Starting the morning splashing in the pool. Unfortunately she is back on a full 1u and its officially she is hypothyroid which is a rare condition in cats. So she isn't metabolising the insulin as fast as she should. Because its rare in cats her vet had to order the meds in a dose small enough for her which should be here by next Wednesday.

Ha ha just like me!!! I wonder what her meds will be? Well I guess it is good to know what is troubling her health.

@Robin

She'll be on Synthyoid (sp?). When she had xrays for her dental last year they saw that she had a BB near her thyroid which at the time we decided to leave because it was riskier to remove than leave. Without doing more xrays Dr Tami feels its either moved or possibly nicked the thyroid in the beginning. Either way she thinks that its to blame for her being hypothyroid now.

There is a possiblity that they could do surgery on her and fix it but at her age I chose to try medication rather than put her through surgery. Afterall she's somewhere around 19 so I can't see putting her under on a maybe. If she was younger I might have considered it.

So the same medication as for humans. That's interesting. Dosing should be interesting as it is much like insulin in that you have to play with it until regulation.

That was my understanding as well that we'll be adjusting dosage as we go until we get it right. I haven't told Autumn yet that she'll be seeing her least favorite people about every 3 months for awhile for bloodwork. Lol. And that we might also be moving to an "in and out" insulin because while we're regulating the thyroid it's going to also change how she uses insulin and I might have to just chase her numbers. Sort of like making a mobile you move one part you then have to adjust the other pieces until it all balances again.
