Good Morning Gobble woke up in his usual kissy mood. He ate a little more than yesterday (2 T. CSFKLS) @AM+0 and then a few nibs of Evo. I bought him a bag of Nature's Variety Raw Chicken Bites yesterday and he really doesn't like it. He had diarrhea at 7 a.m. today; 30 hours since his last pile--while I know it is still diarrhea, it is a major improvement as yesterday, there was 18 hours between the piles and the previous few days he was going 12 hours apart. Today is Day 5 of Tylan & Day 4 of Pearls. Tomorrow he has a vet appointment & will get labwork done; I'm not sure what kind yet though. He had labwork back on 3/13/13 (values on SS).

Q. Any suggested labwork?

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 ? labs ?

Hi Kat,

Sending lots of poopie-firming vines, anti-slider vines and explosion quelling vines. Gobbles, you need to pucker up!

No advice on the labs but I'm glad Gobby is taking the Pearls. So exciting that the raffle is going so well - good job!

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 ? labs ?

How sweet with the morning kisses. No great ideas from us. Tarragon had diarrhea a lot when we first switched to wet food 2 years ago and we found out he has IBD. He is on metronidazole daily for it and we haven't had any issues since. I hope they figure out what is going on with Gobbles. Have a great day!

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 ? labs ?

I would want to get a GI panel (T4, folate, B12/cobalamin, and spec fPLI if this one hasn't been done -- it's a pancreatitis test) in addition to the usual labs. You might also ask the vet whether he wants to do a fecal culture to rule out any parasites. Make sure you find out how fresh the sample needs to be.

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 ? labs ?

Morning Kat! Sending good vetty vines for Gobby.....Hope he resolves his lb issues :-D Have a great day!!!! Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon OH......And Belated-Happy Birthday to Gobby party_cat

Is he still on the metronidazole? Gobby was on that for five days (prescribed from ER vet) and then his vet changed him to Tylan...

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 ? labs ?

Hi guys and happy belated birthday to gobbles! I hope the diarrhea is coming to an end soon for you guys .. I know that can't be pleasant for either one of you .. Great job on raising all this morning for the board, it's awesome to have gone past your goal! Have a great day guys!

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 ? labs ? ear infection ?

I suspect an ear infection: he has been digging at his ears for at least 2 months. There is black gunk in them. Two months ago I was told it was not an infection. Wendy brought this to my attention. For the past few days, I've been flushing his ears: it took me at least 15 Q-tips the other day to get the gunk out.

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 ? labs ? ear infection ?

Well, the dilemma now is that since you cleaned Gobby's ears, the vet can't look at the "gunk" under a microscope to figure out what it is. Cat's can get a bacterial infection as well as a yeast infection in their ears. If it's an infection, just cleaning out the ears won't get rid of it.

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 ? labs ? ear infection ?

Hi Kat. Sorry I can't add any advice on lab request. Sounds like there was a lot of gunk in Gobbles ear if it took 15 Q-tips to clear it out. We'll keep our fingers crossed that his vet visit tomorrow will give some answers to what is causing that and the diarrhea as well as a plan of attack to treat them.

Have a great day Kat and congrats on the new total with the raffle.

Yes, he will be able to get some gunk out of his ears because I did not clean them yesterday and I just checked with a flashlight and there is still some in there....I realize that cleaning it out won't heal it; I told the vet 2 months ago I thought he had an infection or something going on in his ears (but not earmites) and he said his ears "looked fine". I would think the vet doesn't need a hole lot of "gunk" to look at it under a microscope.

Thanks Sienne; I noted the GI panel tests you suggested on the list I am bringing with me to the vet's office tommorow. He had the spec test when he was in ER the Sunday before last. He had a BM this a.m.--I will get a sample from there, in case he doesn't have another BM before the vet visit tomorrow; I know it may not be fresh enough, but if he doesn't poo between now & then, I'm SOL....

Yes, fingers (& paws crossed). His diarrhea is not as bad as it was. He is just picking at his food--this bothers me; I have resorted to feeding him MC, which he basically licks the gravy off of...I'm surprised his bg isn't higher...

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 +7 239 ? eats steak--no cat

Well, Gobbles' appetite has diminished again (or so I thought)...vet appointment tomorrow at 3:30...he licked some gravy (probably 1 T.) off of 17% wet cat food. I pondered what I could get him to eat, other than wet food gravy, so I went up the road and got him a piece of top-notice filet mignon--and guess what....he ate a good-sized raw serving of it. Maybe he is just so freaking spoiled that he's holding off for the good stuff??? Any comments?

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 +7 239 ? doesn't want to eat

I am laughing so hard right now. How did he like the filet mignon? You know once you start something with a cat. I have a feral cat that won`t eat anything but canned cat food.

I hope Gobbles will start eating his usual food for you soon. Good luck at the vet tomorrow.

