Hi Sharon14,
I'm off to the store to get FFeast with gravy for my Hypo Kit! After reading Tanya & Ducia's story I want to make sure i have everything i might need.
I appreciate your advice last night, about the syringe & gravy.

I like that Yellow AM PS today - my Ducia goes into 300s after NS.:)
And I like that he starts lower and you are home to test.

Thank you for the advice yesterday!

(First, don't worry about fur shots. We've all done them. The biggest thing you can do is test for ketones when you can, and get out of the house and do something for yourself. Ravan will be in safe numbers today. No need to test until PMPS time. We all need to learn when to hover, and when to relax. I think that's the hardest part about caring for a feline diabetic. I got to the point where I didn't need more than 5-6 tests a day, unless Neko was flirting with low numbers. You will eventually get to learn Ravan's patterns on insulin, which will really help you. Focus on learning his onset and nadir to start. But not today, he's given you a permission slip to get out.)

I like post with which I agree or to which I wanted to give a support, sort of like "yes, agree, Id do the same for my cat" but not good at digital etiquette - I started using PC and internet regularly only when Ducia got Dx.
I don't do facebook or any of it and often do not understand internet English - abbreviations,emoji and the rest.

Click HERE - good write up for the new members - there must be language as to how to use the site and defenetely tons of other useful info.

I do not think yo are obliged to reply.

You mentioned that you are off to shopping for M?HC foods - it would be great if you can get a box of urine testing strips at CVS, Walmart or any human pharma - to test for ketones.

I have them. I've been testing for Ketones for a few weeks. He was negative every time ,except yesterday morning. It looked like a slight trace. I gave him ringers in the afternoon yesterday. I'll check today when i get a chance.

What is the treatment for Ketones?

It's crazy but i can't seem to get out of the house
Now's it's almost time for his +2 check.

I'm not so good with the computer & don't go on Facebook either. I think I'm the only person in the US that doesn't have a cell phone! Oh well . I figure I lived without it for over 70 yrs Why do I need it now?

once you'll get the hang of how he reacts to a dose and food you've more time for yourself and more confidence leaving the house.
(the Hypo I talked about the other day frightened me so much that barely left house in 2017 - not until very late in the year.)
:D on testing for ketones - easy to do and it safes so much trouble!

Just tested Ravan bg 340 Kinda disappointed it went up so much. I'll stay with this dose for a week .Is that OK?

Check my post above about Ketones.

yes, please follow the SLGL guidlines - it says keep for 7 days, then run a curve and adjust as needed.
Please do not feel discouraged regarding that Pink number.
He'll get down eventually- the insulin depot needs some time to settle in before it can bring in results.

I hope that you'll post regularly and we can talk in a few days about his numbers - let's say that if it is high numbers only after 6 - 7 CYCLES/ or 3 - 4 days - perhaps by then you are confident enough to increase earlier than after a week. Let's see what that dose does for him.

I'll give Ravan & myself a little break & wait till evening to check again.

I was in the pet store buying FFeast Chicken Classic Pate. The woman there said it was too high in carbs for a Diabetic cat.She said she has Diabetes & has had cats with diabetes & I should not be feeding that!

All the different opinions can really make a person crazy!

I am wondering how I'll ever get him off FF & back to his Raw diet.

He's still eating good (Only FFeast!) He also now likes Trader Joes Chicken! Is that OK?
 
On the food chart, Trader Joe’s chicken and liver is 6 carbs and the chicken and rice is 12. What did the woman in the pet shop recommend?

FF makes a lot of different foods - some low carbs, diabetes friendly such FF Classic Pate,
some high like FF Gravy Lowers - 15-20% of carbs.
Perhaps she saw you holding the FF with gravy variety and that is why she wanted to warn you? All of the FF cans looks alike - one need to read the label carefully.

I think that I posted in previous posts that FF Gravy Lovers and FF Grilled are not for daily use but to keep it as part of the Hypo Tool Box and use only when you need to get your kitty B levels up quickly and thus prevent Hypo.
Did you also get any of the FF Gravy Lovers or Grilled?

