I dropped Trixie off at the vet at 6:15 this morning :sad: ...I miss the little fuzz butt already. She was (and always is) so super sweet and lovey dovey in the mornings...it was very difficult to poke her little ear, not give her a treat, then have hubby stuff her in a carrier. I do know she's in good hands, and they'll call me several times with updates. I can't wait till she's back home, though...

On the other hand, I may very well go back to bed and not set the alarm clock for the first time in months. I I spend this one day catching back up on sleep, I wonder how long the effect will last :lol: "

PS - Julie - From yesterday's condo, the reason Trixie couldn't eat after 8:00 last night was because of this morning's dental. She was fine with it; the rest of the herd was not so thrilled that they didn't get their bedtime snack.

Good luck with the dental. I know how hard it will be to not feel nervous until you hear from the vet saying that everything went well. Sounds like Trixie is in good hands. I'll be checking for an update. Enjoy your extra sleep!

Thanks for all the thoughts. I just got the first update from the vet. Trixie is under, and her teeth are cleaned up. She needs 7 extractions!!! I had no idea they were that bad...I feel horrible. She has a number of teeth that were broken off but the roots were still retained, so those all need to be removed, and she has one other tooth that needs to come out.

Gosh, I'm so nervous about her coming home now, with all these extractions. So much for catching up on sleep today....

I'd suggest getting some baby food. Gerber Stage 2 and Beechnut stage 1 are meat and broth only. You don't want anything with onions in it. The Gerber is higher in carbs due to cornstarch in the ingredients.

Remember to test when you get Trixie home. Also, please make sure they do not give Metacam for pain or Convenia as an antibiotic. The former has an FDA black box warning due to it's causing renal failure and the Convenia is an antibiotic that lasts 2 weeks (once it's in, you can't do anything if your cat has a reaction). Buprenex is good for pain management and Trixie will need something for pain.

Good luck with the dental Trixie! Amy, I just had a kitty who had all but one of his teeth removed due to stomatitis. He didn't feel well for a couple of days but is back to normal now. His teeth were probably in worse shape than Trixie's so she may not have such a rough time. I hope she will be ok. Try to catch up on your sleep and she will be home before you know it. :mrgreen:

Thanks for the food suggestions...I'll run out and get some baby food before I pick her up. Should I attempt her regular Food (Wellness Chicken and BG 96% Chicken), or just go with baby food for tonight?

I was adamanent about not using Metacam and Convenia...both when I made the appointment and when Trixie was in last week for her pre-dental work up. Fortunately the vet was very much on the same page, so I know there is no risk that either of these will be used on her. The vet said she'd be giving us Buprenex for the pain, and I can't remember for sure, but I think Clavamox was going to be the antibiotic.

I took off work tomorrow, so I can be home with her, but I'll probably have to work on Friday....

I'd see what she'll eat. The baby food will be easier. As much as some cats love the stuff, Gabby isn't that big of a fan.

Trixie is definitely not a finicky eater...she's a little hoover cat. I think it stems from the fact that she was nearly starved to death when she showed up on our back porch...she's willing to eat pretty much anything. I'll play it by ear...

Thinking positive thoughts and sending good vetty vines for Trixie's dental. I hope it will go smoothly. Rusty had 8 extractions last summer, while he was living with Phoebe. He gets along just fine without those teeth!
Maybe you'll be able to get in a short nap!!!

Thanks for all the support and good thoughts! I'm sure with all those broken teeth, Trixie was arleady in a fair amount of pain, so I'm confident that once she heals from this, she'll be one happy kitty. I'm a bit nervous about her after-care, but as always, we'll do whatever it is we have to do to help her along...

I just spoke with the vet that did the procedure...Trixie did great! The vet was completely surprised by all the roots that were retained; I guess upon initial examination, it was just assumed that the teeth had fallen out, but when they did the x-rays, they saw that the crowns had broken off but the roots were still there. So the roots are all gone now, and there was one other whole tooth that needed to come out. She has a few sutures that will fall out on their own, and for the moment she has an e-collar on. She's just starting to wake up, but she'll stay there through the afternoon at least, to make sure she's alert and well enough to be released.

They tested her BG while she was under; it was a perfect 97. That's my girl!

Phase I of worrying is now over; on to Phase II...after care. Still, I can't wait to have her back home and healed up.

