AMBG 85 same as last night


Hank woke up sweet as ever. crawled under the cover & assumed the position (on his side, hands stretched over head) and made biscuits on me til he drooled.
Then ENOUGH and out from the covers he comes. He's up on the testing table early. I had to hedge for 45 minutes. Lots of overnight food left but I'd picked it up by then. So all purrs at testing time. But lots of unsuccessful pokes again today. 3 tried and the dreaded error5 on one ear. Got it on 4th try and different ear. Now he's fed and happy and napping like a cat.
Feeling a little melancholy today. We are so excited as our trial nears end...but sad too as we have grown accustomed to your visits and will miss it. This community and your support has sustained us. I was so scared & for the most part going it alone without even a vet to rely on. Still pretty much the case. I got lucky with my boy, and I'm so proud of him. But this was no guarantee, and had we not found our way here and followed the very little we'd been told, I think things would be quite different right now. We are so grateful.

We are so excited about the next chapter...but not so much about not having our pad here for everyone to visit. Are there hard rules about this? Can't we have a city pad AND a Falls pad? We'll commute! Seriously makes me sad thinking about it...we'll be lonely.
We love all our new friends....we LIKE seeing you every day. We don't want to do without that.
And for as much as I've learned, I still feel clueless on so many things. This just all sort of happened..we were never sure on all the why's and what's.
Now again trying to figure it out with food. So we keep going and flowing...filled with hopes for his continued health and happiness.

Now we have to get our naps in and gear up for Max's Big Bash. party_cat Oh BOY is that going to be a blast. Can't wait...see you all there!!

LL is an amazing place. Tears again today too.
It is so weird to not have a condo today so we are just visiting
in between the party.

Well Hank...great AMPS for you today, eh? Very Nice Happy Day 13!!! This is IT...

((Betty)) It is a bittersweet time....yes....but we will still be here. You can Hank can come and stay over at ours anytime....we love to see your posts! You can hang out as long as you want cause we have lots of room!

When Raja went OTJ, I started really thinking about the Beans who had just one FD kitty and what would they feel at OTJ time. I had a condo still open for Shadow so I was still here but I realized the sense of loss maybe is the way to put it. After all, we are here for many hours in each day...posting our numbers and sharing our stories and having some laughs too. It is a warm and loving community of faceless friends....on the Internet...wow...amazing , isn't it? the bond that we all form with each is really wonderful....

You and Hank have done a great job getting to this wonderful point! His pancreas is now working again! What a wonderful thing that is! And YOU did it for him!!! We do expect you to open a condo again and fill us in on how Hank is doing. as time goes by. I think CD knows the routine...whether it's once a week for the first month and then monthly after that....something like that. But don't be a stranger for those of us left behind. We hope to be joining Hank at the Falls one day too.....

It's a great day.....the last day of Hank's trail!!! Now, meet us at the party and we can par-tay!!! :YMHUG:

Hi Betty and Hank, We are so happy for you both. What a terrific ride Hank has had to get to OTJ so quickly! We'll miss your posts, too, but do visit LL often and Hank absolutely MUST come to all of the parties. When Stu gets back from Max's party tonight he's going to start cooking for Hank's party tomorrow. He has to consult his Texas cookbook! See you later!

It is a weird feeling that you've been posting daily for weeks, months, years and then all of a sudden, you're done and no more pokies, no more posting and now what do you do with yourself and your sudden free time.

Well, the fact is, nobody ever really leaves LL. While you won't need to post or poke daily, you can and are most welcome to post every Saturday - Old Timer's Day, as well as anytime you have a question or concern.

Just because a cat goes OTJ, you still can hang around, post in other bean's condo's, pay it forward and share your experience and knowledge and of course set up your commuter condo as needed.

Congrats and enjoy the time to come,. you both earned it.

(((Betty)))) sooo happy for you! What a great job you did with Hank! It must be bittersweet because this board has become my life and I would feel weird without it. But just think now you can leave the house for long periods of time, go on vacation, sleep in!!! etc! You must come visit us often and like the others said you have to come and update us. I know you won't be a stranger!!! Wow what a party weekend we are all going to have!!!!! Congrats again and Scrabble now has an assortment of party attire to wear at all these parties!!!!!

