Also, if you’ve upped his food intake, that will impact the numbers as well. Is the vet just looking at his teeth or are they going to sedate him and do the dental tomorrow? Advanced vetty vines for Silver. I hope the vet visit goes well and he is back to feeling better soon. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

We don't know I anything is inflamed or infected. The tests were all clear. Not his teeth not his urine. There is a limit as to how much I could put him through with test after test after test. He had full blood panel; urine culture and I will get the pancreatitis test done. That's all we can do.

It's just an exam tomorrow along with blood draw for pancreatitis test. The exam will give me a quote so I know how much to save for the dental. They don't do them on weekends and I have no vacation days left that have not been booked for this year. Will cross that bridge after the exam.

If you have specific concerns make sure they clearly understand you. I mean eye contact and if you have to make them write it down.
If they offer tests you are unfamiliar with or do not feel are warranted start asking questions. They can be condescending.
If you board an animal with specific needs, even emotional ones, demand a note be left detailing what to do and what not to do.
They have an MRI in the basement and a payroll of well over a million dollars. They need to get that money back from somewhere.

I brought your comment over to the right day's condo. I'm very familiar with Mississauaga and Winston Churchill Boulevard. Which runs for miles and miles and has several vet clinics along that street including the excellent emergency clinic Silver just was at. Not too sure what your comment is trying to say. I have a good voice and am very well able to communicate my wishes to any vet. Hence me going in early to have a discussion tomorrow.

I was reading through previous posts & comments to try to catch up some more because I thought Silver did have a UTI. I know his urinalysis & culture were negative so I 'm curious as to why a UTI was suspected? Did he have symptoms? My concern is that often bacteria does not show on urinalysis & in my experience often doesn't even grow in culture so when I have a cat or dog who has symptoms I demand antibiotics anyway as a precaution and always after the course of antibiotics the symptoms are gone & the dog/cat is better. It is known that bacteria doesn't always grow in cultures & I haven't had a vet argue with me yet about giving antibiotics anyway based on symptoms. The one time I did not demand antibiotics ended up with Beau being hospitalized for 4 days at the ER vet in Toronto recently (same time as Silver) and Beau was in kidney failure likely due to a kidney infection even though he had several urinalysis & cultures done that came back negative since January, even the set the ER vet did :( But I asked the ER vet to send antibiotics home with Beau anyway & they agreed & so far his obvious symptoms are gone. Hopefully we can reverse some of the damage that was done to his kidneys. I'm so upset with myself now for listening to the vets & ignoring his symptoms & not demanding antibiotics before that happened because I could have saved him a lot of pain & kidney damage & saved myself thousands of dollars.

Regarding Pancreatitis, does Silver have any signs of that? You mentioned you're getting bloodwork done for pancreas so just curious. Something I'm cautious of is the Spec fPL test for pancreatitis. It's the best indication for that condition BUT my experience with that has been it can be false positive so when I get a Spec fPL result that indicates pancreatitis I always have an abdominal ultrasound done because there's been a couple times where that test came back positive but pancreatitis was not the problem. The problem was other organs were very unhealthy causing the pancreas to work over time. One of my sweet kitties about 5 years ago was treated for pancreatitis based on that test & we treated him for a while, kept rechecking the Spec fPL which kept increasing & my kitty was declining and again I didn't listen to my own intuition, I listened to the vet so by the time we did an ultrasound we found that every organ inside my kitty was riddled with cancer except his pancreas, it was the only healthy organ, so it was compensating for all the organs that were unhealthy so was throwing out more lipase into the blood which is what the Spec fPL picked up. I had asked about an ultrasound early on in his diagnosis & the vet said it wasn't necessary so I wasted precious time & money treating a condition he didn't even have & by the time they did the ultrasound his cancer was so bad I couldn't do anything to help him.

I always have a fairly large dog/cat family and I'm a person who gets a lot of testing done on them so that's why I've encountered these situations more often than others. It may seem uncommon to some but vets I speak to all agree with me about the fact that not all bacteria grows in cultures & that the Spec fPL can have false positives when other organs are damaged. Just a few things to keep in mind.

I'm sorry. I'm not a vet or a medical professional and have no clue as to the answers to your questions. At some point we have to trust the vet and I'll be going there tomorrow. I'm not comfortable demanding antibiotics if the vet does not believe they are necessary. As with humans, antibiotics are not always effective and too much can have the reverse effect. I am not the type to put any cat through procedure after procedure; test after test. It's not fair in my opinion. I will have a discussion with my vet tomorrow.
 
Still yellow. I wish I knew what was going on. I don't want to continue increasing insulin to no effect. Let's see what vet says tomorrow. And, given his pattern - I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't spending the day in pinks.
 
Ok that was a little weird. Bedtime test was 176 and I was first really pleased. Then I thought, you know, that's not his usual the past couple weeks, let me try again - and again - and both second and third times it was 218 and 220 - so bummer that. Guess no blue for me tonight.

Very very nervous about tomorrow - not so much the vet visit but the fact that its freezing rain all night, all day - an ice storm is predicted and this timid mouse doesn't want to get in her car and drive the two mins to the vet. Even without a yowling passenger. I need him to keep the appt. though. Dunno what I will do about that one.

Good luck at the vet tomorrow, vetty vines to Silver. :bighug: I hope they treat the roads and it’s a non issue, or better yet that the weather people are wrong as they so often are. ;)

Actually not wrong here - did you hear of the ice storm in Ontario in 2013? It was bad - had to cut through 1.5 inches of ice to get into my car - took 2 hrs. If we get another one of those - oh dear!

Send your weather prediction people down here then, please. Half the time they say we will get a big snow, it ends up raining, we get a dusting, or nothing happens at all. :joyful:

I hope you did not wake up to an ice mess.
 
You shouldn't need to skip work for a dental. Usually you drop kitty off as soon as they open and pick up late afternoon or right before they close.

In regards to increasing insulin to no effect. A couple of things; you just haven't reached the dose yet, kitty might be resistant to insulin, you don't know if Silver is hitting blue during the day, maybe the insulin itself isn't the right one this time. Might consider an abdominal ultrasound, it could pick up something that blood work doesn't.

Olive's ss looks like Silvers just with pink preshot. Olive just doesn't want to give them up or stay blue longer than a few hours. We do know she has a tumor (found on ultrasound) that is probably causing it but will never know the type as a biopsy is out of the question. So we keep increasing knowing she might always require treatment this way which is quite aggressive. She hasn't been on insulin long enough to do the resistance blood test yet. Cushings came back negative. She is better now than when she arrived, if this is the best it can be than so be it. She is happy, feeling good, not in pain and even starting to play now. Silver could be in similar situation, cause is unknown. He needs what he needs in dose. I don't think in terms of the dose # anymore. It is what it is. Resigned to the fact she is high dose and it will go higher. Her overall demeanor is what I consider now. Just food for thought here.
