Guidelines:

  • Have fun! If you are in need of insulin advice or support please post in your condo!

This thread can evolve in any direction the group needs on any particular day. From the kitty pawties too the outer limits of the cat galaxy!

Anyone can start the thread on any given day
, but please keep it to just one thread per day. And like all our condos, link back to the previous day!

Recap of yesterday's events:

All the kitties continue to guard the catnip patch as the bad men's were sprayin' something poolside.

KTSS was needed for Shadow and Raja

Summit After Work Party at Attie's

So it is Caturday, What's on the agenda for the day?

Squishy Merlin says don't forget the Lantus board on Yuku.com for all non-FD stuff and chit-chat, LLEF info, and a live chat room http://lalalalantus.yuku.com/login/loginnow/Login-to-Yuku.html

Civies are still bcatrun_gif bcatrun_gif and driving me nuts @-) Leroy has been visiting Squishy's special spot lately.... and knocking stuff off @-) I have to find a safe place for Squishy now before Leroy knocks him over and causes irreplacable damage @-) @-) Emma has only visited Squishy once and hasn't done it again since I told her NO.

Just want to give a shout out to Blue for starting the first Lantus Land Loose Lips & starting it really well ;-)

our son is spinning poi tonight at his campus - and we're wanting to go but this sick kitty . . . ugh. bad combo. he graduates the 15th and we haven't seen him perform with his club yet. spinning poi is fire-spinning - ball of fire on the end of a chain and they twirl them like a baton. we've had many private shows (and i have beaten fire off of him *sigh*) but not seen him with the whole club.

thanks for starting this, beth!

I agree! thanks Beth!!

Julie - I hope you will be able to go. It sounds fascinating.

Squishy - Mannie is more than willing to come and help. He runs a good security patrol....

And from Mannie:
My friends!!! KTSS big time this morning! or afternoon, or.... we have so many sick friends: Punkin, and Ralphie and Ali and hopefully not Spot, and Shadow and Raja, and Copper, and Tessie Lou and who did I forget?. I need more pots for the chicken soup! and Tobey: get them paws limbered up - lots of massages needed. Afterwards we need to help Gracie with her catnip patch, them bad mens are back, and the patch is in danger... See you guys there! Maybe we can go mountain hang gliding again..~~ Mannie

What a great idea for a 'condo'!

Jezebel is not amused with her foster brother. He is a 1 1/2 year old Wheaten Terrier - a big ball of energy. He tries to play with her ..but she is not amused! He muzzles her and she hisses and swats...but doesn't run. (I think she may secretly love it :-D ...she always used to try and snuggle up to her woof sister).

Debie & Jezebel (& Sassy & Darcy & Foster brother Breezy)

Thanks Beth!!! I goofed (before I saw this condo) and wrote about our basement woes in Rusty's condo. I'll move it here now:

We have cold, we have freezing rain and sleet, we have so much water in our basement that if it were frozen we could skate on it. I just got here to the board after 2 hours of mopping and using the shop vac in it's wet-pickup mode. As soon as I get the water down, it comes back again! The new sump pump helps, but most of the water can't get to it! Very disheartening, especially since we plan to go to NYC tomorrow. We may have to postpone until Monday and then have a monster day (trip + a 5-hour opera at night).

That's it: the beginning of my day (I'm exhausted already)!!! Great to see this new condo.

Ella

ella, you poor thing - that sucks. we came home to a flood in the basement one time - the hot water heater had died and leaked, but it was just a pond 6' across rather than the entire basement. had to shop vac it, lift up the carpet and it did dry.

same carpet now covered with vomit. i haven't gotten to it yet from yesterday. how gross and repulsive is that?!

Perfect venue for folks to chat with new friends, get to know each other without bogging down the business end of FDMB. Great idea!!

Oh Ella...that is horrible.

Basement flooding is no fun at all!

