I'm considering switiching to a different meter.... What meter do you use? What is the cost of the strips per cannister (50 strips)?

I'm using the One Touch Ultra now....$35/cannister of 50 strips at Hocks or around $27 on ebay.

Bought the Arkray Glucocard 01 which is the generic brand of Relion Confirm. It tests lower than the One Touch and much lower on the low end. Had two different readings on the first night of use.....One Touch sd 57 and the Glucocard said 37..... Not sure I can trust it especially when Curry's numbers are low.

Thanks in advance for sharing your choice of meters.

(And yes I know that my SS is not competely up to date right now....gave myself wet noodles this morning)
 
I use the Relion Micro from Walmart ($19.99) and the strips are $22 for 50. They are easy to get and since sometimes it can take me up to 3 or 4 strips at each test to get a readable sample, I need something cheap. I recently tested it against my vet's Alphatrak and they were only about 25 points off from each other, not the 25-30% difference that Alphatrak claims. I've really liked it. It uses a very small sample size and only take 7 seconds to read. I was able to get him OTJ a couple of years ago using this meter.
 
I use the One Touch Ultra, too. I have nothing else to compare it to, but I've been happy with it. The strips are pricey, though.
 
The Reli0n Micro has gone down in price: it is now $9. at Walmart. The strips are $20 for a box of 50. I have both the Micro and the FreeStyle Lite, which I bought recently online at American Diabetes Wholesale: http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/ The meter kit (which includes 60 strips: 10 as part of the kit and an additional box of 50) was $34.99. A box of 50 strips is $26.99. Shipping is very fast and free with orders over $100. I have tested the ReliOn Micro and FreeStyle Lite against each other with the same drop of Rusty's blood and the readings were identical. I have also tested them on myself and their readings were very close. Both take a very small drop of blood. I have a slight preference for the Free Style Lite because it is faster and it won't give a reading if the blood sample is too small (some meters give whacky readings if the sample is too small). Also, you can add blood to the strip within 1 minute, so if you don't have enough blood for a reading, you don't waste another strip.

I have lots of meters but I have found the accu check aviva to work for us--50 strips are bet. $20-24 a container, on amazon.com--I would look on amazon for strips, as they compare many prices--Have a good day!
 
I used the Relion Confirm from Walmart and it's $9. The strips are $20 for 50 or $39 for 100. It's worked great for me and I love how little blood it needs. The best part is how easy it is to get the strips when you need them.

i use the freestyle lite also - love it. the strips are $27ish from Hocks for 50 - the meter reads a very tiny sample. if you have bad luck and not enough blood from the first poke there is plenty of time to repoke to get more blood without having to use another test strip.

the nearest walmart to us is a half hour drive, so i'm not interested in their stuff, but Hocks arrives handy dandy in the mail.
 
Tena: I use the OT Ultra Mini and LOVE it. Being a recovering member of Glucometer Addicts Anonymous (GAA)....Maggie's bean, Ann, is my sponsor....I have returned the Freestyle Lite to ADW....I didn't like it at all. It was not consistent except that it consistently ran much lower than my OT and my backup Contour (told you about GAA right? :lol: :lol: :lol: ). I know the OT strips are more expensive but I've gotten some awesome deals on ebay for it and also the Contour. The Contour always runs higher than my OT. I compared them to my vet's AlphaTrak: the Contour was about 30 higher than the AT, the OT was 30 lower (which figures).

So funny that you are thinking of switching because we've been talking about LL peeps and their propensity to meter shop :lol: :lol: :lol: I'm keeping my OT!
 
I use the Accu-chek Aviva - meter was free and I get 100 strips for $49-52 from Ebay - never had a problem with the strips and Accu-chek sent me the control solutions with 10 strips for free when i called to ask them about the control solutions. I've been very happy with it.
 
I've gone back to the Maxima. Strips are even cheaper than the Relion, $16.50 at Hocks. Technically the meter has been discontinued, but strips are still being made. ADW has the meter still (I just ordered a backup) Hocks doesn't.

I've tested it against a OT and they were the same from the same drop of blood. I haven't compared lately, because Marjorie keeps beating me out on the deals on eBay. :lol: :lol:

If you know you want to use it long term you can order the strips directly from the mfg, for only $11/50 strips if you order a case of 24 boxes. PM me and i can give you the reps. phone number.
 
I use the Relion Confirm, $9 at Walmart, strips are $20/50 strips, $36/100 strips. I've used it from the beginning, after lurking here on FDMB and seeing everyone's feedback on meters....it was the most popular choice. I have to drive 45 minutes to anywhere to get anything, so it doesn't matter that it isn't convenient! :razz:

I also own a Bayer Contour and a Freestyle Lite...I've checked each of them against my Relion at a number around 80-90...the Contour read about 15 pts higher, the Freestyle Lite was 1 pt higher.

I'll stick with my Relion....it's worked well for me up to this point, and I see no reason to change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I use the Maxima, back up meters are the one touch ultra and the freestyle lite. Ditto on what Ann said about the maxima. Just don't get the Infinity - it runs consistently 20% higher. nice meter, but high numbers.
