I hate increasing in the evening, so tomorrow morning or Saturday maybe?

We have an appointment with an internist tomorrow to see if something else is going on or what we can do with the insulin dosage. My guess is they're just gonna tell me the same stuff that our vet already did, which makes me nervous, since it's a lot of money. I'm gonna call today and see what I can glean before the appointment, or at least be able to email the doc all the info that I have, and put my concerns into email form rather than having to talk over the phone. I hate not being able to be in the room with my boy during this COVID-19 stuff. I can barely hear anything and I feel like it lets people be more dismissive of your concerns when they don't have to see you face to face.
 
Hopefully this morning was the high before the bounce breaking and he'll come down today. If not, he's been at this dose long enough and needs an increase. I wouldn't delay.

What stuff did your vet suggest might be happening? Just wondering what was the reason for the referral to an internist.

He didn't suggest anything. He sort of just washed his hands of us. Said he didn't know what to do.

I would do the increase tomorrow, but his vet visit is in the morning, and I don't want a possible hypo episode like last time we went up. Especially since they still want us to give him his shot in the morning, but to feed him less.
 
OK, good to know there wasn't any underlying condition he was worried about. Hugo's SS just looks like a typical bouncy fairly newly diagnosed cat.
 
Don't despair! Kitties love to bounce especially when they're new at lower numbers. It's normal for their bodies to allow the liver to release all the stored up glycogen as a response to a supposed threat from those nice low numbers the other day...just give him a little time to come down. Increase the as Wendy mentioned.

I have to tell you I never consulted the vet again after Luci's initial diagnosis. I was able to get her on a better insulin after joining this group than anything my vet had to say. First vet recommended euthanasia. 2nd vet recommended Lantus and DM food - so he was at least half way better than the last one. The insulin was a good recommendation, the food was not. At any rate, I learned so much more from this group than anything my vets could ever have told me. They simply do not have time to stay up to date on the best practices for feline diabetes.

May I ask where are the numbers or any info in your SS for February?
 
We don't have any info for February. The vet said not to be concerned with numbers in that first month since we were still trying to get him to recover from the hepatic lipidosis, and trying to make him eat as much as possible. We just followed what he told us at that point.
 
Yep, I'm afraid so....two months is just barely getting started. It's possible that he's been diabetic for quite some time prior to the diagnosis, which caused the ketones and liver issues. You can put him on the road to good health again - but it's going to take a lot of love...and some effort and energy...He's so adorable though...I'm sure you're up for the long haul :)

ok. You might want to put that into the first line of your SS - you could just put up a couple of lines and put the date like this:

FEBRUARY 2020 - Under vets advice we did **** so there were no blood tests to report...or something along those lines.
 
Ok, I definitely don't know what's going on with this guy.

Luckily we tested a little early tonight. I should stall, right? Test again in 15?
 
Up 40 points or so from food, not bad. If you shoot low, the cycles are typically much flatter.

Not now because he is safe, but if he drops below 68 in the middle of the cycle I would feed him some high carb.
Can you test one hour from now? I’ll set my alarm so I can get here in good time....I have been out feeding animals, and didn’t realise the time.

If he drops below 68, that is the take action number on the alphatrak. If it was at the end of the cycle, when the insulin was waning, you could try low carb to get it up but during the cycle, especially before nadir, I would feed a teaspoon of high carb.
