Thanks to all who visited our condo yest. We appreciate all the support and encouragement.

I feel so badly for Fur Ball. That cone just immobilizes him. He doesn’t know what to do when it is on and is paralyzed. I so wish there was some other way to keep his stiches safe. He has a 3” incision down the front of his chest and with a mouth full of stitches I don’t want to risk him pulling them out. I brought him to bed about 2:30 last night and he slept between us. Of course he had to crawl up by my head so I could experience that cone along with him. He was smacking his teeth this morning and I finally figured out he is uncomfortable when he drools and then his chin is wet up against the cone. I put a tissue under his chin and he snuggled up against me for the rest of the night. Almost pushed me out of bed! Oh the things we beans do!

He had a small pee this morning but was not interested in breakfast. DH was able to get him to eat some when he went home for lunch. I really think the bupe is a huge trigger for his BG. The vet told DH that they have it specially compounded for cats so it can be administered orally. She didn’t say it, but I have a strong suspicion that it has to have sugar in it. We’ve tried weaning him off the bupe but I believe he is still in pain (and why wouldn’t he be!!! Poor guy) so we are using it sparingly to give him some comfort but not send him to another world. He’s not had ketones and while we are holding off on using any insulin, it is such a relief knowing we have a script in case we need it.

Well I have to get back to work (no snow closures—bummer). Will get back to condos later.

Celebrating the OTJ of Leo, the King of Farts!!!

Could you make the cone smaller? Since it is his chest that you are trying to prevent licking, the cone wouldn't need to be very big. Sending mega healing vines for FB and big hugs to you and DH. You are such good beans.

I got to where I always took the cone off when I was around.... and only put it on when I had to leave the house.
Obviously you have to go to work... and He can just lay there...until you get home.
Each day is another day further down the road to healing... It will pass....
it's just always so darn slow when you are in the middle of it.

Leo had to wear one for almost 3 weeks. I cut it down so it did it's "job" and that helped with the eating, but like you are experiencing, he'd get drool and food down in there and I'd have to get tissues in there and wipe it up. I didn't take it off - he was still a little wild back then - we'd just brought him into the house for the first time. It is so sad. Hopefully he'll work out a way to tolerate it and it will seem worse to you than it actually is to him.

I'm sorry Fur Ball hates the cone so much. I think all cats do. Hopefully you can have more time where he doesn't have to wear it and you can be around to keep an eye on him. I hope he heals quickly so he won't need it much longer.

Poor guy. Healing vines coming your way. The one is horrible. Tarragon had a soft one when his anal glands ruptured. Have a good night Carla. I hope you all get some rest!
