It's a pink, but it's almost a yellow! That's great!

It might take a while for the mid-cycle numbers to come down, so don't worry so much about those right yet. The PS values are what we're watching right now, hopefully you are done with hi/black.

What I would recommend is completing the food change and holding the dose for 5 days afterwards, at the least. Cutting out the carbs will probably lower BG, we still want at least +6 checks for both cycles if possible. In the very beginning you had some pretty dramatic drops on .25u-.5u, we're hoping that kind of activity returns. If it does, we need the tests to know because Sam may actually be a micro-dose kitty like my Kitten, and the tests are the only way to tell.

You're doing great though!!!

Thanks for the support!
I just tested Sam +6 and he is still a bit high 338 :/ but it will take time for his body to get used to the new dose right so I won't freak out just yet :D

Right, he needs time. Another thing is that the two tests today are basically the same number as far as we are concerned. If you tested his blood and retested even one second later the numbers you got could be up to 20% different because the meter has an error of 20%. This means he could be within around 60 points each way of a 300. So today so far, he has basically held steady even with food. That's great. Hope PMPS is alright tonight as well. Even if he just stays pretty flat for the next week that is fine, since his BG has been very high lately it might take a while for him to start having curves. What is hopefully going to happen is you will stop getting super high numbers, the 300's are not a bad place to be and they are much healthier for him than bouncing from 150-600+.

true. You are so smart Cathy :D Things are finally making more sense now since I read that article yesterday, not that no one advised me to lower the dose cause peple sure did, and I tried (but not long enough) but I just couldn't understand things!
I will keep you posted what he tests tonight :D

I find it works better to explain something in depth, if you don't understand something it can be hard to believe it!

I will be waiting for a good number!

Don't be too discouraged, I know quick results are always better, but it's not a black and it's not a hi. Lets get through the rest of the week and when you get your cat food supplies you can make him some food to help. I know how hard it is to see these numbers. It is a very helpless feeling to be doing all you can and still have a kitty you love who isn't doing as well as you hoped. I think cats somehow know what is going on. Kitten before diabetes was a different cat, she didn't spend much time with us. Now if there is a lap available, she's in it and purring. I'm sure Sam knows that you've been trying really hard, and loves you even more for it, you just need a little more time to figure out the best way to treat him.

On a lighter note, I'm off to give a cat an enema.....

I know you must be bummed about your AMPS.

A little more info for you: If a cat sees high enough numbers for even a few days, the ability to use insulin can be much diminished. Sam has had some really high days lately, and you may be seeing some temporary resistance from that. The safest way to break this resistance is to lower the carb content of the food, which you are about to do and thought of all on your own! I am hoping that once you get him on the raw diet and these hormones clear he will start showing a better response to the insulin again. I know the 400's are not where you want to be but they are much less damaging to him than the hi readings you have been getting or even a hypo crisis. I know it's hard, but just keep doing what you're doing, it's the best thing for him!

Thank you CAthy I so appreciate you sharing more valuable information :]
I can't wait for the supplements to get get here. I hope it's really a temporary resistance, and hope once he is on the raw diet it won't take too long for his system to accept insulin again!
I'm just a little nervous because I'm going out of town in a little less than 1 month. :-|

Hopefully in a month we will be able to get him into a more stable pattern, I know how you feel though. I have yet to go out of town since the beginning of the year, between Ms. Kitten and her multiple feedings and my other "old man" kitty I feel a little worried about leaving. No diabetes anymore, but now have the old constipated kitty, just when I think he's alright he gets stopped up again and starts loosing breakfast, lunch, and dinner all over the house! If it's not one d*mn thing, it's another, as my mother always said.

haha your mom is right about that! There is always something to get in the way!
Sam seems to be starving all the time!! He always wants food. I leave some for him before I go to bed but if my other cat doesn't eat it he doesn't' save it for later so he meows in the middle of the night, I get up and feed him. I feel like I have a baby and need to breast feed lol he is definitely helping me prepare for motherhood!
So fine I can find a vet tech to come by 2x a day to test and give his shot, maybe a neighbor to stop by in the middle of the day to feed them, but no one will be at night. Plus I wonder if the person giving the shot will really come 2 x a day :( I need a miracle!!!

Maybe you can find another member in the Salt Lake area who wouldn't mind watching him for you? Search through the members geographically or put up a post in general health if you'd be interested in looking into that option.

As for the food, unregulated diabetics are always hungry because their bodies can not convert the food into energy properly. As long as he's not loosing weight he's fine, and the hunger will resolve when he gets better regulated. Kitten was constantly getting stepped on because she rushed into the kitchen if she suspected you were planning on eating, and now she barely finishes 3.5oz of food a day and always leaves some food in the bowl for later.

what a great idea! I will look for members in my area :]
He did loose some weight but he was a bit chubby so the vet was actually happy with it :D I wish my other cat would loose some..!
Oh I meant to ask how long have you been giving enema on your cats? i was just curious to know how the react :D

Just remember, he's probably still got a lot of hormones in his blood. A 100 point drop isn't bad 2 days into a decrease.

The enemas? He's not too thrilled about them, but it's a lot less traumatic than the manual clean out. I think we've been fighting this about 3 weeks now, just trying to find the right combo of food and miralax at this point. Ended up at the ER one night because we thought he was about to leave us, turned out he just had a big poo ball stuck in his butt. A $300 poo ball, my husband asked if he could have it bronzed so he could show everyone what a $300 turd looked like. Men.

  wow I'm laughing so hard at what your husband said!!! That was surely expensive!!
Poor Kittie, good thing he is doing much better :] anything to avoid this expensive turd so kept up the good work

Sorry, been at work all day.

Lu,, the reduction was done because Sam was started at .5 and was dropping from red PS to green nadirs, and had some really low ps numbers. the dose wasn't held but increased rather quickly in an attempt to deal with bouncy PS's. With the blacks and high PS's last week we wanted to make sure Sam wasn't on too high of a dose and rebounding. Since he's being switched to zero carb also, the hope is we see what that does with the reduced dose and go from there.

Glad you got your supplies, hope the food gives you some changes!

Okay - clearly I missed by not keeping up w/ the posts. Thanks for the update!

I'll be curious to know how the raw diet goes over (and how long it takes to prep it).

The food is not hard to make, but it does take time. I make about a months worth at a time and the pulling of the raw chicken and grinding and mixing takes about an hour.luckily I like cooking.
