Member Since 2012
Pumbaa woke me up at 5 am, purring in my ear and kneading my hair. He hasn't done this in weeks!

Normally (as in pre-FD), I would have gotten up, and started the day, including feeding the animals. That is one thing that is hard on me right now...scheduling my life around the 12-hour shots, and the lack of flexibility.

Frequently, during the early summer here in Arizona (when the overnight low isn't 90F), I'll get up at 4 a.m. so that I can open doors and windows for a bit and air the house out, as well as get outside to do any necessary yardwork at 5 a.m. before the heat gets too intense.

The cats (and drooler) expect to get fed when I get up. I don't want to change the testing/feeding/injection time to 4:30 a.m. because I don't want to HAVE to get up every morning at 4 a.m. At the same time, I want to stay on a tight schedule while I try to get Pumbaa regulated.

I guess I'll have to figure out how to train my animals that they don't get fed immediately just because I got out of bed in the morning.

Re: 4/20 Pumbaa AMPS/316

Oh how I know that one..as the weather gets warmer here the DH's work schedule changes to earlier and earlier so while right now we roll out of bed at 6:30am here pretty soon it will change to 5:30am and eventually 4:30am....The Fur Gang expects to be feed the moment they see the whites of mom's eyes. The first few weeks of the time changes has them screaming that they are being starved and that mom has obviously forgotten how to read a freaking clock!!! But they will survive and get over it in time..lol..they will never be happy about it, but they do quit pouting and falling on the ground faint with hunger.

Re: 4/20 Pumbaa AMPS/316

I can relate to the 'need' for food before shot times; Oliver had a late nadir, so I always tried to get a +11 before ps so that I would know if he was dropping or rising. I just used chicken as a small snack at those times. I had raw cut in chunks in the frig for Oliver, lightly steamed for Shadoe, and there was always the FD chicken.
So long as you give them something, and let them know that's it, they may be OK.

It's good to hear that your old Pumbaa is coming back now. Those are the signs that let us know the 12/12 routine is well worth it.

Re: 4/20 Pumbaa AMPS/316

Gayle, thank you. Yes, I was very, very happy to have Pumbaa wake me up like that. He was purring louder than I've ever heard him purr before! It was too early, but wonderful just the same!

I tested Pumbaa about 15 minutes early this morning, just to get the show on the road, and both he and Larry got some sardines as a pre-breakfast snack to tide them over until feeding/injecting time. That seemed to satisfy them both.

And they have been eating the food I leave out overnight for them, which tells me that my little grazers are hungry at night.

Re: 4/20 Pumbaa AMPS/316

Great to hear they have a good snack when it's early and are also eating overnite...
as for too early, it's never too early for our happy cats.
Happy feels so good; you know you are on the right track.

Haven't seen any blues today, but I am liking the lower yellow numbers, especially after that bounce yesterday. Maybe 1.25U will be the ideal dose for Pumbaa once he has a few more days to have this settle in. I'm hoping he still tests in the yellow for his PMPS...wouldn't that be nice?

YIKES! nailbite_smile

Pumbaa's PMPS was 575! I only tested him at 4-hour increments today to give him a break, and he was in the low 200's both times. Also, Mr. Wiggle Butt wiggled when I was trying to draw the blood onto the first test strip and it was ruined. I put a new test strip in and got more blood from the same pricked spot on his ear. Could that have caused a problem? He was way too impatient for his food so there was no sense in running the test again. I'll test him at +1 and see what we have.

Pumbaa, black?? seriously?? come on now...that's like so high that we can barely see you anymore! You're like a dot in the sky up there. Come on down now....

Re: 4/20 Pumbaa AMPS/316 +4/200 +8/229 PMPS/575

Lil: I know! That's TWO black readings since I upped his dose from 1.0U to 1.25U.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do a 2-hour curve on him tomorrow. I had started last Sunday but his number didn't look good after the first two post-injection tests, so I gave up.

He had good yellow numbers today, so maybe this was a bounce from that? I know that there are no carbs around that he could have gotten into. If Beck (the drooler) doesn't eat all of her kibble in the morning and evening, I put her bowl of food in the oven to protect it from being eaten by the kitties.

I was so hoping for a good PMPS number tonight. :(

+1 = 509. At least he's coming down.

PUMBAA!!! Now what the heck are you doing on the BLACK FLOOR!!! Now you see here Mister! Get you butt back down to at least the yellow floor pronto! Even Musette who is the Queen of the bounce doesn't go all the way to the BLACK floor. Plus she thinks you are very handsome and would love you to come down here to the blue floor to keep her company. Especially now that Kit had to and get himself all OTJ on her.

Thank you, Julie and Mel.

Here's hoping for a much better +4 reading in 30 minutes. *sigh*

I felt better seeing that his +4 went down to 388, but those were awfully high numbers yesterday.