Thanks everybody. There will be pokies, and posts, I'm sure. I can't promise to stop any of that. Just not shots..that part's ok.
I will have to go to rehab to not come up here and post daily...I can't promise i will wait for just weekends. We'd be too lonely.

Vacations: are you kidding? Who is going to follow Hank around with a bowl when he takes only 2 bites and walks off. Sprinkle water and warm, Pop new tops on 2-3 and mix til you find just the right thing to please his palate d'jour? Stir and freshen or add some more when it's been sitting too long, bring it to him while napping so he doesn't have to be bothered. Toss rinse, repeat, an do some combinations of this several times throughout the day to be sure he gets enough nutrition.???
+ you have to let Elvis in the garage 50 times a day to eat his bad dry...or to at least look to know it's there and he can get to it if he wants to?
Nobody I know!!

The crazy part is unlike some of you, I haven't a clue as to why he does well or not. It's all been a fluke. It's not like there's a pattern that's been established, with certain foods that do x and others that do 'y' ..or exact feeding times that produce x result. Other than mini meals and trying to make sure he is eating several times a day...it's all been punting. I have no idea what the recipe is. HE's done it all. I just BUY it & open it...that's my role.

The great part is not having to be here at a PRECISE time...but never again back to dry food in the bowl and you're good for days.

I make no promises about abandoning our condo here. Ya'll may have to evict us!

Betty, when Boo and I became homeless, Miriam took me in. I made a point of causing some trouble every day in her condo! :mrgreen: Also, you can post in the condos of all your friends and post to everybody who doesn't have any replies yet. And come back every Saturday.

It is really weird and as you said, bittersweet. Something that seemed scary and hopeless to deal with actually turned into something very nice and there's actually a sense of loss when it's gone.

OR....you can adopt The Orinch Boyz from Dian and then you'll have a valid reason to post every day. Honestly, I think that's the best solution. :mrgreen:

I am sure you will be here every day cheering the next round of gum chewers, you've become a great cheerer and supporting around here and there are a lot more kitties trying to get there that love your support.

I was going to suggest the same thing, and if you don't need more boys I'm sure we can find you a girl or two in the system who need homes :-D

Maybe I should put together a little basket for all the mama's who are about to be so flustered with time on their hands. We've got lotsa kitties who could use a new family where the beans understand about FD :-D

Iz ok, we understand... see I have no condo, but somehow I manage to bug you guys like crazy. It's lots of fun. And we always need a kind word or some support to lonely condos and a little smile in condos that are sad... and cheers when there are successes and hugs when there are set-backs. We all need each other.

We will continue on together... just without shots, ok? Update us every week so we see how Hank is doing, then later once a month let us know Hank's number. Each kitty success is an encouragement to the ones still shooting .... so we NEED to hear how you are doing periodically.

Heather (Boo), you should post this in every OTJ condo. Brilliant!

So sorta off..but still on topic. I have a single insulin pen which is 43 days old. Haven't checked it in nearly 2 weeks but looked fine then. It's actually a bit in the way in the fridge- cant' find a good spot that wouldn't be against a wall and I know the door isn't good. The best out of the way spot is a little quick drawer under the 2nd shelf but I'm afraid it gets a little too cold. Anyway, I have no other unopened pens. Planned to get a back-up one when he was still on, but now should I still have one on hand? This one would be dated before long. While i hope there would be no need (((ANTIJINX!!! ANTIJINX!!!))) ..just checking as would want to be prepared. Did ya'll save pens 'in case'?
i still have strips..but wonder if enough. I still want to check him am/Pm at least for awhile..then gradually less.

Once a week on the condo? Ok, maybe, but no promises....I may have to go to rehab, I told ya.
And CD, there are times I wished you HAD a condo so we could keep an eye on you & Big Mac.
Guess we'll have to visit you at the falls complex.

CD- any post-juice tips would be great. I sorta know how you did your testing..but any other routines you got into to keep things smooth sailing?
Is it any different for Big Mac now than in beginning? have you made adjustments, altered feeding things like that? (what's are his favorites, BTW?)

And WHEN are you & BigM gonna get to Max's party? Hank's dyin' to see him. Ready to get down and funky.