Hi Mannie!!!! I'z is ready to helps whereeverz needed! Sounds like we mights has to splits-up da' duties today. Good things you gots all dem cooking traineez....we all are gonna be hungry tonites! ~~Attie

Raja & Shadow are lying around acting like they need some friends to stop by again...I know they are feeling better cause they ate their cat food and asked for more of that yummy soup guys, so don't fall for their "act"...I think they might be out of the woods now...
I explained that your presence is needed for other sick kitties now....that they have to finish getting better themselves and leave you guys to your busy work. Hey, maybe they will snap out of it if I tell them that they can join you guys on your rounds....
You guys are amazing!!! Thank you for your hep yesterday....it made a big difference for us here...love to you all!
Healing vines to all our sick babies....wishing you all a good day...

I really like this by Amy Powell:
Little cat, are you as glad to have me to lie upon As I am to feel your fur under my hand?

Thanks Blue for starting this thread. Great idea!

Hey Mannie, the KTSS today sounds great for visiting all our friends not feeling well. So glad Shadow and Raja are doing better. They gave us quite a scare! I can bring some extra pots for the chicken soup, since I'm not that handy in the kitchen, and they are brand new. Guarding the catnip patch at Gracie's is always fun, too. I'll be waiting for you to pick me up. See ya soon, Maggie

Hi all.....

Sorry to hear about all the sick kitties and basement problems....hope the weekend gets better for everyone.

I iz ready to work or cook or guard or massage - just tells me where I'm needed. ~Zoe

Sump pumps are a great solution to the flooded basement problem. We purchased one with a marine battery back-up. If the rain storms are long enough and fierce enough, we lose power and then the sump pump, obviously, doesn't work. After one afternoon of bailing out the non-working sump hole, we got the battery. Not cheap, but well worth it.

Thanks, Beth, for getting this started. It's a great idea. Anyone heard from Celi lately? I worry when she's not around for a day or so!!
Also on the MIA list: Violet and Chaos and Mike and Buddy....any ideas where they all are? I haven't seen condos from them in a bit but I got behind on condos and they might have said they wouldn't be posting.

Tobey has been doing all kinds of paw exercises this morning and says he is ready to go out with the KTSS krewe and get some massaging done. I could use it myself   Gracie wanted me to ask everyone to bring a favorite regional dish to the house today for a little party after KTSS and mountain hang gliding. She thinks the deck is done enough for sunning on it and she's ready for a deck pre-christening party!!!

We're all ready to go take care of all our sick friends. We hope Spot isn't sick, too, and are glad Raja and Shadow are better. The bean is cooking up some janopeno quail poppers for when we get back from mountain hang gliding. The catnip patch is secure right now. The bad mens are gone for the weekend and the deck is done enough for us to lay on it and sun later when we want to chillax. I

Well after last nights spontaneous storms...

It is sunny and warm enough to go without a coat or long sleeves!!!

First new client set-up, new pet visit done, and one later on today to go...

Hope everyone's day is improving I know the kitties have lots of folks to visit for some ktss, clean-ups...hang gliding and go, go, go!!! Do they ever not have something going on?

We always have something to do...we're cats....the rest is up to the bean! ~~Attie

punkin could volunteer to bring salmon, our particular northwest treat, but he really can't be trusted to not eat it before all the other kitties get any!

it's stunningly gorgeous here too - mid 50's but sunny, blue sky & bright. i hear lawn mowers in the background! tomorrow the rains return, but for today . .

anya has a new toy. she fished a bit of garbage out (haagen daz wrapper with the stick inside) and is both batting it around and picking it up and tossing it.

punkin, on the other hand, has only one mission in life right now. stare at me until i get it through my head that i have cheated him of WAAYYY too much food in the past day and i need to get up and feed him. "there's the Feed Me Contract, you know, mom!"

Will this be a daily thing? This absolutely made my day!!!!!!!!!!! I've been mourning the loss of Maverick's condo along with Maverick. Kind of tearing up writing that. Its very hard to put it into words what I mean. It would be great to have a place to visit with all the LL folks all around us for that fix of LL and chatter. I do not have capacity to read all the condo's like I used to. It would be cool if someone up to speed on all the news would flag some extra special ones. Like Copper today. I saw it on facebook or I wouldn't have known otherwise. Miss all of you.

I thought you guys might enjoy this. It was originally created and posted by naamah_darling on Livejournal.

