Another pink preshot this morning. I would think he would have cleared this last bounce but he is being stubborn! Maybe I angered the antibodies? nailbite_smile I saw him drinking water this morning, which I haven't seen in a few months, so I was a bit concerned about that - hence the larger dose of R...get those numbers down!

I'm going to call this week to get an estimate for a dental for Cobb. I know he needs two teeth pulled. I hope that decreases his insulin need a bit.

Well...we are going to bite the bullet this coming weekend and pack Cobb up for a road trip. nailbite_smile We're going to see my parents for Easter. I told Matt there was going to have to be a first time because we can't stay home forever! Any tips? We are nervous...a baby, a cat, a 4-hour drive...

Happy Sunday to everyone! It's going to be a great week!!

Re: 4/13 Cobb AMPS 310(1R)

Hi Suzanne,

I hope the R will bring Cobb down to better numbers today.

What kind of car do you have? We have a small SUV (Subaru Forester) and Rusty does well in it, riding free. We line the back (seats down) with newspaper, so that if he vomits we can simply tear off that section of newspaper. We have a litterbox way in back, by the hatch. We make sure there is a clear path to the litterbox through the luggage. We carry plastic bags, paper towels. We leave the door to his carrier open and he will often go into it to sleep. We carry a small cooler with some food for the trip (which he never eats), a small dish to fill with water during the rest stops (from a water bottle that we always carry in the car).
We carry his insulin in a small box, well wrapped in newspaper for insulation and placed at the bottom of the cooler. We keep a small, zipper-pull thermometer inside the box. It is important not to let the cooling blocks come into direct contact with the insulin. We always bring more syringes than we will need, just to be sure we don't run out. Rusty wears a collar with his contact numbers on it during a trip, again just to be safe. For future trips you might consider getting him a Road ID, which are now available for cats and dogs. http://www.roadid.com. If I think of more tips I'll let you know. Patty (Merlin) has a great Google document on traveling and camping with special needs cats. I'll send you the URL later, when I get to my computer, where I have it bookmarked (I'm on my iPad now).

A trip with Cobb and Matty will be a challenge, but you'll learn a lot!!

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 4/13 Cobb AMPS 310(1R) +2 323

Cobb, your bean is really stressed out with the high numbers, water intake, and upcoming road trip. Please help her out by coming down into some pretty numbers today, ya hear?

We did pretty much everything Ella mentioned when we traveled with Jersey a couple of weeks ago. She had a litter box in the backseat floorboard of the car and a bowl of water in the other backseat floorboard. We took a tiny cooler for her insulin. We wrapped the insulin in a kitchen towel to help protect it. Jersey had free reign in the car. She would occasionally poke her head in between the front seats, but she mainly stayed in her carrier.

Sending calming vines your way today, Suzanne!

Thanks Ella!

Well, I have no idea what is going on. I started a new vial of Lantus and got Cobb's IAA diagnosis and coincidentally, his numbers get bad? Higher than they've been in weeks?

I'm wondering if it is the Lantus. There are no floaties and it's clear. But I am looking for an explainable reason for the worsening numbers. We're going to use some of the Lantus from one of our pens.

So I'm trying a new pen tonight to see if I can make sense out of these numbers. Maybe the insulin is bad? I don't know. I'm not happy though. I haven't seen this much pink that wasn't bounce induced since February. Not happy. :-x

Good luck with the pen. I hate it when you get numbers that are out of normal and can't figure out why. :-x Come on down Cobb!

Neko went on a nice long trip to Fort Collins for her SRT. Three days in a row each way, of about 8-9 hours driving each day. Enough that we even had to do testing in the car, and feeding, cause she went low a couple of inconvenient times. I have a sedan with a split seat in the back. I put Neko's LB in the back trunk along with one of her favorite beds and put her carrier in the back seat. We started with her in the carrier - at least until we crossed the border. After that, we opened the carrier door because she had peed on the bedding. Like Rusty, she would spend some time in the carrier when she wanted to rest (after I'd cleaned up) and some elsewhere. She occasionally went into the back trunk and slept in her bed. Before the CSU trip, Neko hated traveling the 10 minutes to the vet so I wasn't looking forward to the trip. I put Rescue Remedy for Pets on her morning meal and sprayed the inside of her carrier with Feliway each morning before we started. Not sure what did the trick, but Neko is a much better traveler now.

One of our members Lisa, had to commute each week about 4 hours to work and took her Leo with her. Her are the travel tips she wrote.

we also drove to Ft. Collins with punkin and anya - 21 hrs each way. we kept the litter box behind the front passenger seat and punkin and anya snuggled on the other side under the driver's seat. they did fine. i also used Rescue Remedy - it's an herbal preparation available at pet stores. i bought ours at a locally owned pet store - but i suspect the chains would carry it.

the biggest thing is to be careful when anyone opens a door. we got punkin and anya corralled before we opened doors.

i'm glad you're trying out a pen, just to see if it's the insulin. after a couple more shots, if you don't see the new pen makes a difference, i'd increase again. you've had 8 shots at this dose and he only went into blues one night. it's always hard to tell if it's the insulin or he just needs more, so trying out the new pen will tell you.
