Good afternoon,

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=116956&p=1228238#p1228238

Rocky's BG is heading down again, fast.. ohmygod_smile .. At AMPS +4 he is 72 and I just fed him 1/4 can of FF Classic Chicken w/ (1) measured "smidgen" of Karo. I don't understand what is happening.

I don't think most people on FDMD would feed their cat LC food at an unscheduled time if their cat had a BG of 72.. but Rocky's dives scare me. This LC food could bump his BG up to 200 or higher, but I'd actually be OK with that today.

I don't know what I'm going to do about him tomorrow. I am scheduled to take 3 more kittens to be vetted up at the sanctuary tomorrow and it is NEVER a "drop them off" and get out of their quick event.

I'm not feeling well today. Actually, I broke out in hives and developed a super horrible migraine headache while waiting to speak at city council chambers last night. That headache and hives are still with me right now. I feel like everyone was unhappy at the meeting, except for me, and that there were a lot of angry thought daggers being thrown around.

Well, let's see what his numbers do for the rest of the day, but should I consider dropping him to 1.75u for his evening insulin shot?

(P.S... The "e" on my laptop keeps getting stuck so is sometimes missing when I type and send fast.)

I disagree. Whether or not you feed depends on the context. Feeding some LC when you're seeing the kind of drop frm AMPS to +4 makes perfect sense. In fact, I would have probably fed LC and retested in 30 min. to see where numbers were heading and then decide whether to feed more LC or add some HC. Safety is always an overriding factor. You want to do what you need to do to keep Rocky in good numbers and if giving some food will put him on a surfboard, then that's what you do. Remember, ECID and you need to know your cat.

Hi Sienna, thanks for the reply.

Yah! That little bit of LC FF Classic Chicken w/ (1) measured smidgen of Karo DID bump him up only 1/2 hour later from 72 to 91. I feel better now.

It may mean that Rocky is in high 200s, maybe 300(?) by his PMPS time, but I am Ok with that today.

i agree with sienne - it makes absolute sense to feed lc when you want to stop a drop or hold up a nadir and prevent a reduction. you're not the only person who is trying to steer a curve with food. it's a successful technique for many cats.

good call. Rocky's ss has definitely been improving.
