4/14 Oberon AMPS 342 (8 U L), +3 322, +6 384 (0.75 R), +10.5 354, PMPS 343 (0.75 R), +2 335,+4.5 335

This darn cat isn't budging. I know the rule is no R at the same time as a dose increase, but what about midcycle? I could give some now. Or I could hold off and just do it at PMPS, assuming he still stays up.
 
I think you would be OK mid cycle R. The reason for not on an increase cycle is that some cats show a response on the first cycle. That's clearly not happening today. :rolleyes:
 
OK, 0.75 U of R on board. I'm actually wondering if I need to redo the scale again. Lately it seems like I haven't been getting much R action. Maybe if insulin resistance has increased (antibodies, glucose toxicity, or whatever), the R scale needs to be readjusted.

Yep, he's all over the place. This cat doesn't have new dose wonkiness, he just has wonkiness. :rolleyes: The good thing in all this is that so far (knock wood, anti-jinx, etc.) he's feeling fine. Eating and behaving normally and all that, and slowly regaining the weight he lost early on. I just worry about what this is doing to his kidney.

If I don't see some R action tonight I'll probably bump him up to 1 U next time and see what he does with that. 0.75 just doesn't seem to be doing much.

Hello Lisa! I just want to applaud you for the care you give Oberon. I see how much you test him and it's pretty extraordinary!

Just thinking out loud here. I have heard people here saying they noticed less bounces on Levemir vs Lantus. I don't want to outright recommend making the change since I don't have the experience of many others, but maybe it's something to consider? And if you have already discussed that with someone here then disregard my comment!

At any rate, I'm happy to hear that Oberon is feeling fine in the meantime.

Thanks! Something to consider, maybe, and I'd be interested to see what other people think. But since at least some of this is IAA, not just bounces, I'm not sure whether Levemir would make a difference.

The testing frequency is possible because there's two of us doing it and our schedules dovetail nicely. I stay up late and he gets up early, and we're mostly working from home, so we can routinely test every 3-4 hours. I'd love to be able to scale back a bit, but Oberon's dives are sometimes unexpected and I've had him drop 60-70 points per hour at times. So I get nervous with anything over about a 4 hour gap, even when he's running high numbers.

Does he only have one kidney? Or did you mean kidneys? Good luck with the extra R!

That makes sense! I figured it was more than one person or one superhuman lol

He had an ultrasound in September when he got a full workup for ketones, pancreatitis, etc. and they could only find one. :rolleyes: We don't know whether he lost one to high BG or something or whether he was just born without it. His renal bloodwork is fine so far, but I'm keeping an eye on it. So anything that might affect kidney function worries me a bit.

Are you feeding him lower phosphorus food? That could reduce the load on his kidneys.
