Hello all,
Since April 9th we’ve had some back to back reductions. Littles #s hit the 30s on various doses to warrant reductions. Progress has now seemed to stall and I know she is due for an increase which I will implement tomorrow when I can be around to monitor closely given the recent drops to the 40s/30s over the last few weeks.
Little has been on Levemir for about a year. My question is does anyone think I should go back and give Lantus another try??? I realize now that when she was on Lantus I didn’t work the program properly/ held doses too long and was scared to shoot on lower numbers etc if you look at the 2020 Lantus/ Levemir tab and her 2019 Lantus June tab you will see I was not exactly working it the right way. Maybe I didn’t give Lantus a fair shake????
I know that I have come across people that went back to Lantus after trying Levemir so I am looking for advice and thoughts.
I ask because I want to order Littles next supply of insulin this week before the weather gets too hot. With all the transportation issues I don’t want the insulin sitting in hot trucks for longer than necessary.

I’ve only used Lantus and haven’t seen many go from Lev to Lantus. At one point I thought about switching to Lev but didn’t because if I had late nadirs it could have been an issue for me. I hope others who have used both reply.

Once I switched to Levemir and got used to it, I thought "why did I take so long to switch?". I very rarely see people switch back to Lantus from Levemir. Not that it doesn't happen, but Lev seems to give much more flat and predictable numbers. Neko liked it better (at times she was high dose) and I got more sleep on Lev. Neko sometimes walked away from her Lantus shot, but purred through the Lev one.

Your signature says you are feeding at +5. I wonder if a +4 feeding might be better to cushion the drops at onset. If you can feed her earlier, and slow the drops, you might prevent those plunges into low numbers, thus keeping her in safe greens longer.

Raised her .25 tonight and her + 8 is 43! Looks like Another sleepless night. I could try the *4 feed but her nadir is pretty late on Lev sometimes carrying over to the next cycle. Pretty sure that’s what happened tonight but I was unable to get a +2

Also- Wondering if maybe the Zobaline she gets in AM and NOT the PM could be making the night cycles that much lower??

The only reason I remember someone switching back to Lantus, was because they were out of insulin and the pharmacy didn't have Lev in stock. They went back to Lev when the Lantus was done.

Also- Wondering if maybe the Zobaline she gets in AM and NOT the PM could be making the night cycles that much lower??

That's a cat for you. That's why we stress those night time tests - a lot of cats go lower at night. Maybe because they are nocturnal animals?

Lol. I need to stop this bouncing. Again nadir was at +12. I wish I could remember who switched back from Lev to Lantus so I could see what happened. The lack of sleep is killing me!

Nope, not happening. Zobaline is just vitamin methyl B12 and folic acid. It's the cat. You are getting some daytime lows too. Neko once went three months (on Lantus) going low at night and bouncing during the day. I tried everything with regards to food, supplements. Switching to Levemir was the last thing I tried, and made it somewhat better. More importantly, she was flatter at night so I could rest more between tests.

Then I guess I’ll stick with it but dang.... I’m gonna need eye surgery if this lack of sleep keeps up. Thanks Wendy. Will order my new supply of Lev on Monday. That will give me 7 more months “ assuming” the current dose. I just wish I worked the Lantus with the same knowledge and confidence I have now - confidence being relative. Hard to have any when She’s still really up and down. The fact that she is “totally normal” in the 30s and 40s is a heck of a brain messer upper. I have to remember to not get complacent cause those numbers should b scary
