sending healing vines, good thoughts, and prayers to all our sick kitties.

hahaha, pretty funny. can you just see a mob of cats traveling around New York City together?

how long til the flooding stops enough that the sump pump will be able to handle it? are you talking about keeping up flood control for weeks or days?

Hi Guys. Feels like I have a home again

Ella I didn't know about your flood. I'm sorry. What a pain to deal with. I can imagine with ALL that snow lots of people are having issues.

I'm sitting here having a coffee and listening to thumping and running upstairs. Feels good to have activity in the house

The new sump pump (a heavy-duty one) is doing great. It's just that the water has to get to it!! (This is seepage, not a flowing flood. Parts of the cellar are covered in about 1 inch of water, but they are nowhere near the sump pump. There are channels chiseled in the floor and the water moves through them slowly.) Thank goodness we discovered a few days ago that the old sump pump was burned out!! It would be a disaster without the pump!!

Hey Karrie, I'm so glad you're staying in LL. Loved reading about Henry and Victoria yesterday.

Are we allowed to start a daily Loose Lips thread? :?:

For those who asked, the Revolution is for ticks, fleas, heartworm, hookworm, and roundworm. The vet recommended it even though neither civies go outside. Squishy had fleas when he was a kitten and he was indoor-only. He was on liquid Program for awhile and had a few flea baths. Interestingly, his sister who lived upstairs didn't have any fleas.

The oven roasted veggie suggestions yesterday sound good  Wish I could make some but I can't open the oven door (any door really) without a civie trying to climb in/see what's on the other side @-)

Leroy attempted to visit Squishy again this morning. I think he does it just so I get out of bed :?

Emma fell off the bed last night with a thump :o I think Leroy tried to play with her and ended up pushing her off :o

((Karrie)) There's always a place for you and every bean who has a GA here :YMHUG: Feel free to post on the Yuku.com board. Sometimes I post stuff about Squishy and the civies over there instead of taking up space here.

Yes, having activity in the house is great :-D Although I'm still not sure what Squishy had in mind when he sent me a crazy energetic trouble-causing Aby and, later, a second energetic cat @-) I'm still worried about all the thumping and running noise the two make all the time nailbite_smile

I'm glad to hear the cellar is coming back normal. That is such a horrible chore to deal with. I know I freak-out over the littlest amount of water in the basement.

Oh....NYC, lights, Time Square, da' Library (actually very cool place), hotdogz cartz. I be packin' me bagz now! ~~Attie

Hi Squeem3,
I believe that the rules are that we (whoever gets there first) are supposed to open a new Loose Lips condo every day and link the previous day's condo to it. Today's condo will be closed and locked tonight (will someone on the West Coast please see to the locking?) [Edited to say that I think a moderator has to do the locking: we "users" do not have that link. Perhaps Jill locked yesterday's condo?]

Fleas!! Alice had terrible fleas once. We had hundreds of flea eggs in our bed!! I vacuumed every day for months. We had to have Alice "dipped". Finally got rid of them. This was in the days when you could only get flea collars or flea powder.

i've got a wiggle worm on my lap - she keeps putting her tail in my face for me to admire and rubbing her face on my hands. standing up in front of the screen, too. anya is one of Those who takes forever to settle in. and while she's settling, she keeps sticking her behind right in my face.

so it must be an unfinished basement? we have a daylight basement house, but the downstairs is finished except for the shop - which has the furnace, hot water heater & a lot of wood-working equipment in it.

ugh, punkin is back to not looking well. that was a brief respite. i need to try to get this cerenia into him.

Are you sure about the killing of ticks with Revolution? I have been waiting for someone to come out with a flea preventative that also kills ticks and heartworm. I thought Revolution still doesn't kill ticks on cats. I currently use Frontline Plus because of all the ticks here, but I also always in the back of my mind worry about heartworm, too.

You always have a home here, Karrie :-D We're a big part of your family (((hugs))).

Morning, guys! Slow start this morning here.... and I think I could go back to sleep!! Sorry that you're still battling the water in the basement, Ella! Hope things get better soon!

Beth... love the picture!!! Purrfect!!

Julie, the NYC thing is a hoot! A couple months ago, I had this mental image of like 50 cats converging on a hot dog cart, with Mannie at the front, gently pushing forward a $100 bill, then all of them just sitting there staring intently, meowing in protest when the guy would try to put the dogs on buns. I laughed so hard and had to share. On one of their latest trips, Rusty, Moonie and the Sugarcats sang in the subway and made enough money to actually buy a cart, which is now installed in the KTSS bus and kept stocked by Willie and his constant runs to Costco (it is only a block or so away from my apt!).

DS has to work tonight, so thinking I'll put the lamb on at noon and let it go for a few hours. The consensus on the interwebs is that they take 3-4 hrs. to get tender. Going to braise it with some fennel and diced tomatoes... should break down into a nice stew. Hoping they'll all fit in my dutch oven, though I do have another pan that would work. Everything else I'm making is pretty easy, so it should be a low-key day!

Jen-- do you have a toaster oven? I find they work great for roasting veggies... Added bonus?? Not at kitty level!   Willie likes to inspect the goings on in the oven as well!

Woo hoo!! NYC dis week! Rusty, can't wait!! I tink a hotdog taste test sounds great!! Maybe we cud go hed to hed wif de cart in de bus?? Or set up a hotdog sale jus' for de kittehs of NYC? We'z just gotz to keep it movin... dat whole permit bidness an' all... maybe we can borrow a bean's cell phone an' tweet our locations? Sooo excited!! --Willie

i was trying to upload a picture of the fire spinning as an attachment and it keeps loading 100% then saying the site might be down for repair or configured incorrectly. wondering if there is a difference in this thread from the others? not sure why that would be . . . but i've uploaded pics off the same camera card to my condo.

