Are you using a Levemir vial or a pen? You don't inject air into the pen before drawing insulin.

I have used Carepoint Vet syringes (so still use them). I've not encountered the issue of negative vacuum causing the insulin to release prematurely.

Good morning Bhooma,
I use the Levemir pen and do NOT inject air or insulin back into the pen when I draw insulin. I love the smooth glide on these needles to push the plunger tiny increments for the exact dose [holding needle needle tip up]. But when I turn the needle upside down to give shot, after making sure evil is up, [and being very careful not to touch plunger until ready to administer], last glance noticed vacuum to release insulin prematurely. I recap the syringe and place in bowl to ready for shot. Then another look at dose markings on syringe [measure twice with magnifying glass to prevent dosage errors] I did smell insulin on her fur but didn’t appear wet. I then used water with the same syringe and practiced inserting into rice sock.

Will it be evident to me today with Cali’s numbers if some insulin escaped?
I switched back to Walmart needles Relion this am. They are stiffer but doesn’t give me concern for insulin administration.

PS. I used care point needles in 2020 and was not aware of issue with those. But I was sooo new at process and BG numbers so high that I was not aware of any incident. Likewise I have not aware of other’s concern. I will continue practicing with colored water with these needles. It could be inadvertently operator error.

Here’s hoping for a smooth day and great weekend for all sugar kitties and their guardians.
Kiss that Bandit for me. I love seeing that little face in her avatar of my posts.

Does this drop from AMPS [225] represent 1] onset and 2] probably NOT a fur shot at last night’s PMPS?

@+8 [176] fed 1tspLC& bits of Costco chicken

so saddened to learn of lily & sally. We can relate and feel their emotional pain. Impossible to know what is lurking inside their little bodies and such a shock when unsuspected such as a liver infection takes them down so fast. Even when diabetes is managed, the harm it can indirectly do to some many organs and critical systems is devastating and pervasive.
We can love them dearly and know their quality of life is enhanced and extended with our care. :bighug:

my chubby Calgirl. Dad and I love you to pieces and will forego sleep to keep you safe. :cat:

Better keep an eye ion her weight! All those snacks day and night! :p
Bhooma you are too funny! Keep an eye on her weight…but feed +2, feed before bed… and +5test [where she gets fed] so she doesn’t dive without food.
Cali does watch her weight. The last picture I posted [with two socks outside looking in] was Cali watching her weight on her scales. She weighs herself, then sits and looks at you. Her way of getting an “atta girl” AND asking for food.
Seriously though I do monitor her weight and food intake. She definitely is stout. She has become more active since on the Levemir [without all those crazy dives and spikes on Lantus].

How about you tale a break from tests tonight and go straight for a +5? Feed at +2 and again before bed though. So she doesn't dive without food.