20 Steps To Cat Ownership: A Primer

1. Set your favourite three sweaters on your bed, and then use a small knife to shred them.

1b. Scold yourself. Shred the couch in revenge for being scolded.

2. Put a bowling ball in the exact center of the bed (and/or directly in your pillow). Try to get comfortable.

3. Take a nap. Get a friend to smack you in the face with a feather duster every time it looks like you're starting to fall asleep.

4. Get a recording of a cat meowing incessantly. Set it as your alarm. Set the alarm for 3am.

5. Buy a bag of tinsel, feathers, or anything that will act similarly to hair. Spread it over every surface you own.

...

The list goes up to 20, and I don't want to spam this post (unless people ask otherwise). :)
The rest can be found at the original post HERE.

hahaha cherie, that's cute. hadn't seen it before. i think posting it here would've been fine, but since you posted the link, that's fine too. this is the place for chatter.

karrie YES, this is your new place, where we can keep up on each other! it must be hard to not make a daily condo when you've been doing it for so long. If you get on in the morning and it's not started yet, please start a new one and link the old one to it.

how are your new babies doing? do tell!

punkin is still staring at me intermittently. he does this Joe Cool thing where he pretends he's looking to his left, then stares at me, then looks to his right, like he only accidentally caught my eye for The Look. I'm giving him a little more food in 15 minutes. so far so good with the AB in the little bit of FF he got.

20 Steps To Cat Ownership: A Primer

6. Have a friend or loved one sink needles into your flesh at random intervals. Once you are used to this, have them do it while hugging and cuddling. Make sure they know to do this while you are on the phone.

7. Ask a neighbor to knock on your door randomly at all hours of the day and night. When you answer the door, have the neighbor think for several minutes about which side of the door he wants to be on. Have the neighbor repeat this process with every door in the house in a random sequence.

8. Buy a cat-sized stuffed animal and fill it with lead pellets. Now learn to read ten-point type through it.

9. Have a friend come in and vomit randomly on the carpet about once a week. If your floors are hardwood, have him vomit on the furniture or on any available papers or books.

9b. If there are no papers or books on the floor, have the roommate pull some down. If the roommate lacks vomit, any bodily substance will do. The more unidentifiable, the better.

10. When you can deal with #9, acquire a roommate who will only use the toilet if it is perfectly clean. Clean the toilet. Then try to teach the roommate that sitting on the toilet with your butt hanging off the edge is not sufficient, without also teaching the roommate that the toilet is to be feared.

10b. If 10 is not challenging enough, acquire a roommate who decides that the proper place for the toilet is located in randomly-generated locations throughout the house. Become just psychic enough to move the toilet BEFORE the roommate decides to demonstrate this. This takes practice.

Karrie, I've missed you and was just about to E-mail you to see how you've been doing; I know and understand it's still so very hard with losing Maverick and the condo. Can you give us updates on your two new adoptions, Henry and Victoria? There will be a new thread every day and anyone can start it.

Very cute, Cherie!!! And perfect for Loose Lips.

Karrie: so GLAD to see you here!! I've been wondering how you and Patrick and Henry and Victoria are all doing!! We'd love an update!!

Good evening, guys!! Busy day of farmer's market and grocery shopping, along with lunch with DS. Also snuck in a much needed massage... especially stressful week + that TOM = big ball of knotted muscles.

Just butchered a poor lamb shank trying to butterfly it because the meat guy at the store indicated it was a leg, not a shank. *sigh* now not sure that this will be enough meat for DS and I for dinner tomorrow, so may run out again to grab a couple more. A bit peeved that I paid leg price for a shank. Marinade smells divine... lemons, olive oil, garlic, mint, cilantro and garlic chives. Going to braise in white wine tomorrow and serve with roasted fingerling potatoes (quite possibly, the world's most perfect food) and some sauteed mixed greens. All the lovely spring veggies at the farmer's market have me inspired to cook again!

So sorry that Ella and Julie are having basement issues... and that we have so many sick kitters!! Can't believe the pics coming from our fellow Missourians up the road in STL. Thankful that the bad stuff stayed south of my parents who live about 2 1/2 hrs north of there.

