Good Morning LLers

Checkers is back on track today. I don't know how fast he dropped , 'cause I didn't test at 1 & 2 today, His ears got poked too much yesterday.
He's napping now, saving evergy for Max's party.
I have to get to the pharmacy and back, in case he drops more, so will check condos later.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271...+3/88 +4/56 Nervous!!!

His drop may not have been sudden, I didn't check sooner than +3.

I am very nervous when he goes this low. 80 to 100 is just fine with me.
I never got out to the store...waited for +4 and good thing I did. I set timer for 15 minutes.

He is under the bed now. He did this last time he went lower than usual. I'm thinking he knows I was ready to go out, and thinks he is going.....I can't believe he feels the difference in bg and hides because of that.

I'm rambling now, cause I'm nervous.....hope someone is still here in 10 minutes if I need my hand held..
I know others have gone lower, but I'm shaking now

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271...+3/88 +4/56 Nervous!

People are here! Maybe he's hiding because he knows low numbers mean more Ear Pokes!

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271...+3/88 +4/56 Nervous!

Just had to chase him through the house to check again. 48....gave his favorite gravy foood....check again in 15.
shaking all over......no one else seems to get this scared....Im a woos!!

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271...+3/88 +4/56 Nervous!

No you are not. We have all been there. The first is the worst.
How much gravy did you give. Usually in the 40's I would give Tsp of MC and
check again in 15.
You are doing great! Just don't fill him up too much.
It's still a bit early in cycle.
Do you know how to update your ss for these frequent tests?
If not, have a look at Max's and you will see many boxes with mny tests, numbers are in white and you will need to change the box colour yourself to green

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271...+3/88 +4/56 Nervous!

Okay, we're up to 64. I can breathe now. Randi, I was too shaky, and just dumped half a can for him. I warmed it a bit first to make the gravy runnier. He ate about half of that. I'll measure later to see how much to give next time this happens.
I update the SS a couple times a day, normally.
Thank you for being here. *hug*
Checkers says he isn't waiting any longer to get to Max's party.
Of course, now it's pouring out and my slow dialup is driving me nuts, so it takes forever to read condos.....price you pay for living in the sticks. *sigh*

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271...+3/88 +4/56 Nervous!

no you're not a wuss. when Maui threw me her first 40 something, I came home to find that and her napping in a chair. She gave me a look, like why did you wake me from my nap. I'm fine, I am doing what I am supposed to do.

I then tried to stuff her with food and she didn't want anything. I made such a mess panicking trying to get her to eat. I even took kibbles - which she didn't want @-) and put in blender with water and grilled FF to get her to eat. All that did was make a mess!

I finally gave her regular FF and spooned some gravy on top. That she very delicately ate and laughed while I cleaned up the kitchen mess.

So, congrats on handling your first low number! Now you know what to do for next time.

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271...+3/88 +4/56 Nervous!

Well Barb
Welcome to the land of getting below 50.
Updat your subject line and you will ask later for advice, since he hits in the 40's
but I am no expert there and some kitties will get reductions and some won't
I can only try and help with the food.

Now that you are calmer, I would still check again, I would prepare a little
plastic container to keep in the fridge of just the gravy. I used to strain it out
of the can so I did not need to panic.
I also kept my own special tsp in his "HC box of food" so I was prepared to measure
how much I gave him.
Great job today!!!

Echoing Hilary and Randi...you are not a wuss! We all go through that the first low number we get  I think I panicked, ran to post not knowing what to do, tried to feed her and proceeded to give way too much.

Good job handling this today! Next time you'll know just what to do.

((((Barb)))) you are doing great!!! You are not a wuss!!!! The first time Scrabble threw me those numbers I was in a state of panic too, armed with food in one hand and test strips in the other. Once you go through it a few times it gets easier, Scrabble was doing this to me every couple of days for a while. But the great thing is Checkers pancreas is healing and that is the best part!!! Congrats on a job well done and just breathe!!!!!!

Thank you Everybody. Okay, I confess, it's not the firt time Checkers has been in the forties. It scared the bejeebers out of me last time too. I'm only admitting it, 'cause Sienne might see this and remember.
Next time I will be prepared to not feed in panic...I hope.
I obviously should have givin him less, because he is now up to 95, which is still a nice number, but he might still be climbing.
Oh well, I can go to store now....it even stopped raining.
Still haven't gotten to condos yet.
Checkers told me to step back from him with those strips and lancet in my hand. He wants to get to the party.

Oooh boy, how are you now? Did you eat your chocolate?

Tugger's first drop scared the pants off me. I popped open a pouch of gravy food and dumped it in the dish and slid it under his face.

