Max finally pooped last night around 8:00. His BG continues to go in the wrong direction, sigh. I will increase to the F1.75 but doubt it will be enough. I hope that I am wrong. I don't know why he is not responding to the insulin. He did his usual meowing since 5 wanting food this morning but I ignored him. He just got his amlodipine and miralax with his baby food chaser and his insulin with cat food comes next. Wish us luck that he responds. Thanks.

Hi guys .. glad to hear max poo'd for you last night! Try not to be frustrated you haven't found the breakthrough dose yet .. we were over 3U with mocha before we saw any real action .. have a great weekend!

So I'm thinking that if Max doesn't do better by next week it is time for blood tests to see if something is effecting him in addition to diabetes. If it is pancreatitis I don't know that I would change anything. He was eating lower phosphorus food before so I hope it's not the beginning of CKD. It's been almost 5 months since his last labs and I usually do it every 4 mostly because he would have a panc attack. His only symptoms were inappetence and maybe being even more lethargic than normal. Most of the time his appetite has been good and he has gained weight which doesn't point to pancreatitis. I need to weigh him tomorrow before he eats. Hopefully he has lost a few ounces.

my understanding is that once the cat has had a higher number on the spec fPl test for pancreatitis, it doesn't come down. i'm not positive about that though, and will double check with marje. Punkin's first test came in at 11.6 (over 5.3 = pancreatitis) and every test after that came in at 12. i only saw symptoms with the first test.

he may come down tonight, elise. that'll be 3 days since the last green. i mentioned to Suzanne/Cobb just now that punkin lost his "familiarity" with greens very easily and would return to being bouncy. Max still looks bouncy and i wonder if these current highs are a bounce.

somehow we need a dose just a hair under 2.0 for him. it always seems too much, but overall, he seems to need close to that.

what did you decide about trying calipers?

Hi Julie. You said if he had 2 more shots without green to up him to just under 2 units so I did that this morning. It's when he gets 2 units that he drops too low. As for the fPL they can test normal after bouts. You just have to catch it when they are doing really well. Max has tested as high as 50 twice!! He didn't act much different than when he had a 12 or 25 though. We have found on the pancreatitis list that the number doesn't necessarily jive with how sick they act. Strange, isn't it? I might try the calipers. The store is about 30-45 minutes away if I time it right with traffic, so it isn't too bad. I think I will google them and see if other places have them.

Wouldn't it be odd to bounce from a 99? Of course who is to say Max isn't odd. :lol:

cats can even bounce from yellows if they are used to red/black numbers.

on his ss it says that he got a f1.75 this morning. i know he drops like a rock on 2.0. you mentioned the other day about thinking he was one of those kitties who is very sensitive to tiny amounts of insulin, that's why i was asking about calipers. i have seen some bouncy cats flatten out when the doses started being measured with the calipers. it's ridiculous that the markings on syringes aren't more accurate.

i did give a f1.75 as I thought that was what Marje said to do. My fault. I guess you mean hit it just under the 2 though. I will do that tonight but how do I record it.?

I did say he might be sensitive and agree that I probably should get the calipers soon to see if that helps.

i think since you've gone to a f1.75 this morning, i'd hold it for a few cycles to see what it does. it's fine - we know he needs a dose somewhere in the vicinity!

Okay and thanks, Julie. If I need to go up from there which I think I will and do a little less than 2 units, how do I record it on the ss?

Hi Elise, I would probably call that dose a skinny 2.0 if it's somewhere between your f1.75 and a normal 2.0

Well, he's still mellow yellow although he did eat about 1/2 hour ago but that shouldn't have made much of a difference based upon all my previous testing. I might let him be for tonight unless I decide to do a +5 to see if anything is happening with this small increase. It might not be enough to do anything.

It just occurred to me that there has not been poop again today. This is not good. He always does except this week. What's up with that?

Max - enough of the mellow yellow! I hope he slides down for you overnight. And poops too. My kitties are on a raw diet so are usually every other day so I have a hard time keeping track of who did what. I presume Max is still eating the same food? Have a good sleep.
 
Yes, Max still gets fancy feast. I read it doesn't contain the best fiber though. He never had a pooping problem so I might look into changing his food. Thanks Wendy.
