Maximillian's Person

I don't know if anyone here saw yesterday's hypo on the Lev board (I was advised to post here instead for Maxie)... We got down to 14 on .25U. So, this morning he is refusing food, still drinking water, but is running from me today. I don't blame him. I tested him 30 or so times yesterday. Near the end of testing, I was having trouble getting blood. I felt/feel awful for what I did to his poor ears. (I know it was a necessary hurt, but guilt is a bitter pill and irrational.)

Hi guys .. No, I didn't see the post yesterday .. how scary that must have been! And for a skipped shot, this morning's number is pretty nice looking .. I'm sorry that maximillian is running from you .. but he will come around .. are you giving him treats for each poke? And warming his ears if needed?

Treats are offered. He pretty much is just ignoring me and them. I do warm his ears. Just that many tests yesterday and his ears have to be sore and bruised this morning.

Welcome, Donna.

You had one heckuva day yesterday. Here's the link to the thread on the Lev board: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=67684.

Maxie will forgive you. There's a good chance you're going to see some insulin sensitivity when you next shoot. I think I'd have been a bit gun shy this morning. Do you have any baby food on hand? That might be easy on Maxie's stomach and something he'd be willing to eat.

welcome donna! i just read your condo from yesterday - wow.

the flip side for you to consider as you feel badly for poking him - you saved his life yesterday. so pat yourself on the back and know you did absolutely everything right. well done.

glad you skipped this morning. if yesterday shocked his pancreas into action, you may be in an entirely different type of "game" with him now. 113 isn't much of a bounce from a 14.

does he appear sick at all? i'm wondering why he's refusing to eat - or is that somewhat normal for him?

Thank you, Julie. I know I did for him what I had to do. He bounced to nearly 200 last night at +13, but I decided we both needed a break. I had a migraine headache all day while all that was going on and badly needed to take my own meds and sleep. I am hoping that he'll hold his own in the low 100s and lower.

Ugh...

it's interesting that maxie came down to 113 this morning. that's good!

in your thread on the lev forum you mentioned the possibility of pancreatitis. is there any chance you're able to get him in to see the vet who gave you a prescription for the insulin DCIN sent you?

in any case, have you had a chance to read through jojo's CP post: CHRONIC PANCREATITIS (or does my cat have a pepcid deficiency?)?
there's lots of good info in there including how to help kitties through a CP flare.

hope you were able to get some rest last night...

Donna,

I'm glad to see you are ok today. Tired, I'm sure. Great work last night, seriously. Maxie will forgive you for all the pokies. ;-)

Pretty cool that he came down so far by himself this morning. It will be interesting to see where he goes next.

Donna:

Glad you hopped over here today.....that was quite a day and I admire your calm attitude and knowing just what to do....and with a migraine.

Nice AMPS this morning!!
