Yesterday's Condo

Thank you everyone for your insights yesterday into the medications and dosing.

Atlas seemed to slow down a bit last night and reading the medication information that may be because some of them cause drowsiness. He was also a bit grumpy again about be handled and I think his tummy still hurts, although we are still taking bupe.

He delivered several runny, stinky poo's in the LB and floor outside the litter LB last night. Poor guy...I hope we didn't jump the gun and switch to oral meds. too soon. Although Attie is way off his typical foods and this runny poo maybe because of that.

After his exploits at the LB he proceeded to be fiesty about getting me up at 2:30am and getting him something to eat. Walking on me, nibbling my hands and arms, headbutting my pillow, walking on my head and finally biting my nose! With that I finally got up and decided to see if he would eat his raw rabbit, since if the runny poo is now due to his IBD... and not the panleukopenia...we can fix the runny poo and the high glucose numbers. So I defrosted a nugget in the microwave and delivered it to the bedroom...and he ate it!!!!

Attie was offered for breakfast his raw rabbit nugget dusted with fortiflora...and he ate it too!

As I put together the dosing syringes, pills, and insulin for our medications this morning I could not help but think about this past week.

Attie being presented at the vet last Tuesday with what was thought to be a bad URI, to needing lots of testing because we had no idea what we were dealing with and then getting the panleukopenia DX as it is not something normally seen in an adult cat. It has been one wild ride.

Last fall when Atlas took very ill and needed X-rays etc. at that time it wiped out his budget. There was enough there to cover the vet bill at the time. I had spoke with DCIN at that time, but had declined their assistance as we had things covered. This time though came so quickly. We knew April was the month for Attie's wellness check-up, shots, and initial dental exam and cleaning if needed. Within a few days that budget was wiped out by the illness. I am ever grateful to DCIN to conduct fund raising on behalf of Atlas(thank you to those who have been able to help) and to my vet Dr. N for being willing to treat Atlas at his clinic, instead of seneding us off to an expensive specialty facility with 24/7 care. Dr. N came in on Saturday and even Sunday to treat Atlas. I've never met a vet like Dr. N. Indeed, those of you who recall Gary's story will recall the whole staff at Westlake Animal Clinic is truly beyond just regular vet techs and doctors.

And thank you to ALL of you who have checked in to support us through this incredible event.

I am a pet sitter, but I'm not big enough to have a staff yet and every month business does get better. Last week in all this chaos I had several calls for new clients...and several of those calls I had to turn away because owners refused to update their cat's vaccinations. As I go through my home on a daily basis bleaching all the hard surfaces, creating a contamination stop zone, and spraying the bottom of my shoes all in an effort to reduce the risk of me transferring this virus...I will be doing this for 6 weeks as Atlas continues to shed active virus in his feces and urine. Every trip to the litter box from him is a potential contamination event as his litter paws hit the floor when he is finished. Even with all this effort the virus will still be lingering viable around here in hidden areas or unconsidered hot spots. I do pondor my pet sitting reputation and how this event limits my business growth, if I remain what I consider ethical and honest. It also means there is huge consideration to changes in my business contracts and even advertising.

A consultation with a defense attorney, thank goodness she took me for free for several consults, we will be putting together several letters to go out to my existing clients. Those that were potentially exposed and to those who may schedule services later this year. It will contain wording of some sort that vaccinations are the owners responsiblity and that I am not liable if their pet gets sick due to them choosing to not vaccinate their pets.

My head hurts, my heart hurts...and there is a huge gut-checked ball of anger at all the damage one single misdiagnosis is wreaking on Atlas, on my own life, and livelihood.

Oh beth .. I wish I could do something for you and atlas .. All I have to offer are my thoughts and prayers that each day get's a little easier for the both of you .. (((hugs)))) (((scritches))))

Beth, I'm sorry that I didn't know all of what you are going through. With my own illness, I can't stay on the computer too long or I just get more and more pain. It sounds like you have been through a lot and I can only offer my words of support, healing vines for you and Atlas, and hope that it does not hurt your business too much. It sounds like you are doing everything you can for your clients and for Atlas, so don't be too hard on yourself, and remember to get rest. I'm sorry I can't do more right now, my DH just got a temporary loss of a day a week, which in one way was good, because he is tired, but with a son in college, and the cost of supplies for Daphne, and everyday life, it's not so good right now.

I do hope Atlas will get better soon.

Wow, I had no idea of all of the ramifications of Attie being sick. Wow. Maybe one good thing is that some clients will get the vaccinations and save their pet getting sick. (((Beth)))

Kinda makes you stop and think...

((((Beth)))) I am so sorry for all you and Atlas have been through. You have been so diligent with your clients, I wish they realized how important that is for the health of their own pets. I wish my pet sitters were as good. I am really happy that Atlas is feeling better and eating again. Sending prayers for full recovery for Atlas and your business.

Hugs and pets from us here in Texas! I've been thinking about you and Atlas every day. I echo the other LLers sentiments in really wishing there was more I could do to help. I'm sorry you two are having to go through this. You've been through so much. I hope the impact on your business is minimal. You've just had one worry after another.

I'm still praying that Atticus continues to improve. I know some days improvements come a little more slowly, but I'm so glad he's eating this well now. My friends and family are continuing to send love and healing energy to Atlas.

Atticus just came over to headbutt the computer. He's sending his good thoughts and get-well wishes to Atlas, too.

Don't forget self-care! I hope your heart feels better today. :YMHUG:

Aw, Beth...i so wish you and Atlas didn't have to go through this.

Binks and I are wishing we could be there to take some of the load...
or at least to give you a laugh or two.

Sending love and healing your way- with many hugs for you both!
