Hi All. I woke up late today and Check's shot was 20 min. late. I thought morning bg was high, 'cause last shot had worn off already.
He was higher still, 7.5 later.
Shot this morning was odd. I couldn't get the F.5 correct in syringe, because of stubborn bubble, so tossed it out, and used new syringe.
Needle felt too close to my finger, when I tented him, and thought I hit him in skin, instead of middle of tent.
It did not go thru skin and out into finger.
Still, I didn't know if he got shot properly.
Now I'm suspicious that the second syringe was defective too and I didn't even get insulin in him at all.

Should I give shot at normal time...even tho it was late this morning and he's been high all day?

Hi, Barb,

I'm not a good resource for dose information -- but I will say that 20 minutes is not very late, since cats usually handle 15 minute swings well.

Someone more experienced will come along before shot time, but Lantus likes regularity. I think you could probably plan to give the shot tonight at +11.75 -- just five minutes after your normal shot time, or 15 minutes before your +12 from the late shot. (Gee, that's hard to express.)

I'm curious what kind of syringes you're using. I've had trouble with defective BDs recently.

Try not to worry too much. If you did give a "fur shot," a missed shot, Checkers will recover from that quickly.

Kathy, the ones I've been using are GNP, from Hocks, with the half u marking. It's very difficult to see air bubble in microdose. I'm afraid I shot an empty syringe. Nothing I can do about it now.

I have BD's without the half u marking, which I trust better, but then I'm guessing at F.5. Obvioulsy I didn't do well with either today. *sigh*
I ordered BD's with half u. Hope they get here soon.

I agree with Kathy, 20 minutes isn't very much. Since Checkers is not that low anyway, go ahead and shoot around your normal time. If it truly was some sort of fur shot... not sure from your explanation, (empty syringe shot?) :-D Then the 20 minutes early will be helpful to Checkers. (Edited to add: Unless the preshot is surprisingly low or something ...)

I was thinking if I gave it early, then tomorrow would be off too. So, will do it at normal time.

I meant if I had pushed syringe another hair farther, it would have come out the other side and into my finger.

Gees, flat is nice, but gees Checkers, how about flat lower.

Checkers reads condos looking for parties. He sure does like the pretty girls. Shadow has turned him into a party animal. :-D
He better get that bg down, if he wxpects to go to Max's party tomorrow. :-D

You should be fine at your normal shot time as CD said, unless he plunges.
Very flat yellow. Maybe Checkers might be gearing up for something.
We used the Monject syringes frm Hocks, I really liked those, They felt sturdy in my hands
and we use the Walmart Relion too.
I so understand how hard that airbubble s when you are microdosing.
I don't know youre methods but what I used to do was pull out at least 1.5u into the syringe, pull it out of the pen, get a little more air in so the bubble kind of releases.
Then I would twist the syringe, watching the drops, getting to the .5 mark. I found to have
less bubbles that way and at .5, you can't afford to have a big one.
I was also not very good with the tenting, pinching and sticking my finger in the middle to make a pocket.
I started to grab Max , just below and sides of the scruff, yank it up and went in parallel
to his body.
It felt like a great pocket in between. Funny when I started doing it that way, coincidence I am sure but his numbers came crashing down.

Did I confuse you enough? I hope not.

Actually, Randi, that is how I 'tent'. I just pull up the fur. This time I guess I just had the needle positioned wrong.

Tonite was weird. I swear he knows I'm helping him. At 15 minutes before shot time, I am normally testing him. Well tonite he was staring at me, as I was reading the paper. I looked at the clock, and sure enough, it was 7:15.
I got up off the couch, and he ran up onto his testing/shot table. :lol: He knew it was time.
He was lower than this afternoon anyway, but wow, 182 for a nadir? Yikes! And that was at +10
Hope my new syringes arrive soon.

I'm off to try to catch up on condos. My 'puter has been giving me problems today. Grrrr!
 
Sounds like something Shadow does to me all the time. Raja does it for the food but Shadow actually knows that twice a day after eating he gets his shot and comes to look for me. Never at any other snack or meal time...just AM and PM.