Many thanks to Beth for starting our very first chit-chat condo! I think it will be a valuable tool. Willie and I are on our way to Gracie's... me with a bottle of wine, and Willie with some special spiced rubbed Kansas City BBQ ribs.

Hope everyone is having a great start to their weekend!!

I'm doing so much better. Grief really sucks but it is a process and I will get through it. Waves.

Henry and Victoria are doing great and working on making my heart happy every day

Patrick woke me up this morning saying "are you awake". He had been waiting for me to wake up .... Henry was planted above his head and was alternating between grooming Patrick's hair and his own paws etc. Patrick is just loving Henry. Victoria is a little doll!!! She drools when she gets petted behind the ears. And has fallen asleep on my lap a few times. She's an explorer - anything and everything. The vacuum doesn't even phase her. Henry is a sissy LOL. They haven't connected with each other. About six inches nose to nose this morning and then backed off. Progress. There of course is so much more. I don't know "who" they are yet. It will be a bit before they are completely settled and I will get to know them fully.

I'm absolutely thrilled you guys are doing this thread daily. It made me so happy. I feel like I have a home again LOL. I would be happy to start it, if no one else does.

Off to eat dinner and I'll be back to read everyones posts in more detail. I miss you guys.

Thanks for the updates, Karrie, on Victoria and Henry. I had to laugh about Henry grooming Patrick's hair. I think Henry is saying he owns Patrick and adores him. Their little personalities are starting to show. They sound like thy feel comfy in their new forever home. Yes, by all means, start the thread whenever you can at the top of the day. Take care and lots of hugs and skritches to Henry and Victoria.

Karrie it is so very good to hear from you and about your newest additions. Give them some time to settle in and all sounds like it is really going well.

New places, new peoples, new kitty friends... give them time to settle in.

As indicated in the very first post anyone can start the daily chit-chat thread! I am not planning on starting tomorrow, so take a swat at it.

Special prayers going out to Roni and Copper. Don't forget Moonie too in those thoughts and prayers. I know when MudCat was affected by Krueger's (GA) situation.

Gracie's this evening poolside hang gliding to unwind too. Regional food from Cleveland, Ohio....Guy's that is kinda tough....I know...Walleye! See ya' soon. ~~Attie

yay karrie! what a delight to get to know their personalities! so much fun.

beth, LOVE the picture of hangliding kitty!

christie, nom nom nom that sounds like a perfect easter dinner. our elder daughter is coming home - the two college kids are staying put. our eldest is a vegetarian and yes, i believe we are having a burrito bar for easter dinner. i am going to make fresh tortillas, because that adds something. i guess it's not what's on the menu, right, but fingerling potatoes and garlic . . . oh my yum.

perhaps we need to send the Loose Lips Search & Rescue out for Celi and Binks . . .

Squishy says, yes he would like protection from the rambunctious kittens he sent to Human ;-) Not good if his special box is ever damaged  He will offer payment in special angel low carb nip treats

Squishy's special spot: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_SbfdsHhH-kc/TZciQUER7QI/AAAAAAAACKI/41cGVOJ2fj8/s720/IMG_1355.jpg

Civies got their monthly dose of Revolution today. This time I put it right at the base of their neck towards the center so the wouldn't lick it off like last month. They did do some licking but I didn't see either of them actually reach the application spot. And I made sure they didn't groom each other afterwards. Leroy also had his teeth brushed to keep those toofies clean and keep the stinky breath away. He won't gnaw on raw poultry gizzards or necks. I'm still working on getting Emma used to me touching her mouth :? No idea how her previous family treated her but she's a little skittish with being handled. I think an AC session might help Emma be more trusting.

Bought more NV raw for them today and also bought a bag of Wellness treats. Both liked them  Leroy scarfed them down with no problem. He chokes on crushed up freeze dried meat treats for some reason so I was a little worried about him eating the Wellness treats.

Karrie, warmed my heart to hear all about how the kids are settling in!! Love that Henry has taken to Patrick so, and that Miss Victoria is a lapnapper!! Anybody can open the loose lips condo... if I'm awake enough tomorrow at 5:30am for shot time, I may get the ball rolling. :) Of course, I may also already be back asleep!!

