OH MY GOOD GOLLY GOSH!!!!! HE'S TRYING TO EAT!!!!

Well technically he's just licking warm tuna but he's INTERESTED in food! This is the first sign of hunger since this happened. I went to his room - he's bright eyed, the sunken eyes and the 'give up' looks are gone!!! Oh I'm a dancing crying blubbering idiot about now!!!!!!!!!! WOOT WOOT!!!!

THANK YOU ALL for all the thoughts, prayers, hugs....keep them coming, we still need them but oh I'm just SO happy with even this little step!!!!
Oh Lyresa this brought tears to my eyes I'm so happy he's showing improvement!

(((Lyresa))) how horrible and terrifying for you!:( I'm so glad he is doing better! Sending truckloads of healing and eat your fuds and feel better vines:bighug::bighug::bighug:

For those of you not on FB, I'll paste @Squeaky and KT (GA)'s post here. She could use all the power of L&L Land vines for her civvie, Spike:

Lets get them flowing her way, please. Lyresa doesn't post here much, but she always shows up when someone needs encouragement or has to say goodbye to their sugarbaby. She could use our support.

Vines and prayers and white light headed to Spike, Lyresa, and :bighug:s for you.
Hang in there Spike Kitty :bighug:

Update this afternoon:

He's still trying to eat on his own! I got some FFeast that he likes today. He only eats maybe a tbsp at a time but enough singles and it will be a meal. I got some a/d to syringe as well as hi cal/hi protein gel to help too. I gave him 3cc's of gel a bit ago - he didn't think it was too bad. The foot is still floppy but he's out of the 'storm box' and laying around on the floor - hoping that means he's feeling better. I haven't flipped him over and looked at the huge wound altho' I see a lot of bruising all across the shaved belly area....not surprising at all. I also got some paper litter - he prefers the natural sand under my truck but sorry buddy boy, that's off limits for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to come.

I feel like he's at least 'holding steady' now, I hope there's a lot of internal healing going on but it's still 'one day at a time'. This still just breaks my heart that he's having to go thru this...he was in his own yard coming in for the night when it happened - that shouldn't have ever not been a 'safe' place.

HUGS and hugs and THANK YOU ALL for the thoughts, prayers, hugs and helping me thru this....it means SO much..

Lyresa, just seeing this. How scary and terrible this is. Hugs and prayers for you and speedy recovery for Spike. I hope your handing the bill to the dogs owners since they were unleashed.

UPDATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON:

He still isn't eating more than a tablespoon or so but he's not fighting me much if I syringe feed. He got his hi cal/hi 'stuff' gel which should help feed his body needs too. He's figured out if I bring out a towel, he'd just as well cooperate. He finished his Onsior last night, still days of clavamox tho'. I did give him a dose of Ondansteron a bit ago. The hip and knee are now working better but the foot is still completely uncontrollable and floppy. He's figured out how to raise it high enough to keep it from getting tangled or in a bad position. His stomach wound still looks good for the most part. 3-4 staples have come out but it's not pulled apart. Only about half an inch of one end still is a bit concerning but it doesn't look 'angry'. He's peeing fine now, just had a couple of small poops but most of what he's been eating will mostly all absorb. I really don't think he's constipated.

As if this isn't enough, a mentally and physically disabled lady that I do a few things for woke up this morning with blood everywhere - she mixed up her blood thinner meds and overtook for days. She's now in the hospital trying to get the bleeding under control - I've now got her dogs to care for also....big one is fine outside but the little Peke is terrified of cats and marks everything so can't bring him here. He's about to go to boarding if she's not coming home tmw. Will it NEVER end?

Thank you for posting the update! Many here are waiting to here from Spike and hoping for more good news.
Someone @my home with knowledge in human medicine says that Spike's going to poo is extremely promising sign. Good for him! And more prayers for his speedy recovery and good eating :bighug::bighug::bighug:
When it rains it pours. Seems to me that it is what you are going thru now. :bighug::bighug:
Hang on. I pray for it ends as in happy ending for all all of you.:bighug:

So happy to hear these great updates, Lyresa!!! Hooray for peristalsis!

