Yesterday was a yellow surf http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=68645
But I think today will be better! A bit of a steep drop for the first couple of hours, so I know we'll pay the penalty later today like we did yesterday.
I've send out inquiries to the manufacturers of the raw food that Neko eats requesting carb % and got the first reply back so I'm starting to get a better picture of the amount of carbs she is getting. The main one (Red Dog Blue Cat Deli) has max 2-3% veggies with all their proteins so I presume it is lower but am still waiting a reply. irRAWsistible is 5.5% for chicken and 3.5 for turkey but I know they have more veggies. Their product comes in small nuggets so I just use it as snack or supplement - not the main meal but it looks like it'll be a suitable LC food. Natural Instincts (this morning's meal) has no veggies but am still awaiting an answer. When I get all this together I'll post the numbers for anyone who wants to feed raw in western Canada.
This morning I had a visit from a friend of mine who used to work at the local animal shelter. We did an informal look at the teeth. Neko has never had a dental and I don't remember the vet looking at her teeth in her last wellness exam in December. A year before she had noticed a tiny bit of tartar in the back, which I had already noticed, but the teeth were otherwise fine. The informal check noticed a slightly darker pink around a couple of the canines, but they aren't warmer to the touch and definitely not red. I think I'll mention it to the vet when next I talk to her but I don't think it's an immediate concern. Neko has no problem ripping into raw chicken necks, so her mouth isn't sore, and I think over time they'll help keep her teeth clean. With all the kitties here seeing such improvements from dentals, it's something I've been thinking about.
