Georgia and Simon (GA)

Another pink morning! Last night, Simon was a beautiful green so I can't complain too much about today's number. I'm hoping for better numbers again later today.

OT: We have a kitty that has been visiting us over the last few weeks. He is obviously not a feral cat because he is very friendly and lets me pet him and pick him up. He stays at my house for most of the day and then goes away at night and is not there first thing in the morning. I assume he must go back to the house he came from at night. Of course I am feeding him because he always seems so hungry and looks like he might only be about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. I don't think he belongs to any neighbor right next to me.

Here is my question. He has quite the balls on him so I know he is not neutered. There is a clinic near me that will neuter him for $40. Should I bring him to the clinic even though I don't know if he belongs to someone else? I just don't want him contributing to countless unwanted litters of kittens in the neighborhood. He has no ID on him. I'm thinking of taking his picture and enlarging it and posting it near the front entrance of my neighborhood with the caption, "Does anyone know who I belong to?". What do y'all think?

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 Question about neutering a neighbor's

Yuck on the stinky pink but Tarragon is right there with ya today Simon.

That is a predicament. I would say that posting a pic would be a great idea. Poor thing. You definitely don't need him adding to the kitty population though. If it were me, I would see if anyone claims him first. I don't suppose he has a chip.

Have a great day Georgia!

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 Question about neutering a neighbor's

I like Melissa's suggestion. If anyone claims him, that would be great. If not, it sounds like he likes your house!!

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 Question about neutering a neighbor's

Melissa and Sienne, thanks for your posts. I really am hoping he belongs to someone and they are just ignorant about overpopulating the kitten population. I'll get him scanned for a chip although I doubt someone would microchip and not neuter. But you never know -- some guys are so strange about neutering a cat!

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 Question about neutering a neighbor's

Morning... ~O)
I assume he doesn't have a collar.... put one on him and staple a note to it. Do I have a home? Put your phone number on it. or Who feeds me?
See what happens.
I had a hungry cat show up and fed him for a year before we caught him, found out he had been neutered so he belonged to someone once but he was never claimed.
He really needs a home but I don't want to take him to the shelter because he'll just wind up in another neighborhood he won't know and have to deal with coyotes.
He needs a barn away from coyote territory. He's a terrific mouser.

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 Question about neutering a neighbor's

Hi guys .. sorry on the pink amps but yay for green last night! Hmmm .. tough call on the kitty .. I guess I'd make up some fliers and see if anyone claims them .. if not, it sounds like a vetty visit is in order! have a great day guys!

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 Question about neutering a neighbor's

Hi Georgia,

It looks like this little guy might be looking for a new home and may have found one! It is, unfortunately, not uncommon for people to toss their pets away when they move. I hope that all will work out for you and for this friendly kitty. Would you consider keeping him if you can't find his people?

Have a fine day, and Simon, you can come down a floor or two now, OK?

Hugs & scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 Question about neutering a neighbor's

Some great ideas on what to do about the black kitty hanging out in my backyard -- I have already been calling him Cole.

Rhiannon, I like the idea of putting a collar on him with a note.

Ella, not sure what to do about him. I have been thinking about adopting another cat but have already almost made my mind up about another cat at the no-kill shelter near me. Of course, I used to have 4 cats at one time, so maybe a 3rd wouldn't be out of the question. Need to figure things out.

Nice slow slide, isn't that a good idea, Simon? This bounce doesn't need to last long. My dad always said that once you feed a cat, you'll never get it to leave. :-D Cole is a smart guy, going to your house, Georgia. Good luck on figuring out his situation. Have a great day!

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 + 4.5 295

Hi Georgia, you've got a lot of good suggestions. I also like the idea of placing a sign first to see if he does belong to someone. Another thought with the no collar is I wonder if kitty has a microchip. This is how I got Maggie as a second kitty when I had Mikey (GA). I knew she didn't have a home though as she lived in the apartments below me and was part of a feral pack.
I'll be watching for updates. Very lucky kitty to have you watching out for him.
Looks like Simon is coming down, more Simon. Have a nice day, Georgia.

Re: 4/2 Simon AMPS 314 + 4.5 295

It sounds like Cole is liking your house, even if he has a "home" elsewhere. People are funny (not in the good way!) about neutering, etc. Trixie's previous owners, our former neighbors, abandoned her....long story. But, one of the ridiculous things they did to her was declaw her (I am SO anti-declaw), but they didn't bother spaying her! Crazy. Fortunately, she didn't "hook up" with anyone during the time between their abandonment and us finally getting hold of her...

I hope Simon continued his way down for you today!! Good luck with figuring out the Cole situation!

Wow -- Mr. Simon sure has dropped tonight. The one constant thing with Simon is that he is not predictable.

Ann, I can't imagine Maggie as a feral cat. She is so lucky to have you.

Amy, isn't it crazy what people will do? Declawing Trixie but not spaying her -- ridiculous!!

Re: 4/2 Simon PMPS 245 +4 69

Simon looks great in  !

I think it won't take Cole much to worm his way in there  when we lived in Germany, this unneutered male cst....very friendly....kept hanging around our house. It was winter and cold so I put out a warm bed, food, etc. but he got a URI so I took him to our vet where his URI got fixed....and so did he. While he was at the vet, a German lady came to the door asking if we had seen"Bobby" who coincidentally fit the description of our little friend. She wasn't happy when I told her I had him whacked