Indeed we may have to send out a search party for Celi... lets get the kids on it!!

Frustrated at the moment. Just got back from the store fetching more lamb shanks. Had never been to this particular store before (I called around first) and holey moley, it is nice! And the employees are all eerily friendly!! Lamb shanks are trimmed and in the marinade, but at this point, I've spent enough on this meal for just DS and I, I could have just taken us to Sunday brunch at Lidia's (as in PBS Lidia's Italy Lidia... she has an outpost of her restaurant here). Of course, that would have meant having to get her out of bed before 3pm...

[I should note, in fairness, that DS works overnights at the IRS, and has worked for like 7 days straight, 10 hours a day. The kid deserves to sleep... just puts brunch out of the question!]

Julie, your easter burrito bar sounds lovely! And is very smart way to please meat eaters and vegetarians alike! You can always throw some fingerlings in the toaster oven!  That's often how I cook mine... especially when in the summer when it is just too hot to fire up the oven to such high temps!

perhaps we need to send the Loose Lips Search & Rescue out for Celi and Binks . . .
I believe Celi has been very busy helping out her mother and sister and also helping coordinate the Easter festivities at the nursing home.

She'll be back soon! She's a popular lady!

does DS = dear son? or sister?

one of my fav recipes is roasted veggies - not toaster oven, but regular oven. potatoes, carrots, onions & whatever you like tossed with olive oil, rosemary & pressed garlic - an hour or so at 375, i think. wonder if they'd go with burritos?

haven't heard of revolution before - must be for flea control? i have to separate mine or they clean each other off. at the moment we're using advantage. all the fleas around here seem to be resistant to frontline.

Lovin' the Victoria and Henry updates. What lucky kitties!!

It's a much more relaxed atmosphere around here this evening, since Trix didn't take the "Let's dive into PMPS!" approach tonight. The beans are grateful for the break, and personally I think I'm going to celebrate by heading to bed any second now!

Julie...love the "burrito bar" idea. Hubby and I are both vegan...talk about throwing the families for a loop - especially since he's Ukrainian. "Vegan" and "Ukrainian" don't exactly go hand-in-hand. My mother panics every time she "has" to have us over for dinner! I always end up making dessert, which I love doing. Baking is one of my specialties. Easter dessert will be "Mississippi Mud Cake"...yum. Right now I own a bead store named "Artful Beads", but I have future plans for a vegan bakery named "Artful Sweets." Might not be for a good 10 years or so, but it is happening :-D .

C'mon, Ceili and Binks...we need us an appropriate graphic right about now  !

Amy

I make "oven roasted veggies" all the time...pretty much the same combo. Yum!

I don't use any flea control...I have to admit, that stuff really scares me, especially since our kitzsls don't go outside. I do keep a close eye on things, though, and if I felt it were necessary, I would look into something. So far, so good. I have to wonder if the fleas are resistant because everyone is using flea control...much like the "super bug viruses" we now have to worry about.

dear sister. :) she's 11 years younger and not always the most mature, and it's just the two of us here in KC, so it often feels like DD!!

I'm so excited for spring... my favorite roasted veggies are asparagus, baby zucchini, and, of all things, radishes! Roasting really brings out a great deal of natural sweetness and tames their bite. and they look so pretty on a salad. I usually do them on a bed of baby spinach tossed with a lemon/olive oil/fresh herb dressing. heavenly.

i've wondered if we could stop because the kitters are inside-only now. even so, we had a terrible problem a few months ago, maybe last summer. we were using frontline and it wasn't working. i can't use it on anya anyway, it puts her to sleep for a couple of days - no good.

asked the daughter what she would like for easter sunday dinner and she said either burrito bar or these black bean burgers we make. i opted for the burrito bar - you're right, it's perfect for the vegetarian/carnivore combo. all 3 of our kids are vegetarian - our foster daughter was for a while, but not anymore. she's sorta slid outta sight for the moment anyway. don't know if she'll be here or not. my husband & i eat mostly vegetarian or low on the food chain.

