Morning, LL.

I know better. I really do. I pulled 2 units, went to shoot, he moved, the needle bent. So, I got a new needle, and redrew...this time, shot was successful (and in a different spot). Just now, as I was petting him, I realized the original spot has liquid on it...meaning some insulin. So now I'm worried that the bent needle had gone in, he got some insulin from that one, AND got a full 2 units from the other one.

Logically, I can say that if the needle bent, the liquid was deposited on his skin. Emotionally, I'm worried I've OD'd Eeyore. So now we wait...

I should've just left this as a fur shot. But my brain was stuck in logic mode...if the needle bent, it didn't go in, and insulin was deposited on the skin. Makes perfect sense to me.

I have plenty of strips and food, so if needed, I'll treat the OD and we'll go into the vet if necessary. But dammit, I should've left it as a furshot, logic be damned.

OTOH, I just saw a great big grey streak fly by followed by an ivory streak - Eeyore was being chased by Mal...having a great time playing tag.

Re: 4/17 Eeyore AMPS=256. Problem.

Ah well, time will tell I suppose if your logic was as skewed as the first needle, but what's done is done, so just watch closer than normal.

Tag is great! I hope they are having a great morning of it!

Re: 4/17 Eeyore AMPS=256. Problem.

looks like today will be a testing day, make sure you're stocked up on testing treats, HC, and syrup just in case. Most likely it will be a non-issue, but get a +2 and go from there, ok? ((((Michele)))) it will be ok, you know what to do, and it's Saturday so there will be people here all day to help.

Re: 4/17 Eeyore AMPS=256. Problem.

I've got plenty of strips, lots of HC, and know what to do and don't tend to panic. I am planning on getting quite a few pokes this morning, too. I'm kicking myself - I should've just let it be a fur shot. Hopefully, it really will be a non-issue...

Sigh.

Re: 4/17 Eeyore AMPS=256. Problem.

Hi Michele, If the spot on his coat was still wet, it probably was a fur shot. Just keep an eye on him all day. My vet told me a story about his assistant's diabetic cat. Her mother was cat-sitting while she was away. She was supposed to shoot 3.0 units, but she shot 30!!!!!!! (the cat was fine, apparently). Hang in there, watch, but don't worry. Eeyore is off playing and couldn't care less!

Oooooo....you said a bad word! At least is wasn't one of the fowl words!

Don't worry Michele. An extra two units isn't going to require an ER trip. Just test and feed as needed. It really, really will be okay.

Re: 4/17 Eeyore AMPS=256. Problem.

Sorry...was immersed in Endocrine, and forgot to post.

He's fine. He's at 141 right now, went up to 306 at +1, back to 218 at +3, and is now at 141. I don't want to say we're outta the woods, but this doesn't seem to me to be an OD...I probably would've seen something lower by now, if it were. And there's food out, too, so...

We'll see how the rest of the morning goes, but right now, I'm thinking my logic held. However...I will leave it as a fur shot should this happen again. Lesson learned, and like I said, it's not over. But so far, so good...

Whew. I didn't realize I was holding my breath until I read your most current post just now. Good luck with the rest of the cycle and hope it is just a pretty "normal" cycle, no surprises.

Re: 4/17 Eeyore AMPS=256. Problem. So far, so good...+4=141

just remember that because of the shed, sometimes a Lantus overdose can take the form of extended duration instead of low numbers. That means that if he did get too much insulin, the low numbers might show up tonight or tomorrow instead of today. Hopefully not, but it's something to be aware of. I agree that it looks good so far.

Re: 4/17 Eeyore AMPS=256. Problem. So far, so good...+4=141

happy to see things are going well so far.
remain vigilant though because like libby said... the effects could show up later. it could also be a non-event. i vote for the latter! :-D

I vote for the latter, too, Jill...and yes, Libby. I will be vigilant. I promise.
