NDW ...

@Wendy&Neko When you have a minute, would you please let me know how much fish oil I should give Zoey? Her weight is 10.8 (she lost a pound with her new diet -- that's good news!). I also have another 17-year-old cat that I would like to give it to and she weighs 8 pounds; would you please let me know the dose for her, too? I'll start with fish oil for a week or two and then add some of the other supplements, one at a time, so if there's a reaction to anything, I'll know which one caused it. Seems with all of the additives and special preparation that goes into getting food ready that it takes me almost as long to fix the cat's meals as it does to cook our own meals. Of course, Zoey doesn't understand but I keep telling her that it has to cook before she can eat it (enzymes have to sit 15 minutes before she can eat and then mixing of all the supplements/meds) and she is just beside herself with anticipation. On the bright side, she's so worked up and ready to eat that she's really easy to pill -- just put it in the bowl and keep your fingers out of the way.

Blessings, everyone!

LOL ... oh, Zoe-Zoe.

I knew when DH started packing the ice chest this morning and declaring we were going to get out of the house and go for a hike that she was going to have a banner day. Whatchagonnado? A cat is a cat and that is that.

Fed her a meal a little early since she's dropping so hard and fast. Will check her in 1/2 hour and see where she's at.

281208

that is a fast drop.....

I would try to keep her over 50 so you can stay at this dose for a few cycles. Sometimes that can really help flatten out the steep rise and falls in the blood sugar.

Hope you get to get out at some point! Enjoy your day!

Wow Zoey - way to show off your diving skills (of course with the usual awkward timing these cats have)! That's far enough though, OK - stay away from the sharks in the deep end or I'll have to send Rosa to haul you back in!! ;)

@rhiannon and shadow LOL ... yeah, that made me laugh. snorted a little coke (a-cola) out of my nose, too. thanks for the unexpected! :p

Thanks, @julie & punkin (ga), I was kind of thinking that if I kept her from falling so low maybe the bounce wouldn't be so high so I'm glad you said that. I was worried that I was maybe messing a good thing up by feeding her when she was there.

Zoey says, no sharks, April @manxcat419 ! She is headed back to bluer waters. :)

Evidently the waters were a bit too frigid. She's on the way back up. I've put Otto in charge and put a wee bit of MC food down for her now to boost it a tad and have Otto feeding her every hour. She should be good. We will be back in about four hours so hopefully she'll be in some good numbers for this evening's second act.

I just realized I forgot to post the +5 bg. I came on to do that and started reading other posts and got lost, I guess. Sorry about that. I've updated it now and closed the dive show down for this morning. Enjoy the day all!

The brand of fish oil that I use suggests 0.5ml for a 5-9 lb cat and .75ml for a 10-14 lb cat. The fish oil bottle comes with a dropper that measures that amount. For reference, a 1/8 tsp is .6 ml. I usually split the dose, half each for AM and PM. And yes, that does add to the production line and length of time it takes to make the meals. I've got a critic in my house too on how long it takes to put together fuds.

Whoa Zoey - slow down a little please. The weather is better for surfing than diving. Enjoy the hike Rose! Sometimes it's nice to have an early nadir cat. :)

Yes, there is definitely a connection between the fast drops and the high peaks. Dropping fast (more than even 50 points per hour) can trigger the cat's body to think they're in free fall with a hypo. That brings the next bounce.

Have you read the suggestions about feeding the curve? On the Where Can I Find? post look at the bottom section under "feeding".

When I started I thought the goal was to get dose decreases by the cat going under 50. The goal is to get the cat tightly regulated, between 50-120, and to do that it means getting them up to the "right" dose that will help bring down those highs. Sometimes they need to stay at that dose for a while, which can mean that you have to prop up the low numbers with carbs in order to stay there. Just keeping her over 50 will help with that.

I'm glad to hear Zoey's staying away from the sharks and letting you have your day as planned. :) Surf safe Zoey (still nice to see some green this morning though)!! :D :D

Booooiiinnnnnggg!

Will check Zoe starting at +2 and see if I can't catch the start of the fall so I can feed it so it doesn't drop so low so fast this time...

Had a wonderful time out today. Hiking and then a winery on the way home. Purrrrfect!!!!

So glad you got to enjoy a great day despite Zoey's best attempts at a diving distraction! :) I'm in the same boat with Noodle now, we can start the Reducie Avoidance Support Group: for cats that need to lose their trampolines.

Sign us up, @Patricia & Noodle ! She's trying to build some momentum tonight but I've fed her to slow her down some. Hope Noodle gets out of those reds soon and stays flat for a while. I'd be happy with some flat yellows tonight if it would take the spring out of this bounce.
