Good evening,

it was a strange week and we are back in the high numbers after very low numbers in the night from sunday to monday.

After her pm shot on sunday she started going down very early and quite rapid. At +4 I was able to draw a blood test when she was 70 on the Libre and she was 107 on the Accu Check. I got scared because it was so early in the cycle and she was going down with rapid speed. The lowest on the libre was 64 with the arrow pointing straight down and I gave her lots of high carb stuff in slight panic.

The next day I reduced again (to 2.25 IU) because - even though I didn't see a 89 on the handheld - I felt that she was dropping to0 fast and early and I could only stop it with lots of food. Maybe that was another mistake I made because the last two days we saw only red and pink. :-( I don't know if this could be a bounce from the low numbers before or if the dose is too low? One good thing happened: After eating was such a struggle she is eating quite normal the last two days. Maybe that also makes the bg higher?

Next week we have the surgery (removing a lump under a wound not healing) which makes me also anxious to dose her right. My vet said I should not feed her 3-4 hours before the surgery but should give her the normal dose. I could feed her before the injection and than she would fast until the surgery at +4. I don't know when she wakes up and if she would eat then but it sounds like a long time without food on her normal dose. I will ask for suggestions on that the next week.

I hope everyone has a safe and calm night! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, I'm glad Binie is feeling and eating better, great news! Wishing you good luck next week with the surgery.
Sounds like Binie is bouncing from lower numbers earlier this week, plus the reductions.
I'm glad you can check her low BG with a handleld meter to make sure she's ok!

I would make sure to post with a question mark and ask about sedation and dosing for surgery so you can get some ideas on what others here think you could do to be prepared.
Paws crossed it's an easy and successful surgery! Big hugs to both of you:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you Staci, the eating makes everything easier. I hope Ivy also gets better day by day and will eat on her own again soon. I am really curious how her T4 changed. Thank you also for the good wishes for the surgery. Somehow I am scared but I really want this surgery now to be done and to remove the source of what bothers her so much. The vet brought up another more friendly option and said it could also be a lipoma. We'll see.

I think I will keep the dosage for two more days to clear the bounce and than make a new decision. And yes, I will ask for adivice how to handle the insulin on the day of the surgery the next days. I will try to do some research first so I can ask a little more precise. So much to learn....

Hope you and Ivy stay safe and happy and have a relaxed night without any alarms. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