I'm getting some great ideas for dinners and recipes!! Keep 'em coming. I'm sure I'll do my usual of ham with potatoes in a cream sauce. It's what my mom always fixed for Easter so I have to keep up the tradition. :-D

And we have no fleas here in Las Vegas. Or mosquitoes. I remember visiting my sister in Northern California and her kitten had fleas and you could see them crawling on her little head!!! It was so gross :o

I think I need to move to Vegas! Skeeters love me, but I'm not so fond of them!

When we first got Mario, he was infested...and our older cat, Mr Kitty, was highly allergic. And this was all before the wonders of modern flea control. What a nightmare...but, fortunately, we all made it through...

ok my friends, Mannie here..... da bean finally gave me 'puter time! sheshhhhh, she keeps saying she's doing important stuff.... what could be more important that KTSS??? Huh????

Hey Willie - you need to get some of them lamb shanks from your bean - they would cook up really good in the soups. and you got KC BBQ ribs fro Gracie's???? SWEET! I am so there!

Hey Attie!! Nice shot of Gracie hang gliding! She could be a poster kitty ya know? :-D and yes on the Walleye - we have cooked them for some OTJ parties - they are yum!! I know on the splitting up the visits - so much to do! Good idea! see you soon!

Hey Gracie - awesome on the hang gliding - Attie brought his camera and took a photo!!! I like what your bean cooked: those jalopeno quail poppers were good.  I was worried about the catnip patch - the spraying didn't hurt it, huh That is good,. Guess the security system kept those bad mens away.

ZOE - come on over to Gracie's.. We re cooking up all the soups there and then will head on out to visit our sick friends. You wanna help Tobey with the massages? He's a good teacher!

Hi Maggie - Me too on Shadow and Raja, I was so worried. nailbite_smile And now Copper is really sick - we hafta see him tonight for sure. and thanks for the pots - we need them! and you are good in the kitchen, you'll see! On my way to picks you up!

Hey Auntie Pat - i am sooooo glad that your furkids are feeling better. I was so worried. nailbite_smile I thinks we will come and see them anyways, and if they want they can come with us to visit the others. That would be so cool. we hafta see Copper tonight.

Ok - I gotta go, my bean wants the 'puter back. I want my own.... See you!!

Mannie

Hey Guys,
I just took a quick spin through this condo and it is great! I wish I had had more time to read it today, but I was busy in the cellar!! We decided to wait another day before going to NYC because of the flooded cellar and because I apparently gave 2 fur shots today--back to back! So I'm looking forward to seeing everyone here tomorrow.
The water in the cellar is icy cold and my hands are blue. Rusty wants to go to bed and so do I. Ni ni!

Ella

places that have a lot of snow kill off fleas every year, so they usually don't have the problems those of us in moderate climate places have. at one point when my kids were young, pre-good-flea products, you could actually see the fleas hopping in the backyard. yes, it was gross. horrible. everybody got bites. we sprayed the yard with who knows what horrible toxin and killed everything that was there. the next year i realized i hadn't seen any birds in our yard for an entire year.

but what do you do? let your kids get eaten up? not go outside? so glad there are better products now. i'm completely opposed to the chemicals, but even now i'm not sure if we didn't have things like frontline and advantage what would've been the "right" thing to do.

ella, brrr, my hands have sympathy cold!

nice that your bean let you on the puter, mannie!

Mississippi mud cake?! i have a recipe for mississippi mud bars - yumm. artful sweets is a great name! you go girl!

I used to think an inside cat was safe from fleas too.

One round of fleas in the house that came from who knows where and one Feline Diabetic kitty who was also FAD (feline allergic dermatitis) and I was made a fan of flea products.

We use Advantage Multi/Advantage II round here. There are some side benefits between the two flea products of Frontline or Advantage. We chose the Advantage Multi, as a side benefit it actually helps prevent roundworms too. Attie had the worst case of worms and the rounder were one set. Those nasty buggers can live their entire lifecycle inside the cat! So that leaves either multiple wormings beyond the normal two or three with vettie meds. or continuous use of a product like Advantage. Gary also was diagnosed with roundworms and received an initial dose of worming meds. and is now on Advantage Multi too.

Frontline also helps prevent the nasty chewing lice in cats.

Unfortunately neither does both!
