? 4/19 Hugo - Vet Curve Opinions

Could some of our more experienced members take a look at the data we collected yesterday? The specialist wanted us to do a 24 hour curve on poor Hugo, and of course, the data is completely different from any other day we've collected info.

It's all in the spreadsheet, if you could take a look. His curve is going up in the middle rather than down. Does that mean he needs more insulin?

I think he’s bouncing still from the 75 the other day. I wouldn’t have done a curve until the bounce ended. Wait fir the bounce to end before making any dosing decision.

I agree totally with @tiffmaxee. Hugo is bouncing at the moment from the 75. You need to wait until the bounce clears.
If the specialist looked at the SS he wouldn’t need to see a curve...it is all already there.

It was very frustrating to convince him to look at the spreadsheet. He said he couldn't make any recommedations until he saw a full curve. That the "spot checks" I was doing didn't give him enough info.

If all the vet saw was the curve data, he'd probably want you to increase. But you know the current dose took Hugo down to 75, which is pretty low on the AT. Here we determine how to change the dose based on how low it takes the cat. As the others have said, curving during a bounce is a waste of strips. And more importantly, it doesn't look like you got much sleep yesterday either.

When I read what the specialist said I just shake my head in disbelief. Only being able to decipher a cats numbers by having them all in one row compared to a feast of numbers in a spreadsheet showing how Hugo reacts to the insulin in different cycles, just shows how little they know about FD.
Do you need his recommendations about dosing?

Oh boy.

I left my boyfriend to watch Hugo tonight as his blood sugar was lowering and now I'm a bit upset. He doesn't seem to understand Hypos.

Hugo tested at 62 at nadir, so he gave him low carb food and then tested him an hour later!? Then he was at 57 and he did the same!!?? Hugo's at 77 now, but I'm scared about what could've happened. I need to reiterate the rules.

As for the vet, we really took him in to see if there was anything underlying that might be causing his issues with the insulin.

Yes please explain the rules to your boyfriend.
Can’t see the latest BGs on the SS yet.
I’m glad he is coming up again now.
Hugo has earned a reduction in dose down to 1.75 units. Congratulations!

Thank goodness you didn’t increase as going under 68 earned a reduction to 1.75. I would have fed a little high carb food when he dropped to 62. Congrats on the reduction. Also with as much testing as you do a curve is not needed. When vets ask for a curve it’s because they don’t suggest their clients home test every day. Even then the curve is usually 12 hours and not 24.
