PMPS=218 (0.75u); +2.25=203

First, I want to thank everyone who visited Lucy's condo yesterday for your vines, prayers, positive thoughts and encouragement.
I am sure they had a lot to do with how well the dental procedure went yesterday, and how well she's recovering. :YMHUG:

Lucy is doing good.
She's still tired and sleepy today, but her appy is fine, and ate the 1st and 2nd breakfast pretty well.
She still wants to be finger-fed, but that's fine.
As long as she eats, she gets to pick how she wants to eat.
To be honest, I wasn't really expecting her to eat so soon after the procedure.
I was prepared but dreading to have to syringe-feed her, so this is such a wonderful surprise!

About the AB, I decided that I'd stick with the capsules because the drops taste indescribably horrible.
But it was really hard to pill her last night with only 1 set of hands, so I used my secret weapon this morning.
I wrapped it in a piece of tuna sashimi, and she ate it no problem.
I was afraid that she might bite into it and break the capsule, but she just swallowed it.
I guess the capsule was slippery, and she didn't taste anything, so she didn't hesitate to swallow it.
I know it's not ideal to use fish, but this is how I'm going to pill AB because I can't really hold her mouth open without touching the extraction site, and I don't want to mess with the fresh suture.
Also, I'm going to try ReNew Ultimate Flora instead of FortiFlora while she's on AB.
I get an impression that the ReNew is more powerful?

Today is holiday in Canada, but I have to work because I didn't get much done yesterday.
But I can work from home and stay with Lucy.

Sending vines to all in need.

Re: 4/18 Lucy AMPS=202;+2=256

I am using the Renew Ultimate Flora for J.D.
The Forti Flora tends to make him constipated, and we don't need that.

I'm glad Lucy is eating and on the way to feeling much better.

Re: 4/18 Lucy AMPS=202;+2=256

Sounds like a pretty good start to the day. I'm glad it went well. Healing vines for Lucy to get healed up and happy!

Re: 4/18 Lucy AMPS=202;+2=256

That's great news that Lucy's wanting to eat! It's also great that you figured out how to pill her with the tuna sashimi. Thankfully, I have no one that currently needs meds other than insulin, but our pilling experiences in the past have not been fun. Hope you get to enjoy your holiday!

Re: 4/18 Lucy AMPS=202;+2=256

Sounds good. How many days of antibiotics do you need to give him? Probiotics, is a good idea.

Re: 4/18 Lucy AMPS=202;+2=256

How wonderful that Lucy wants to eat and doesn't need to be syringe fed. That would be miserable for both of you, I bet.

I think that any way you can get the capsule of AB into her is a good thing. That's more important than the fish, and you've giving such a small amount of fish that I doubt it would matter. Pilling a cat is never easy. The less traumatic you can make it, the better. I have to put my Abys in a cat sack because they just won't hold still, but my Minka is a pro at it (although I have to watch her, as she's also a pro at catching it on her tongue and spitting it out later! :o  )

Sending healing vines for Lucy's mouth. Have a great day, Mariko!

Re: 4/18 Lucy AMPS=202;+2=256;+5.75=218

What a great Lucy report today, given she just had a dental. :-D Sounds like she's eating find and you haven't had to try the baby food yet.

When I pill I grab the scruff lightly with my left hand, and use it to tilt the head back. That usually drops the lower jaw enough I can toss in a pill then follow it with a chaser of some clear water in a syringe, then close the mouth with my right hand and stroke the throat.

Have a good day Mariko. I'm glad you are able to be home with Lucy today, even if you are working.

Re: 4/18 Lucy AMPS=202;+2=256;+5.75=218

I'm glad Lucy is doing so well today. :-D I don't think it matters what you use to get the AB in her as long as she takes it. Sending prayers for Lucy's healing.

Hi Mariko,
I'm so glad that Lucy had a good day after the dental and that you were able to get the AB pill into her without too much difficulty. I have never been able to give pills! Kudos to you!

Have a lovely weekend. Lots more fast-healing vines for Lucy tonight.

Hi Mariko,

How's Lucy doing tonight? I'm so glad the dental went well! It looks like her numbers haven't been too bad today, either, with all things considered. Yay!

I know you've been really, really stressed this week. Don't forget to take at least a few minutes to take care of you! You won't be any good to Lucy if you don't take care of yourself! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Still sending out lots of thoughts and prayers to Lucy for a speedy recovery.
Shelly

I am so glad and relieved to see that Lucy is recovering beautifully! Getting meds into our babies can be so tricky. I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember someone saying clindamycin is available by injection maybe??? It could be something worth looking int.

I hope you guys are having a great evening. Keep healing, sweet Lucy!

Re: 4/18 Lucy PMPS=218

Thank you very much for checking in on Lucy!!!
Lucy slept most of the day bathing in the sun coming in from the window.
Her sleep was deeper than usual. I think she needed it.
She woke up about an hour before the PM shot/dinner time, and seemed eager to eat.
She ate the first few bites really well, but slowed down for the rest.
Her throat is bothering her this evening, I think from the breathing tube thing.
And I can tell she's noticing her mouth feels strange when she eats.
I hope she'll get used to it soon.

Unfortunately, my secret weapon didn't work for her evening dose of AB.
She's a smart girl, and the capsule is a little too big for her not to notice.
So I had to pill her by itself, and she's very upset.

Good thing Wendy gave me a tip!!
It didn't go as well as Wendy described.
I grabbed her scruff and tilted her head back, but she resisted it so hard until her upper eyelids were pulled up I could see a lot of white part of her eyes  , plus what little angle got tilted, the lower jaw came together.
But, tilting her head by the scruff is WAY better than grabbing at her upper jaw for her new mouth right now.
The tricky part was to pull her lower jaw down and throw in the pill with the same hand, but I manged it this evening.
She will resist harder next time, I know. 3 pills down. I can't believe I have to do this 11 more times. :-x

Thank you, Amy, for your suggestion.
I think it is Zener who got injectable clindamycin.
I'll see if both Lucy and I can get better at pilling first, but I'll keep that in mind!

Re: 4/18 Lucy PMPS=218

Yes, Zener has gotten clindamycin shots, to try to minimize the upset to his gut. Recently we got BID shots of smaller dose, 0.2 ml. Sending recovery vines for Lucy. That's great that she's eating on her own.
Liz

Re: 4/18 Lucy PMPS=218

Liz - Lucy is not eating on her own. Yet. ;-)

And thank you, Rhiannon.
I'll try buttering it tomorrow morning.

I'm glad she's doing better. that the sashimi isn't working anymore.

You know clindamycin is injectable too? I wonder if you can get your vet to give it to you that way and convert it to IUs so you can give it in an insulin syringe?

Happy Good Friday!!