He looked at me kind of like "CAKE!! flip_cat ....You sure you want to give me this?..." then proceeded to eat it all up in between me poking his ears, purring his heart out the whole time. Then he got playful. At 44 or whatever it was, the big tub o'lard wanted to play! He was running up and down the hall. I kind of quit worrying then. Tugger likes the 40's, how can I get scared when he's trying to race me from room to room? So I think he now associates low numbers with happy things because he really doesn't seem to mind the pokefests that much and will purr and slap at dangling sleeves while I'm nervously trying to get his number. To him... low numbers mean yummy forbidden food, lots of treats, playtime, and cuddles with mama. All good stuff that must outweigh the sore ears I guess.

I don't know how I'd react if he got weak or scared or acted any way other than the way he is right now. I'd be a nervous mess I'm sure. I was trying to watch the foster cat Kitty situation with a spotty internet connection the other day and my heart was in my throat when Missy was dealing with 20's and I was thanking Bast that she had experience and lots of help and that Tugger's never gone that low.

Now that I'm kind of used to his little dips, I can pour off the gravy from the hc food onto his regular food and give the civvies the rest. I could bring him up without gravy food because I've paid attention to how 7% works on him and know it would do it but I figure he's earned the gravy treat with his dip so I give it to him.

Hope you have a calm evening! (antijinx!)

I saw others were there to walk you through it this am. :YMHUG: You did great! :thumbup
Checkers told me to step back from him with those strips and lancet in my hand. He wants to get to the party

See, I told you he was fine just avoiding pokes! When we get nervous, they get nervous. Just like learning to test. This gets easier too. :YMHUG: for you and cat_pet_icon for Checkers.

Fabulous job today Barb (and Checkers)!!!!

One cure for the a.m. cycle shakes is to step back from the coffee! ;-)

I cry out of fear every time latte goes too low....and shake, too!
Actually it has gotten better. A little more ho -hum. Depends on the time of day.
So, you are not alone there!

Hope the bounce isnt too bad.

Is that timed feeder here yet?!?!?!?

Re: 4/16.Checkers amps/271..Pmps/275

Well, we've been all over the place today. Methinks I gave him too much yummy gravy. Actually, he ate less than a Tablespoon of it, but that's all he needed.
I'll know better next time.
He's up to 275 pmps. I gave the usual F.5, just as I did this AM. Guess I'll be up late tonite.

And Marvie, yes I did get chocolate when I finally got out to the pharm.
The pharmacist knows about Checkers, and was fascinated with my story. She had no idea cats react to diabetes, the same as people.
Marvie, he did the same with his gravy beef food....kind of looked at it, like "can I really have this? Wow, thanks Mom" and shoved his face in it....he just ate the gravy and civvie Clancy got the chunks.

Carolyn, feeder isn't here yet, altho it's been shipped. I got my new BD syringes with half unit markings today. Nicer than the GNP. Seems to be easier to de-bubble.

LOL!! The first couple of times that you're dealing with dropping numbers is really nerve wracking! It really does get easier and even welcome. You will start looking for those numbers and be annoyed when Checkers taunts you with a 50. You did great!!

Hey Barb
I just checked in on the party and they are having a ball.
I did warn them that there was another party tomorrow and they promised they
will woop it up for Hank.

I know excatly how you felt about joining the "private club"
I was terrified of jumping in here and being a newbie.
Sometimes it was sd when there wer not a lot of visits since no one really new us.

I have a question for you. You said 2 months ago, your ss starts at Feb 20101 yet your sig
says member since 2009. Might that be a typo? Maybe Feb 2010?

Good job today with Checkers.

Barb!! You did terrific! Even an oldtimer gets a jolt seeing a 50 or 40's number, but you handled it great-
One thing to remember--YOU ARE IN CONTROL!! Just think that sentence when you see those low numbers--
You have hc food or gravy, you have strips & a meter, you have even karo, just in case-
That;s all you need--See!!! You ARE in control-Just feed, wait 15-20 min- retest---Then get your number-
Lather, rinse, repeat. till you have a number that feels right...That's how I learned to have the control..
Great day Checkers had today!! Good Job! :-D :-D :-D

Hi Barb, I just got to your condo and read about all the excitement. This has been quite a day for Checkers and you did fine. I worry when Stu hits the 40s too (not to mention the 30s and the 20s!!). But I just have faith that my friends here will help me and I try to stay calm and do what they suggest. It's the best feeling in the world to know that someone will be there to help and that you aren't alone. Each "crisis" then becomes a learning experience.
So now that your boy has safely bounced and is on his way to Max's party, you can relax and get ready for tomorrow!!!!! Get a good night's sleep! Great job!!

Ella
