Yesterday's thread

AMPS is 375. Gave 1 unit about 15minutes earlier than yesterday's pm time.

These ReliOn syringes are so tiny. They have half unit markings but I don't know how I'm going to give a 1.25u without a magnifying glass or something. :) I don't have the money for the calipers yet. Though it's not a bad price for them so I should be able to get it soon.

I'm flicking the syringe like in the video to get the air bubbles out, but what do you do with the stubborn air bubbles?

How often should I test today? Every few hours again?

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375 Testing schedule today?

+2 is 359.

I didn't see any responses so I'm trying for different testing times. Like +2, +5, and hopefully I can get a +8. Hopefully this is ok.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359 Testing schedule today?

if you can get a +4 and +6, and keep your subject line and SS Updated for now?

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359 Testing schedule today?

yup. if you've heard about "curve": a test every 2 hours for one cycle (6 tests total)
is exactly what that is. so you would get an AMPS (or PMPS, deciding on which cycle you would rather use) then +2, +4, +6, +8. +10 and +12 (or PMPS, AMPS depending on which cycle you use). A lot of vets do this and it is really something you can easily do yourself AND save $$ AND it is more accurate because you're doing it at home vs. leaving your cat at the vet all day where he'd be stressed out and more than likely showing higher numbers due to the stress.

Are you comfortably doing that? If not, can you just get a +6 for now? A curve can be done at anytime...

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359 Testing schedule today?

I looked at Cain's SS again and saw that lovely yellow 232 at yesterday's AMPS. The pink and red numbers following the 232 are more than likely a bounce...maybe...and a bounce can take up to 72 hours to clear.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359 Testing schedule today?

Well I need to do a curve sometime right? :) Gives y'all data on how he's using the insulin. I'll try that today. Might as well use this cycle since I got a +2 already. And I don't need to interrupt my sleep any more than I have been lately. Still fighting off this cold. (Well unless Cain does an unexpected drop and then I'm quite willing to set my alarm to get tests.)

I need to head into town real quick before Petsmart closes but I should be back in time for a +4. I'm happy that he's heading down after a shot again.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359 Testing schedule today?

Sorry to just see this but, no, you don't need to do a curve really. We find spot checks to be more helpful. Since you're sick, I would probably just recommend a +5 and then go from there. If he's coming down, you might want a +9. If he's flat or going up, a +11.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359 Testing schedule today?

Oh ok. Those times are good. I'm sure Cain would like the reduced poking of his ears. I think I'm getting better at it, but I still hit a vein every so often. I just have to figure out how to get that PMPS test without him being all annoyed at me not feeding him. If y'all like me to do a curve one day, just let me know.

And that ninja. While I was replying to this he went to the litter box. I didn't notice till I heard scratching at the litter box. I've been trying to get another ketone test and he's been stealthy lately in litter box usage. It's like he knows.

Thank you, Marje & Kat, for helping today. :)

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359

Thank you. :) I hope this cold goes away soon. I cough so much when I get colds. And coughing fits. Never fun.

I bought a new catnip mouse from Petsmart yesterday. Hopefully one day Cain will start playing with it soon. My other cat, Brownie, had it between her front legs while dozing off. She woke up suddenly when it shifted as she moved, freaked out, and jumped like two feet in the air. She's a bit skittish sometimes. I was amused after I figured out what scared her. She still plays with it too.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380

+5 is 380. I think he ate a little over a 1/4 can of fancy feast thirty minutes before this test.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380

Hope you feel better soon Jennifer. Colds are no fun, especially as the weather is getting warmer and we want to be outside all the time. Take care of yourself and get better quickly. Pamper yourself as much as possible.

Wow! Those numbers are pretty flat.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380; +11 is 337

+11 is 337.

Still another one in the 300s. So that's better than 400s I guess. Cain's all looking for food now since it's late, the food bowl is up, and I just tested him. :) Gave him treats to keep him distracted while testing.

Oh! I managed to get a ketone test in and it's negative. Finally caught him in the litter box.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380

Super. It's good to stay on top of the ketone tests when he's high.

Sending get well wishes.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380; PMPS 345

PMPS is 345. All 300s today. This is a flat curve huh?

The dose might be shy of 1 unit. The stopper moved more than I liked. I tried hard to move it slowly and it moved more than I wanted. So it might be a skinny? 1 unit. Which he probably doesn't need at the moment.

I should be able to get a bedtime test.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380

I suggest when you give a fur shot, you mark it as "fur shot" and if you think you shot too little, mark it " sk1 ".

If he doesn't do something tomorrow, it might be time for an increase.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380; PMPS 345; +2 428

PM +2 is 428. :(

He's rising again. Let me know if you want me to get another test this cycle. I'll set my alarm if I need to. I'll be heading to bed in a bit.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380; PMPS 345; +2 428

He is rising, but that could be from the food spike. If you could set your alarm and get another +6 test, then we have more data to answer whether he needs a dose crease. Thanks.

Re: 4/21 Cain AMPS 375; +2 359; +5 380; PMPS 345; +2 428; +7

PM +7 286

I did have the alarm set for +6. Too bad I turned it off. Luckily I woke up not too far later to get a +7 at least.