The pic with the cat and hotdog just cracked me up! I'm a bit unorganized today. I went btd, which I do sometimes, but never this long - it may have been almost two hours. I did a furshot, too!

Hey Rusty, NYC and the party on Tuesday is a winner. I'm already packing and will check in later for further details. See ya later, Maggie

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Ella: glad you have the sump going and the basement issue getting under control. I'm sure the kitties will all enjoy visit the Big Apple again.

Christie: you sound like you're whipping up a wonderful meal!! Yummmy!!!

Karrie: we're glad to have you back home. Gotta check yesterday's condo and see how the adopticats are doing.

Everyone have a wonderful holiday.

Julie, I think you have to re-size the picture to make it smaller. I had that problem too, and Ann told me to resize and it works. Good luck. It would be neat to see the pic of your son spinning.

Breaking News from the Cheese Summits:

Cheeze summit commenced once the mediator removed the gates. The cheese platter was shared by both delegates as the MudCats gazed on longingly from the safety of her blanket bunker. Several areas of dispute were rectified. First was who was to have possession of the summit squeezey cheese. Attie made an attempt to take possession and was resoundly swatted on top of his head by Delegate Gary. A few more turns of the cheese platter and it was Gary attempting to take possession of the squeezey cheese, Attie promptly let Gary have a swat for violating elder kitty protocols. A final turn of the cheese platter and both Attie and Gary retired to the sofa area.

After a mutual nap on the sofa, Attie ventured to the family room with Gary following behind. The family room was inspected for surprises of which there was only one: MudCat. MudCat remained statuesque observing the delegates.

Attie started to make a move for pounce and play on Gary, but the mediator intervened and explained it might be too soon for such wanton activities. Instead all were encouraged to observe the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks just outside the door in the backyard habitat.

the cheese summit took place at a GLORIOUS location! woot!

ah, and then we have Big Mac checking out what the Easter bunny left him. awesome!

i think i'll just post a link to my FB page - i guess i don't care if there are any creeper lurkers who see my name. dun dun dun perhaps i'll delete it at the end of the day anyway.

Here ya go. He's the one in the red cap in the first pic, farthest away. One of his 5 housemates is in the purple pants closest to the camera. The rest of the pics are all of him. Playing with fire makes him happy - makes his momma nervous, but what do you do. he's 22 - it's not like i can take it away.

Cheese summit, easter presents, AND fire??? woo hoo!! Lamb is bubbling away in the oven, albeit a couple hours behind my somewhat arbitrary schedule. While the bean was working in the kitchen, Willie got some outdoor time (with plants shielded this time!) and then another round of baby food/BG mix before retiring to the living room. Think maybe I'll give him a poke....

I just scanned this photo of Donovan wearing bunny ears in 1997 (about 1 year old).
Unfortunately I have no idea where the ears are now or I'd take more pics.

img048-1.jpg

LOL No, just mixing Merrick BG with baby food to try to get back to eating just BG!! Once you give Willie something he REAAALLLYYY likes, that is all he will want to eat.

love all the pics! Donovan looks just like my TC (ga) kitty. she had the softest fur i've ever felt. she died in 1996 and i can still "feel" it.

Just checked the package. Ticks are not listed. I thought it also took care of ticks but guess not.

Loving all the pics!!!    who ever is "fixing" the technical dificulties is gorgeous, Libby!!!

DS and I just finished dinner a bit ago. The lamb came out very good... I ended up putting all of the marinade into the pot (slow cooking for 3+ hours at 350 would easily kill any bacteria), and added an onion, 2 fennel bulbs, some white wine, a carton of chicken stock, 2 cans of diced tomatoes and 2 cans of white beans, and then nestled the lamb down into that (after dredging with flour and browning). It all came together in this lovely thick stew. We had the roasted potatoes and some locally produced rosemary bread with butter on the side. Was really delicious. If I try lamb shanks again, I think I'd like to go heartier, with a red wine/beef stock mix with lots of cremini mushrooms, baby carrots and pearl onions. I think the heartier flavors would also complement the heartier flavor of the shank. Tried to give Willie a bit, but I guess it was too fancified for him. He sniffed, then tried to bury it.   Guess he showed me!!

Well....that lamb sure sounds good tonight!

Libby that is a very pretty problem to have!

My evening was keeping Attie under control as every time he saw Gary...he wanted to play and be super friendly with him. I know it is play because of the butt wiggle and front stiff legged approach, but it seems Gary doesn't understand cat sign language! ohmygod_smile

Unfortunately, Gary gets freaked out ....

Guess I may have to put Attie back on the harness...

I can't help it, it is kinda' funny ...although I know if Gary gets a bad scare that will put an end to progress too.

Loving the pics, and reading about Attie wanting to play. What a doll. Wonder if Gary will be good buddies with them. Wonder if he misses being out in the tough outdoors?

Great pics tonight, guys! The Easter Bunny had lots of help.
Ni ni, gotta get up before the crack of dawn to drive to NYC. Rusty came down pretty far from his 2 fur shots yesterday and is ready (I hope) for the trip. The cellar is still full of water. We have decided to fuhgeddaboutit.
Party for all kitties in Central Park on Tuesday. Don't forget about it!!

When you're in NYC yell across the Hudson River to Alex, Jackson and I so we can come meet you. Depending on the time of day...we can be there in 25 minutes to share a hot dog