Hey Betty
No antijinx but I am keeping my stock for now.
I did send out a bunch of syringes and lancets.
I will go out away my hypo kit that is sitting in a basket in the kitchen.
I still have too many syringes and strips which I will donate eventually.

I still have 2 unused lantus pens which are good until Dec, thanks to that December
free offer. For sure I will hang on to one and just don't know how I could send
out a lantus to someone because of needing to keep it cold.

Can't wait to see you at Hank's party tomorrow. I know he is having a great time at Max's

Well, if I had them, I'd hang on to one as well. But since the only one i do have is open, not sure how long it will be good. I would like to be able to store it in this little auxiliary storage drawer (like size of a butter box)under a shelf to keep it safe and more out of the way now...but am afraid it gets too cold in there. It's almost impossible to test the temp. exactly. By the time the door opened, I pull the lid off the drawer and I remove the thermometer to check it, it has typically changed at least a degree or more even in those seconds. Seems like I saw it get to 35-36 or less, so made me wonder how much colder with everything shut, like overnight.
Save the other one for us! sure wished we'd gotten a free coupon. I'm still gonna need more strips I think.
And looking at Max's mid-day number today..I'm not sure if you should get rid of the hypo food or not! if anyone could go diving during OTJ it would be him.
Can they get into the 30's?

Well, back to your party! We're gonna need some ~O) it's going to be a wild couple days!!

Thanks Nicole! and for the sweet comments...I sure think he's handsome! And he's getting cuter by the minute as he feels so much better. Maybe he & Baby could meet and have a date?? ...though I bet the line for that dance ticket is long.
He's never had a girlfriend being an indoor cat, wonder if he'd know what to do??

PMBG- 95/91. Not our best number to close out our trial.
Multiple pricks again tonight- DRAT. Poor baby's, poor ears.Between this morning and tonight I must've poked 10 times+. Finally got what i thought was enough for a sample, not a great bead..then barely went up the strip.. 95. Yuk. Seemed high. Switched ears, re-tested 91. Maybe not. I forgot to pick the food up so possible he ate within 2 hours of test? And in between ears...he whopped my glasses off my face. He NEVER does that. He wasn't being bad..he's super sweet but i think maybe when i was leaning in, he thought he caught something in his peripheral vision.. I dunno..but he whacked and they went flying.
Then purrs. But he was done and antsy & glad when it was over.
We'd been using regular neosporin, but recently opened some of the creme w/ pain relief. Well that was the one I grabbed tonight since his ears had gotten so poked today..and when i glanced back he was shaking his little head all around. I'm not sure he liked it much. The FDCC got his mind off of it, but do ya'lls kitties react funny to the one w/ the pain relief? It must get numb-y.

Was hungry for dinner...Turkey wellness, no problem.

let's go see what the other kitties are doing.

Tugger didn't care for the alcohol swab with pain relief... and I once forgot to wash my hands after using one and touched my lips a little bit later... they went numb. He doesn't fuss about the neo w/pain relief though.

Did you see the tip someone (I forgot who and it's bugging me bc I want to say thank you) posted about pinching off the ear kind of more towards the tip and poking below that? The blood flows up the outside, over the tip and down the inside I guess, so pinching off the flow above where you poke forced a bead to form. I've not had to poke more than once since I started doing that. Tugger doesn't love it, but the pinch isn't hard at all he just doesn't like my hand placement. I'm working on that. In the meantime, I'm gettin' blood at least!
 
Well, not much longer and Hank will be officially official! More than 2 weeks of SOLID green numbers. Can't get better than that!

Tell him not to get stage fright for his big show tomorrow, and to finish packing his bags for the vacation-land of no more shooting. Yeah!

What a great job you did Betty, from the rough start and feeling like you were on a high wire without a net (or a vet.) But you came through with a stunning success! We are all so happy for you and so glad you found FDMB and became a member of the family.

BigMac and I are going to get some beauty sleep now. See you tomorrow at your party!
 
As others have said.. always lots of condo's to go post on.. and always TONS to read.. I don't always get around to posting everywhere.. but I try to at least stop by whoevers are less traveled through the day.. just because you went for a wild ride too fast to really keep up on Hanks journey doesn't mean the learning needs to stop.. and yeah.. there's always a FD kitty who needs a home if you get that lonely! :)