Wow, Lyresa, your plate is overfull. I hope your neighbor gets better quickly so that your life can be a bit simplified. Good news about Spike. He's smart and brave and practical, too. Lots more healing vines are on the way. Has the vet said anything about the prognosis for his foot?

Lots and lots of :bighug::bighug::bighug:s

EVENING 4/18 UPDATE: He's eating about the same but not fighting me much to syringe feed a bit more. Foot still dangling but he's pulling it under him with the knee and hip. He does seem to have feeling in it - gives us 'SpikeA'Tude' when we mess with the bottom of it. It's also warm so circulation is good. He's gotten up and moved around much more often this afternoon. We cleaned his room good, new sheets/etc...brought him inside in a big kennel while we cleaned - he actually laid down then rolled on his back. We were both shocked. I grabbed camera and got a couple of pics of the belly wound and staples. It's not too gross. He IS improving emotionally, he's got his 'SpikeA'Tude' back.

Has the vet said anything about the prognosis for his foot?

Per vet and 'Dr. Lyresa', It's wait and see if his body can repair the nerve damage. He goes to my regular vet either Fri or Mon to get staples removed.

Here's the wound on his stomach, his head is to the left/up. That side shot end is the area I'm a bit concerned about. It looks very swollen in the pic but it's not, that's a skin ridge.

I'm sure all the L&L Land vines and the prayers and good thoughts from all your friends on FB are helping Spike to rally. So far, it sounds like things are progressing well (anti-jinx). We'll keep the prayers and vines flowing. Don't forget to take care of you, Lyresa! So many are depending on you. :bighug::bighug:

Just checking in again to see how Spike is coming along. Your updates sound positive Lyresa... I'm SOOO glad to see that!! Continued prayers, positive thoughts and healing vines being sent for Spike and for you! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

UPDATE 4/19 Afternoon:

We're beginning to see more of 'normal' Spike now. His stomach still looks VERY good, it looks to be healing well. He's peed fine but I'm still waiting for more poop..

The foot's still completely floppy but he's figuring out how to deal with it....sort of. That's our biggest concern now - what's going to need to happen with that. That decision won't need to be made right now tho'...need to give it time to attempt to return. He's now cleaning himself too! He gave us one HUGE grin this morning altho' it also scared the peadoodle out of us too. He clawed himself up his steps/tower onto his food shelf to see outside! (Second pic below!) I know it wasn't easy. I put him back down, he tried to go up again. I put him back up there and let him lay up there sitting with him until he'd seen enough. He has to jump to get down. After seeing that, we just finished building a carpeted ramp that hopefully he can navigate safely. He's going to fall until he adjusts to his new 'normal' - we both hate imagining that.

Sir Rusty (Ella Rusty Stu - fdmb) sent us a box of 'special' foods that Rusty had tired of. One of the cans was Hound & Gatos 'Pork'. I offered a bit to Spike, he dug in and ate more on his own that he's eaten since this happened!! Yep - grinning silly hoomans.

Day-by-day...keep it up sweet boy....keep it up.

There's a whole world rooting for you! BIG HUGE HUGS to everyone and today - YARD DANCE!!!!!!!

I am so pleased Lyresa that Spike is recovering well, hugs and prayers for continued daily improvements. He looks very bright eyed in that second photo, what a brave little solider he is :bighug::bighug::bighug:
prayers also for your poor neighbour :bighug:

This is a great report, Lyresa! You can't keep a good cat down, that's for sure. Here's hoping he'll be careful jumping up onto things! It's great that he likes the Hound & Gatos Pork. Rusty didn't much care for the other can of it that I bought!
Sending more healing vines,
:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sending more healing vines to Spike.
He does look pretty bright eyed in that second picture. I hope he'll learn to use the ramp for going up and down. Fingers crossed.
