Well I just did a plus six reading and his levels have risen to 450. I gave him his normal morning meal, .75 units and he has had nothing else to eat. I don't get it. Usually at this time it is lower. I will have a sitter test in a few hours.
 
His levels were at 460 at plus 10. Is there something wrong with the insulin pen. Should I keep him on .75 units or raise it? Any advice?
 
Hi there,

If Georgie were mine, I'd keep his dose the same for another day. Levemir would take a few days to change his numbers.

Could be something bothered him and raised his sugar levels today, and tomorrow he'll drop back down.

Thanks for responding Claudia. I can't think of anything that could be out of the normal. We snuggled for a few hours and I left for work. It just doesn't seem to make sense that the past few days his levels have been consistently high throughout the day. The only thing that has changed is that I have started using a new pen. I need to collect more data. Boy I wish I had a day off soon to do a curve!!!!
 
how old is the pen? It may be losing effectiveness.

How is Georgie otherwise? Peeing? eating? Hollering for food? Drinking? if you touch his face, does he wince or pull back ? (checking for dental issues here). Is he pooping?


Are you really using the pen to administer the insulin? not a syringe?
 
He seems fine loves, to be petted. He seems in better spirits that normal actually. I am using a syringe and not the pen needles (I haven't used those in a while). I just opened the pen three days ago. I will double check the expiration date but I think it is okay. I think I am overreacting. I will monitor tonight.
 
I was racking my brain and remembered that yesterday when I pulled the needle out of his back it was bent. I didn't dare risk re dosing him. That could be the culprit!
 
The expiration of my pen says 8/2014. Would that make a difference? The expiration of my last pen is 2016.
 
I have about 60 left in my last pen. Should I continue using that one or keep using the one I just opened?
