Hi everyone,

Bear is back up to 1.25U now. I did have a question. His nose was very crusty and had a little bloody crack when I first got him. Once his infections cleared up his nose got better, but still always looks a little dry and that bloody crack has remained. I was looking at his nose up close today and it looks like it's also getting more brown. Maybe I'm looking too closely, looks like in other pics it's always been a little brown.

Should I be concerned? And is there anything I can do to help heal the cut? I've been using Vitamin E oil but doesn't seem to help. Pic is below, you can see the cut on the right side.

Awe Meredith I wish I had some advice,,, :bighug:I see that cute face and nose..... I could only guess he will lick off most things applied to the nose? This could be nothing,,, (what a bad answer right? ) and something that will clear up as he progresses..... I hope someone else may have some good advice. xoxox

Meredith. This isnt medical advice ok..... but I was thinking about Bear today... ;). Does he usually have a cold wet nose? Or always warm and dry? (Kitkat occasionally has warm dry, but it's usually cold, wet and cute). Is Bear showing any signs it is bothersome to him? Crusties all gone? Licking or pawing at it? If so, That may warrant a vet visit for sure. :) We know how cats hide health issues, but we also know how we all become hypervigilant with a diabetic kitty.... As Diane says, we become worry warts :banghead: . As the moderators say, know thy kitty, you are the best judge of unusual behavior. I'm quite sure proper hydration would have a big impact on a unregulated kitty right? (like when you rescued him)
I have pure coconut oil (since I cook with it sometimes) and I used it on Kitkats ears every few days when I was testing him like a vampire, since it has healing properties (much like Vit E). If you have a friend that has some, it may be worth a try. (It's expensive, and the smallest container would likely be a 25 year supply for kitty alone!) I put a few tablespoons in a clean baby food jar in the fridge. I still give Kitkat some once or twice a week, just a smidge he licks off my finger, and he goes crazy for it now ! A smidge on Bear's nose or from your finger, he will lick it off and injest it. My understanding is has several beneficial properties that help, and little chance of causing harm (aka interacting badly with meds/ health issues etc). Could be worth a try to speed healing.... ? The color change is still a head scratcher....

Thank you! No bothersome signs. I just notices its like brown from the line down. It doesn't bother him at all. I would say his nose is on the dry side, which doesn't help heal that crack. He is consuming a good amount of water (drinking a fair amount but not guzzling it like he does when he's on the high end). The coconut oil on ears is a good idea, I might give that a try on the nose also. Can't hurt! Thanks for the suggestion :)
