Willie is peachy keen this morning. already headed bts next to me! looks like life is shaping up on .75 much like life on 1.0... green pm #s, morning blues in the 120s. we'll take it! now to get him back to raw...

ok, time for cuddles before heading to tbp!

Well, the PM number was unexpected... especially shooting 15 minutes or so late! Will be home all night to monitor. Looks like tonight is poke city!!

I am noticing that Willie is eating less during the day when I'm gone. He is very enthusiastic when I put down food, but doesn't seem to partake much once I''ve left for tbp. He also tends to eat much less than the recommended amount for his weight. For example, yesterday was Blue Wilderness day. Recommended feeding is 2 cans per 6-8 lbs. of body weight. Willie is in the range of 12-14 lbs (if I were guessing... he appears to have gained weight since his last weigh in at under 13lbs), but he only ate maybe 1 3/4 cans yesterday. Today is BG Turkey day (not his favorite). He ate about 1/3 of a can this morning, but appeared to have barely touched his food while I was gone, and he ate some tonight when I mixed the food with SK pouch gravy but not a crazy amount. He is on a supplement that supposedly improves the digestability of his foods (not that I necessarily buy that claim at all), and I am liberal with the poke treats. He has displayed a ton of energy and a very happy disposition as of late, so he has no outward appearance of anything being wrong. Just not sure if I should be worried.

Hi, Christie.. looking great!! When in lower #s they do eat less.. I guess I would say.. is this different than normal for him, if so.. then may look for more meaning behind it, other than the obvious of healthy #s/less appetite. Baby & Sadi do NOT eat when I am gone. Period. Ever. Ever. Ever. cat(2)_steam
Plus, they refuse to eat most foods & it is always a hourly struggle around here & nothing new, always frusturated cat(2)_steam
Anyway....... LOOKING GREAT!!

Thanks, Nicole! He's been an intermittent big eater... he used to be a scarfer, but now he's pretty restrained. On the raw food, he eats significantly less, but I had never really paid attention to how much canned he eats. It occurred to me yesterday that maybe I should pay attention, as I didn't want to be overfeeding him. It's not so much anything has changed...just more that I'm actually paying more attention!

Well good luck with the fuds... I wish, again, that Mannie was more like that - I jokingly call him Mr Hoover since he will eat anything he can find. The boy does like his fuds!

That video is just way too cute. My 16 year old civvie, Mario, still loves that game. I love it when they pounce across the bed to victory.

:thumbup Nice Hooting! Have you figured out how many calories a day Willie should be eating? That's more accurate than volume and it differs depending o the food. I've found that most mfg. feeding guidelines recommend more that the cats really should be eating.

I've been wanting to ask too, your signature says custom raw food,is it the recipe from Dr.Lisa's site or did you do a consult with her?

as per the food...all i can say is that if it is not the norm for him then keep an eye on him...also if it were me i would weigh him daily to keep an eye on his weight....

Thanks for the suggestion, Ann... I''ll look more carefully into his calorie needs and intake!

His raw diet is a custom one.... he had some many issues going on at the time (included a suspected food allergy to poultry), and my dad gave me 50lbs of venison to work with, but I wanted to make sure he was getting all he needed. I am so thankful I did as Dr. Lisa gave us so much more than just a recipe... she gave her time and analysis of his whole situation. I had such a positive experience that I paid to consult with her in February after we got updated lab work... it means so much to have someone on Willie's team whose sole job is to go over everything and explain it all to me in as great of detail as I need. I feel like it has made me a MUCH stronger advocate for Willie's care.

2 cans per 6 - 8 lbs is a huge amount of food depending on what the calories are. Dr. Lisa uses this formula to calculate calories per day:

Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70​
To maintain his 13 lbs, Willie would get 247 calories per day. The Blue Wilderness chicken and turkey are 132 cal. per can. (Salmon is 115 and duck is 111 calories.) The cat food company would have you feed Willie about 4 cans or 528 calories per day. No wonder he would gain weight. That's easily twice as many calories (or cans) as Dr. Lisa's formula would recommend.

Thank you so much, Sienne!! I've been digging around on Dr. LIsa's site, but couldn't find that info. Looks like on his own, he's getting in an appropriate amount of food. I haven't weighed him yet because I'm not sure if I can rig up the food scale to work for him... and I don't want to weigh myself!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Grammy's Pot Pie it is! Can't believe we've earned another dosecrease in only 5 cycles. Thoughts on whether I should take the full .25 again, or should I just skinny the dose?

I'm used to staying up late, Beth. :) And I'm strictly decaf, unfortunately... but will be hitting the coffee shop/juice bar tomorrow, though... fresh juice with lots of ginger gets me going in the morning!

see how the rest of the cycle goes. if you have to fight to keep willie's numbers up i would take a reduction of 0.25 unit.
if he bumps up easily, go with a shave. :-D

good info from sienne. the pet food companies would love to sell twice as much pet food as kitty needs!

Did you find those coupons for patience pants cause I'm thinking if she doesn't clear the bounce tonight, I'm schucking these and putting on my NDW patience pants. :lol: :lol:

Thanks to everyone else for stopping by as well! Plus 4 is looking good... healthy rise but not crazy fast, so we're giving another round of GPP and we'll see where he's at in another hour.