Hi guys .. Im so glad that trixie did well during her dental .. I know the shock you felt when you heard she needed 7 extractions .. I felt the same way when we heard mocha needed 8!! But she came home and did fine .. back to her old self by the next day .. I know you are going to take extra good care of trixie tonight! have a great day!

That's just awesome, awesome, awesome that she made it through and she's ok. I bet you can't wait to get her back home and shower her with smooches and loves. I can only imagine how nervous you were. I'm sure i'll be the same when i can get dental done for Tommy too. I'll probably be running to you for moral support. That is if you've caught up on what seems to be much needed sleep.

wow, by the time i'm up and awake Trixie is done! woo-hoo!

the only thing i noticed with punkins 2 extractions is that he didn't want his chin scratched for a couple of days. well, and i have noticed that he's been drooling a little bit when he sleeps and he didn't before. i suppose the teeth that held the goobers in were the ones they removed. :-D

glad trixie is ok - she'll be home soon.

Awesome news today, Amy. I know it is so nervewracking. What a great AMBG and also BG under the "influence" :lol: :lol: :lol: I'm sure she will be so glad to be home. Good thing to give the bupe!!

Glad Trixie did well during the procedure but sorry she had so many extractions! Simon had 4 extractions last Friday and when I got him home, I attempted to feed him the baby food. He did not want it but when I put the Fancy Feast down, he ate it all up. So maybe Trixie will be able to eat the regular canned food. Simon also received the bupe and clavamox liquid. His BG has been up since he has been on the antibiotics so i will be curious to see how Trixie does. Her bg was so good so I am sure she probably won't have any noticeable changes in her numbers. I think Simon is just such a sensitive cat, he reacts to everything with higher bg's.

You will do great and it is a pain having to give all the meds, but it is only for a short time.

She's home! And, yes, the poor little kitsel is starving!! She ate a small quantity at the vet, and I just gave her a little bit after her "Welcome Home!" pokey test. She would love more, but I'm easing her back into it. I got some baby food as back up, but so far so good with the Wellness/BG mix.

They tested her a couple times while at the vet (to the tune of $58 for both - ouch!!) ...her poor little ears are bruised! Her 97 was at about +3, and she was at 256 at about +5.25. I was happy she didn't rise much past that.

So, so far so good, although she's only been home for half an hour. Hopefully we'll get her numbers back down soon...

Great news, Amy!! You'll do great during after care... if you can handle FD, you can handle that!! :) So glad they were able to do everything all at once too. And you're absolutely right... once Miss Trix is healed, she's just going to be a big furry ball of happy!!

Holy, moly did she take a dive or what? I think this is a record, even from her "old" diving days! I'll test again at 1.5, to see where things are really headed.

In the meantime, this cat is allll about the luv. With this +1, every time I went near her ears, she just started purring and rolling around :lol: ! I think she believes she's at Woodstock!!

Phew, no further drop...yet. She scared me with that +1! Still, I will test again at +2, to make sure she's slowed to a reasonable rate.

She does seem like quite the happy little camper, that's for sure - much to my relief! She's been just so stinkin' cute since she got home...rolling around for pettins, rolling around with toys, rolling around for ear pokes...

So Glad Trixie did so well today! I am happy for you! Moonie has had 9 teeth out in the last 2 yrs, & civvie had 5 out recently..Both did very well..both were on Bupe & Clavamox--You will see a big improvement
in Trixie's numbers & her demeanor--She will be Happy! Those bad teeth really hurt..

I'm glad Trixie is a happy, albeit a bit high on bupe, kitty! Please do keep an eye on her numbers. Anesthesia can have some delayed effects on BG

Hi guys - I am so glad that Trixie did well with her dental! Great news ! Sorry for the 7 extractions - but I bet she will feel so much better to have the bad teeth gone.

I would like to emphasize what Sienne wrote about anesthesia having a delayed effect on BG numbers. It did with Mannie's last dental - almost a day later, so keep an eye on Trixie's numbers.

She seems to be holding steady, but I will continue to monitor closely through the evening and tomorrow.

The vet actually took "before" and "after" pictures of her now-pearly whites and included them with her discharge papers...of course she was conked out with a tube down her throat, so they aren't the prettiest shots ever...but interesting.

Moonie - I would luv to join the choir!!! I have a bootiful voice that projects far an wide!!!! Sparklin' white grins to you! ~Trixie