Good to hear he is eating well! I never used Trader Joe's Chicken but on the food chart I use Trader Joe's Chicken with Turkey and Rice is 12% carbs. I attach below Food Chart that I and many others here use - any wet food below 10% carbs is acceptable. I feed Ducia Friskies or Soulistic 5% carbs daily but use FF Gravy Lovers when she drops.

I attach that chart below - you can either save to your computer or print out as I did. It was compiled by Dr. Pierson , a feline nutritionist and I know that most posters here use it when food shopping.

Hi Tanya and Ducia. I'm not happy with his bg 481 I was hoping for in the 300's I'll stick with his 1+ unit for a while longer.

Do you think it might be from the Trader Joes food,high carbs? I won't give that to him anymore. He didn't want the FFeast this afternoon. Which surprised me so I tried the other.

Sorry Tanya I got to go early . I'm feeling down. My son was supposed to come visit from Texas but when I told him about Ravan being sick he said he didn't want to argue with me with his kids running around so he's not coming.

I haven't seen them for nearly 2yrs. I was really looking forward to their visit. Talk to you tomorrow.

You are welcome. I had a cat that loved the high numbers. The way to keep me sane was to get sleep/do something for me. Cause eventually, those high numbers did come down. With Ravan in the 400's at +2 last night, I would have put away the test kit and caught up on sleep.

Every time you test for ketones, it's helpful to note the results on the SS. I noted it in the Remarks section. If you don't list it, people will keep asking. :)

Just wondering why you switched Ravan away from raw food to FF? I switched Neko to raw shortly after she was diagnosed and she did well on it. Several kitties here are fed raw.

Don't worry about the numbers today. Get some sleep. The fur shot/skip can impact several cycles after that as the depot builds again.

Ravan & his sister Peggy Sue stopped eating their raw meat diet about a year ago (before he was diagnosed with diabetes)

They both also had developed a runny nose. No sneezing or coughing or temp. just clear fluid running out of their nose. Also scratching their ears. I had them to the vet 2 times to check their ears , Vet said no infection.Even did blood work on both of them.

He thought maybe allergies. To What? Never found out. Ravan will eat a bit of liver & Peggy Sue only cooked chicken. If I put ANY supplement, anything on the meat they reject it. I gave Ravan Fancy feast because he had stopped eating. I was syringe feeding him.

They both get a syringe of vitamins & supplements once a day. And they both still have the runny noses!

Haven't changed anything. Use white vinegar to clean & rinse my clothes. I have no idea what they developed allergies to. It's winter in chicago They don't go out when it's cold. (It's upsetting to feed them FF after 15 yrs of raw meat. )

I'm trying to get them back on Raw but neither one will eat it!

I'll try to remember to post Ketones.

I'm having trouble editing the Title on the thread. When I try to move everything to the left I end up erasing it . How do put the new bg on at the end?

Any foreign protein, even in raw meat, can cause an immune response - ie., allergic response. Just because a food source has no additives doesn’t mean it’s hypoallergenic.

I understand that. But after 15 yrs I didn't expect it! Still not sure because Peggy Sue still eats chicken. Ravan still has a runny nose and refuses Raw meat.

Allergies can develop even after long term uneventful exposure to a protein. Something else may have happened that triggers a new allergy. For example, there's documentation that some cats have developed an allergy to some food ingredient after they've had a tick bite.

Not saying it was a tick bite - just an example of how something else can sensitize the immune system so it mounts a response to a previously tolerated protein that's totally unrelated to the inciting factor.
 
Kris I just started a new thread. I'm not sure i understand why I need to do that every day? Why can't i just continue with this one?

I'm having trouble adding the new bg into the title.When the edit space is full I don't know how to move it to the left to add bg ? ( not so good with computer stuff)
 
This is a large and very busy forum. Starting a new thread daily puts you up at the top to get attention. Also the thread won't get too long making it hard to find a bit of info. Putting a link to the previous day's thread in your first post of the day gives advisors an easy way to check back without wading through a long list of posts.
