Hi. I saw in another post you started levothyroxine. I went all the way back until I could find where Fritz was diagnosed. I don't think he has hyperthyroidism. When do you plan to re-test his thyroid values? Have you seen any changes?

My cat Tanner is hypothyroid .. was hyperthyroid for a few years before I tried the i131, which led to the hypothyroidism.

Thank you for taking the time to find my post! My holistic vet put him on levothyroxine as she said his T4 was low and since he is 28lbs. I really would appreciate any advice or input you can give. I think Fritz is hypothyroid what tests does he need? I have his current BW on his lab tab. I have only seen slight changes his LB deposits are more normal and most days he is a bit more alert. No weight loss:banghead::arghh:
I feed him a total of 4 to 5 ounces of raw rabbit venison and quail. Homemade with supplements from Alnutrin.
Do you treat Tanner with anything for the hypothyrid? is he over weight?

It looks like his T4 was 2.2 before starting the levothyroxine. How long has he been on the meds? It's recommended to test again at 3-4 weeks to see where the T4 level is at. Really, a normal T4 is between ~2 and 3.5, I believe. Tanner was hyperT for years so he has always been petite at 8-9 pounds. I put him on meds, which is Armour now, as soon as I realized he went hypoT after the i131. He never got the chance to gain weight like some hypoT cats. If you suspect your kitty is hypoT, you need to get a full thyroid panel, which consists of T4, free T4, T3, free T3, and TSH. IDEXX does not do TSH so you need to go with MSU, Antech, or Hemopet. I use Hemopet. However, that would need to be done when the cat is not on any meds for at least a week.

I checked and the normal T4 should be 1.5 to 2.5. Are you on Facebook? There's a group I belong to for Tanner.

When I said the test needs to be done when the cat is not on any meds for at least a week, I meant the thyroid meds only. I posted in Facebook about your cat (no names), and the first thing that came up was diabetes. LOL Maybe the diabetes is causing the lethargy and other issues. PM me if you want to check out the FB group (mostly for hyperthyroid cats) or I can give you the link to another Yahoo group that specializes in hypothyroid cats.
