Yesterday:

I was not prepared to see a 68 this morning. In fact, I'd been thinking last night that maybe this dose wasn't going to stick--he's had higher pmps numbers for two days now, and didn't drop all that low last night (well, okay, I didn't test until nearly +5, so maybe he did and I didn't see it--we stayed up way too late watching a movie). I honestly stood there for a few minutes staring at the meter this morning! I'd just been hoping it would be a green number...but really not that green! Anyway, I waited a half hour and then he was up to 84. On a day when I have to go to work, I'm not comfortable shooting anything under 70, but really even under 75 makes me a little nervous. The 84 made me happy.

Someone had a hairball yesterday ON MY BED. I think that's about the nastiest thing I've ever seen, and really did not make me happy. I know you can give them vaseline to help with getting hairballs to go through instead of coming back up, but how much and how often? I think we're having hairballs about twice a week now, which is generally unacceptable with a baby about to start crawling and a toddler. Truman doesn't like being brushed, and while Max likes being brushed, it tends to irritate his skin. Any suggestions?

Also...the Lantus vial I've been using was opened 3/6. So far it doesn't seem to have lost potency, and I'd hate to open a new one while we're just on the fat 0 dose--seems like a huge waste of money. Should I get a new one, or keep using this one until we get to an OTJ trial?

You need to do what you're comfortable with but it would be very hard for a cat to be hypo on that dose. Also keep in mind, you're shooting a number that's likely to be 2 hours away when Lantus actually begins to work.

If the Lantus doesn't seem to lose its potency, I'd continue to use it. Some cats (like Gabby) are very sensitive to the state of Lantus. If there are no floaties and Max's numbers still are looking good, then I'd presume the insulin is still viable. If you look at the Tilly document, they mention that people can get months and months of use out of their cartridge.

I can't help you out with the Vasoline. I know when I used some similar product, I used about a pea-sized amount. Hopefully, someone with more experience using this can chime in.

Great numbers! I can't comment on the Lantus since I used Levemir.

The hairball stuff... well, I used some hairball treats one time for BigMac and it worked a little too well. He had diarrhea and had trouble making it to the litterbox in time. I decided I liked cleaning up the hairballs way better than the poo. Now I do gentle finger combing and a little brushing to try an avoid too many hairballs.

Maybe with the vaseline you have better control over the amount used and it won't result in liqui-poo, the way those "treats" did.

I just read this again and realized I was no help what-so-ever. So I'll just cheer you on... Yeah, For Mindy and Max!

 CD! At least you made me laugh! I actually just ordered some Vetbasis this morning. Someone on the health forum suggested it as it has no sugar. Hopefully it'll work without the liquipoo! I would also rather clean up the hairball than the poo...well, as long as the hairball comes up BEFORE he eats and isn't on my bed, on the brand new quilt my mom gave me that she's been working on for 1.5 years. The other morning it came up right after breffis--NOT COOL. He was sitting on the half wall where he gets tested/fed, and then the entire can of Friskies came back out, splashing everywhere. Nearly as bad as finding the one on my bed (which thankfully was food free). And now I can't stand to even look at the can he barfed up, let alone smell it (which is saying a lot coming from a mom of little kids!). He won't be getting any chicken & salmon Friskies for quite some time!

Oh Mindy, having that come right up is just so darn nasty.
My chloe does that sometimes. Not even digested. Yuck.
Amazing numbers too for Max. Just so great.
Good luck with that hariball stuff.
Catch you tomorrow.

Can't believe your kitty didn't do what happens here occasionally. I know our house can't be the only one - sometimes I see a pile of regurgitated food (surrounding a hairball) and before I can get the cleaning supplies and return to the scene of the crime.... the hairball is strangely sitting there all alone. If you know what I mean. I try not to think about it too much....sigh...

Every time I read about kitties who are having pukus problems I am ever more glad for my AHRS (automatic hoark removal system... aka Boomer who comes running in joy whenever he hears the hoark signal)

Sorry about the quilt... was it ruined?
