Hey guys and gals!!!
Quick question for ya. Charlie has seemed to be less patient with me the last few days... Know he knows his poke spot and starts squirming right away...he was doing great and was so patient! He doesn't bite or hiss or anything... Just a squirmy wormy. Any advice??
His spot is on the counter. Maybe I should change it. I don't know if it had to do with the fact that feeding time is after and he just wants to eat. Oh well.
oh... And we get a new baby drooler tomorrow. This should be interesting to say the LEAST!!

I'm going to answer your question with another question....Is he reward for testing just his regular food? Or does he get a special treat? If it is just his regular meal, make it more special by giving him special treats. Autumn is fed her regular meals after testing as well but she gets tiny bites of tuna or raw chicken that the other cats don't get when she gets her pokes. She gets a couple bites before we test and then another right after.

Oooohh. That's a good idea. Treat before and after. I don't give him too many treats. Many times he pukes them. But I can do the tuna/chicken for sure. I'll start that today.

lol yeah it is a barter system here...Tried just letting meals be her treat for letting me test and she gave me this look like "Hey! you feed everyone and you don't poke them...not fair! Where are those special treats I use to get when we started this ear poking stuff?" Now with Maxwell, he was never big on food treats but LOVES to be brushed, so when he was still getting tested everyday, I would get the brush out, give him a good long brushing, stop, quickly test, and go back to brushing. It just takes finding a high value treat and now both show up when I need to test them...lol

Jez is really not treat motivated either so there's no way I'm able to bribe her onto the desk. She knows that she gets tested before she eats and so she'll park herself under the dining room table so I can't reach her. Sometimes I put the food out and then grab her as she comes for it - sometimes I just tell her brother no one is eating till she's tested and he smacks her around a bit. But lately she is really into her cat snake on a stick....so I dangle that about until she forgets why she's under the table. Once I have her, she's resigned to being tested - its just the game of trying to avoid being caught for it. Fortunately she spends a lot of time lazing about on my desk or on her favorite chair - and then I can just bring the testkit to her without a problem.
