Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Yellow!!

What a beautiful thing to see on this Monday morning! Way to go Bev (and Gus too, hee, hee!)

I'm doing a happy dance for you. There is still a long way to travel, but this is a great sign!

Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Yellow!!

Such happy news!! Go Gus!! So true on FD teaching patience. I joke that I have to put my patience pants on... Marjorie says we can get them at Chico's, so I'm looking for a coupon.

Gus will probably bounce off this new low... if he does, don't be discouraged. It's all part of the process (or, as we call it, Liver Training School, or LTS).

Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Yellow!!

isn't that great news!?! you're seeing progress - and really, this seems pretty fast to me. how encouraging

it's a marathon not a sprint! it's a marathon not a sprint! (repeat as necessary)

Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Yellow!! New Picture

To celebrate...Gus let me post his picture. I was trying to decide which pic to use so I was thumbing thru a bunch from pre-diagnosis. I never noticed at the time but he a little more than chubby! It must have happened so gradually that over the course of time, he just looked normal. No wonder he got FD!? Avatar is from yesterday. Thanks everyone for helping Gus. What a great feeling to have a group like all of you behind the hard times and the good ones.

Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Yellow!! New Picture

:RAHCAT congrats on the yellow!!! yay!!! this is the start of a long road....one of patience for sure...but stay the course and you will learn the dance with FD....we all do...whether we like it or not :)

nice picture of Gus! he is handsome!!!

Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Bounce!!

I think this is the 'bounce' I've heard so much about. Am I right? I'll read up on it because although this is the first for us, I'm sure it won't be the last. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Next.

Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Bounce!!

Yes, Houston. We have lift off!

A bounce is a result of the liver panicking. Gus is so used to being in high numbers that his body considers the highs "normal." When numbers drop lower or drop quickly, the liver reacts in a protective manner and releases a stored form of glucose and counterregulatory hormones which spikes BG up. This is a normal process. That's the good news. The bad news is that it can take up to 72 hours for a bounce to clear.

Re: 4/11 Gus +3 268 1st Bounce!!

I nearly posted that I would expect a bounce but I didn't want to jinx you! Gotta retrain that liver. ;-)

Finally getting here to tell you, Bev, how happy I am to see Gus coming down!!! Fantastic!!! This is such an awesome thing! And yes, the bounces can take 72 hours (six cycles). I've learned the hard way that you want to wait it out ...boy is that tough!!  Hoping for great things for Gus the next few cycles....maybe he'll clear fast.