Ummmm...he LOVED it!!! Lucky he did, the little bugger; it's $18.99/lb.!!! Well at least I know he's getting nourishment; as for the can of 17% wet food I cracked open--I already gave it to the drooler here; so she made out as well. I just hope I didn't open a can of worms with My Gobby--however, there are cheaper cuts of meat (but knowing him, he'd want the primo steak)...

Thanks so much  Me, too. I don't mind giving him meat, but I know he needs cat food as well....

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 +7 239 ? doesn't want to eat

Kat,
Please tell me you saved a chunk of the filet for you and DH? I know I took up for you the other day and advised DH to get with the program.... but if Gobs is eating filet mignon, and you slap a burger in front of me? I'm going to be a bit miffed. Every man has his limits!

Gobby - eat your fud like you paid for it, dude. And as far as the other end? Stick a cork in it, pal. You're driving Mom bonkers! ;-)

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 +7 239 ? doesn't want to eat

Hmm. Nice on the tasty filet. Way to go Gobbles! Maybe you should have gotten the Nature's Variety raw beef or venison instead of chicken? Did you add a little warm water to it? My civie doesn't like his raw at fridge temps.

You should ask your vet whether they want the poop kept cool before you bring it in. I've heard before that it should be kept in the fridge if it's going to be a while, although I'm hoping you have a separate fridge for that sort of thing!

Well, hmmmmmm Carl..didn't really buy enough filet for everyone....did I mention he's geting/buying a boat? ? a boat is better than a piece of steak, right? (I'll bet you know a bit about boats; its a pretty sweet 2007 17.5' Triton DV176 Sport, 8' beam, 75 Merc + a kicker motor, gps/sonar, 2 fish finders, am/fm/cd player, ship-to-shore, bimini top w/sides, windows, nice cushy seats, great set up, lots of extras, 6 added pole holders, Minnkota iPilot 24 volt, blah blah blah), I did pick up a Delmonico steak for DH and actually got Gobbles 2 filets; he said I can have one of them.... I'm thinking the boat will outweigh the steak & vet visit tomorrow

Good idea on the NV raw--I didn't realize it came in beef or venison--Gobby goes nuts for venison; I'll get a bag of it next time I'm in town... I didn't try warm water. I'm going to go do that now and then offer it to him at his PM+0....The poop has been bagged; it is in the basement where its probably only about 65 degrees....putting it in the fridge would not phase me--the poop is in a ziploc; I could put the ziploc into an empty jar with a lid...right next to Gobbles' Filet

Re: 4/2 Gobbles AMPS 339 +3 303 +7 239 ? doesn't want to eat

If he gets tired of the filet, eventually you may have to add some lobster to it.

Good luck with the vet visit tomorrow. How is his weight doing?

Hmmmm....lobster; he'd probably want it flown in! He weighed 13 pounds even on 3/26 and 12 pounds, 12 ounces yesterday. This concerns me, of course...however, I am not at all surprised due to the lack of appetite and diarrhea...He was at the vet last on 3/13 and I'll have him weighed while I'm there tomorrow, and see what the difference is....Thanks for the "good luck" and asking about his weight, Dyana :-D

Sounds nice - freshwater I assume. What do you fish for? We're all salt water out here.

Yes, freshwater--freshwater lakes here in Ohio & PA, Lake Erie, Ohio River. We fish for everything!!! Right now it's crappie & blue gill season here. My favorite fish to catch are, of course, catfish (they DO meow). Pike and Musky are pretty fun to catch. We also fish for bass (large, small, striped, rock), walleye and perch. What do you fish for?

Re: 4/2 Gobbles PMPS 395

Kat, I know a thing or two about ear issues because Simon has had problems for years. It turns out he has lots of allergies and they get worse in the Spring and Fall. Do you think possibly Gobbles has allergies? Simon has lots of gunk in his ears and I have to clean them out regularly. When it gets bad, he gets an anti-histimine which seems to help with the itching.

We love bass! Sea bass is one of my favorites. We go for fluke (flounder), seabass, striped bass, blackfish and weakfish. My husband goes offshore with buddies for tuna and swordfish. I'd love to go but it's often 90 miles out and a gut-puking trip for those of us with less-than-perfect digestive systems, and you're pretty much awake for 2 days in a row. But ohhhhh first tuna!!!!!!

I used to catch and eat catfish as a kid in Ohio. Yup. Nice to meet another fisher.

Sounds like the gunky ear is not too uncommon! It could be allergies, Georgia; he is allergic to fleas so he could be allergic to something else (though he has no fleas--monthly Advantage). I just jotted re: allergies on my vet notes and will bring it up with Gobbles' vet today. Thank you for the information!!!

Indeed it is grand to meet people who love to fish!!! Sounds like some good fish to catch. And we are jealous of your husband!!! I went online to Hard Merchandise' website (Wicked Tuna) and Captain Dave also offers very reasonably priced fishing charters--we are seriously considering booking an excursion. FV-Tuna.com & Pinwheel also do charters, but I don't think I'd want to be out on a boat with any of them as they annoy me...LOL Lisa, did you grow up in Ohio???
