Good afternoon,

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=116492&p=1224093#p1224093

Rocky's BG saw a lot of blue numbers in the very early morning hours again. This is making me quiet sleepy during the day as I am afraid to go to bed at night for fear that his BG will do a deep dive with this much insulin. Especially when his BG went to 100 at 3am. @-)

I mean, when we started with the insulin Rocky was doing those deep dives into green fields on way less insulin. I pray that he is healing and not getting worse.

I don't want to go to bed and set my alarm clock for every hour in those late night hours because my husband gets up at 4am to get ready for work. I don't want to keep waking up DH at every hour because my alarm clock keeps going off. So, that means that I either sit in my office chair and fall half asleep there, or, I'm half-awake and half-asleep in front of the TV, with one eye constantly on the clock.

Julie, *maybe* Rocky would have touched a green number at 4am last night if I had not fed him 1/8 can of a 2% carb food at 3am when his BG went to 100??

Just eyeballing it, 1/8 can looks to be about only (1)TSP of food. Do you think those higher numbers were food induced? :? That was also after I had fed him the 2% carb food for his PMPS +3 feeding. In other words, his BG continued to drop even after I had fed him a 1/4 can of 2% carb food three hours earlier.

Rocky usually gets zero carb food at his PMPS +3 feeding but I only had one can of this food remaining and I wanted to feed that to him in the morning when I thought his BG was likely to shoot up to the 300s again. :YMSIGH:

This morning I fed Rocky 1/4 can of his zero carb food at AMPS and at AMPS +1 I fed him 1/8 can of the 2% food. For the AMPS +2 and +3 I fed him the zero carb food again.

Rocky recap for yesterday:
AMPS 284 +2 340 +6 291 +8 292
PMPS 277 +2 199 +4 111 +6 100 +7 140

One interesting thing I noticed is that Rocky seems to get very hungry when he gets into the blues. He cries for food.

Re: 4/2 Rocky AMPS 251 +2 262 +5 204

Most of our kitties will go looking for food when their BG drops. When we first started this dance, that was one of my best clues to China going low since she's never been a big eater.

It's just like a human diabetic...when their BG is low, they go looking for a Coke and a candy bar!

It's good that Rocky gets hungry since the first thing we want to do is feed them when they're low

Do you have a cell phone Tina? That might be something you can use as an alarm that might work for waking you (but not DH) in those wee hours. I'm sure sleeping in the office chair isn't very restful for your body, and you need to take care of you too!

Hope you find something that will work so you can get some sleep!

Hi Chris,

The phone alarm sounds like a good idea except for that I would be getting in and out of bed, possibly waking up DH, so that's not going to fly. He would get P.O'd very fast...

To everyone who helped me with the question about the calipers-- THANK YOU! I'm sorry I am not responding individually. I wish that things could slow down just a little..

it's normal to have to go up and down in dose. i have no idea why he's needing more now than he did before, but i don't think i'd worry too much about it. do you think the ringworm is resolved?

has he gained weight recently?

i don't know that the difference between no carbs and 2% carbs is enough to make a difference. it wouldn't have in my cat, that's for certain. i don't know about Rocky. i've mentioned before that we've found that some cats do better on some carbs than on a zero carb diet.

we stay up til 11:30pm every night, so that was +4.5 on punkin time. I got a +3 every night and most nights a +4.5, and i looked at the speed of his drop then. i knew he almost always nadired about +5.5, so i figured IF he kept up that same rate of drop, would he be in danger by +6? that was what determined if I was going to stay up later. I probably only did that once every few weeks. when i needed to stay up, i slept on the sofa with the lights on and used my cell phone alarm, then when he was past his nadir, i went to bed. it's on punkin's ss if you want to look.

anyway, if i thought he wasn't in danger, i went to bed - giving me 7 hrs of sleep most nights, enough to feel human with. in the morning he was always still alive. you've got to sleep.

leaving low carb canned food out is good insurance if you are worried.

Hi Tina,

It looks like Rocky's been seeing quite a few blues lately. That's great. It's interesting that you mentioned the hunger issue. I just discussed that in another post I made today. Jersey used to be ravenous when she was in the pinks. When we first started getting her into the blues and greens, she was also ravenous. The first few times she dropped into the 70s, I thought she was going to rip the can of food out of my hand as I was opening it! In the past few days, though, I've noticed that she hasn't been wanting to eat as much when she drops lower. I've been really worried about that - "Oh my gosh, what's wrong with my cat?!" I really think it's simply that she's getting used to those lower numbers now and doesn't panic as much when she hits them. She's still eating plenty of food, but she seems to be handling the lows much better.

Of course, you know I'm a newbie, so take my personal experience for what it's worth!

Hope you can get some good sleep tonight!
Shelly

Looks like if I don't get to bed early and get some good sleep tonight it will be my own fault.

561!!! :o **fainted.**

Well I was on my way to bed and now i don't know what I'm doing. CRAP. This is a huge fluctuation in numbers. I'm not sure it's safe to go to bed now. :YMSIGH:
