Yesterday's Condo

Well last night was another fail. I was trying to do too many things at once and forgot to pick up Crystals food, which was duck. I don't know for sure if Sammy got any, but based on this morning I am going to assume he got a bit. I am hoping that if that was the case once it is worked out of his system he will come back down.

I will remove food at +9 (or so today) to see how the PMBG is. Hopefully that will help.

Another busy day getting ready to leave for Knit Camp.

Day nine already! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

When you get a number like that, out of the normal range, it's a good idea to check again in about 3 hours to make sure it's come down.

@Vyktors Mum Thanks for the reminder. I was planning on checking, but lost track of time until I sat down to read posts. I just tested him at +3.5 and he was 98. I am hoping he will stay in the free right through the PMBG test.

BTW, I was pretty sure it was residual effect from the duck yesterday. But I couldn't be 100% sure because I didn't actually see him eat it.

@tiffmaxee Yes, I am very happy that he is coming down on his own, but I am still worried that he is going up so much. I am trying not to worry too much about those higher numbers.

That 98 looks much better Sammy. Try having that number first thing tomorrow can't you so your bean doesn't have to wait and worry especially while she's so busy! And stop stealing the contraband - look what it does to you!!

Still looking good on Day 9 even with the forbidden food! :D :D :D

Come on Sammy just a few more days you can make it. I think it is always more stressful for the bean than it is for them. They just keep on doing their own thing.

Well, I pulled the food at +8.5 and it looks like it was a worse situation. I also tested at +8.5 just to see if he dropped, but he actually surfed from +8.5 to PMBG. In the past, when I have tested just one hour before PMBG he has dropped when food was not withheld.

So I think I just need to leave food out for at will eating.

I am starting to wonder if we are going to need to go back on insulin. At what point would you flip the switch?

What are you doing up there Sammy? Get back down into green numbers right now, you hear me?

I'm never sure on the whole food question. I've stopped taking Rosa's food away at her old +10 as the higher numbers the first couple of mornings came down after she ate. And I figured if I'm not giving a shot it wouldn't matter if her BG readings were food influenced anyway. I might give it a try feeding him as you were right before you started taking his food away just to see whether that's the case for Sammy too. If that brings his numbers down then he still might not need the insulin - he might just need to be completely free-fed.

Well, I'm more aggressive than most, but I used to flip the switch at around 140. However, what's more important than a single number is if you're seeing an upwards trend. I think that's what's beginning to happen. I also think you might have been a bit hasty in dropping that 0.1u dose before the depot of the previous dose had depleted. If I were in your shoes I would see how things go tonight... maybe even tomorrow (depending on the numbers). If you continue to see an upwards trend I would resume the 0.1u dose sooner rather than later. It's easier to get back on track that way.

And most of all, don't freak out. Sammy is very, very close to going OTJ. He might just need a little bit more help for a short period of time...

@Jill & Alex (GA) I just tested again and he is at 175. He isn't rising fast but definitel rising. My biggest problem is I am leaving early Wednesday morning to go to a retreat for 12 days. I have the opportunity to take Sammy with me if he is on insulin, but I was really hoping to be able to leave him home.

I don't want to wait to get him back on insulin if that is the best thing. I can deal with everything else.

My one concern is is it an infection that has caused him to start to rise again? I would hate to abort the trial and then find out it is an infection.

I have an appointment Tuesday evening to get more blood work but I am wondering if I should wait that long to get the insulin stared again.

I'm not following. Whether it's an infection or something else causing numbers to rise... if the numbers continue to rise he'll need to resume insulin.

That's a judgement call. I think you'll have to see how things go tonight and maybe tomorrow.

Strictly a personal point of view...
If things remain "iffy" between now and leaving for the retreat... I'd take him and all his insulin paraphernalia with me. I wouldn't want to come home 12 days later to the possibility that he's been hanging out in high numbers for a week or more, but that's just me. I found it was much easier to get Alex back on track if I didn't hesitate to give her insulin when and if she needed it.
