ETA: Yikes, TWO drops left, see bottom.

Fed all chicken overnight, no beef, and got this pretty green AMPS. :-D

At least we THINK that's what our target dose is called! I keep looking at the photos of microdoses... Are we at .25 now? .3? .2? We'll take out a drop and see what's left. We kept the old vial of Lantus when we started a new one, so we'll count out the drops as practice.

Happy Caturday!

ETA: Maybe someone can give me advice on shooting .1. I know I'm supposed to hold down the plunger as I withdraw it, but the last two times I tried that, my technique was poor. I tilted the syringe on withdrawal, instead of pulling it straight out. I don't want to hurt him!

Any suggestions?

Re: 4/10 Kitty AMPS 93 - Dosecrease to .1 tonight!

I have to say, I am excited!!

I am also nervous about shooting one drop. Also, DH has always pulled back on the plunger before shooting, to be sure he hasn't hit any blood lines. I wonder if, with just a drop, that's not a good thing to do now.

Some of you OTJ trial people, I may stop by to prod you for information!!

p.s. Forgot to mention above: We started ANOTHER new vial yesterday morning. Our refrigerator busted AGAIN. The light stayed on all night, baking everything in it to a toasty 80 degrees. We replaced the insulin.

Re: 4/10 Kitty AMPS 93, Down to .1 tonight! Syringe qstn

I have no micro-doses advice. Sorry.

BUT ONE DROP??????? Woohoo Kitty!!!!!!! flip_cat

Sorry about your fridge...that stinks!

Re: 4/10 Kitty AMPS 93, Down to .1 tonight! Syringe qstn

good luck with the dosecrease!

I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to pull back on the plunger before shooting. You might suck that drop back into the barrel so it wouldn't come out, right? I don't know, I never did that anyway, I just stuck the needle in and shot.

(((Kathy & Kitty))) Yay on the microdose....! Awesome.. cheering you both on!!

Re: 4/10 Kitty AMPS 93, Down to .1 tonight! Syringe qstn

Absolutely amazing! Who would have thought ol' Kitty would be down to .1u?

Re: 4/10 Kitty AMPS 93, Down to .1 tonight! Syringe qstn

Awsome news Kathy.
I never pulled the plunger back.
I just made sure that wehn I pushed the insulin t I held the plunger firmly
and did not take out the needle to quickly.
That one last drop is your only drop.

Congrats!!!!!!! Beautiful numbers too, oh and BTW you made me crazy about the beef food
when I saw Max's numbers go up a bit.

Re: 4/10 Kitty PMPS 90 - TWO drops left!!!

ARRRGGGGHHHHHH. We used the brilliant "count the drops using the old insulin method," and we pushed out two 1/2 drops.

We could really use a picture of how big a drop is! But from where we were this morning, we removed a medium drop, and the plunger now TOUCHES the zero line.

Then we took out another drop, and the plunger was in the middle of the line.

So we can do one of two things:

1. Tomorrow, take out a large drop from where we are today. Finish a week, and then quit, leaving a little liquid still in the syringe.

2. Study patience, and shoot for two weeks.

Guidance????????

ah the memories of that last drop....sigh @-)

are u twisting the plunger left/right to squeeze out the excess?
practicing with water on used syringes?
seriously, practice is your best bet, I did blow up the pic as big as I could of that fat drop and printed it. Might help.

Congrats Kathy! Exciting news!!

Ronnie, I like Jill's answer better!!!!!

We took an old syringe and an old bottle of real insulin. But I think we were conservative with the drops.

I really think we've been at .25, based on the pictures. But even if we were at .3, we'd be reducing him only .2 now, not even .25, and I'll bet Jill thinks our little guy can handle that. :-D

I choose Door #1!!!!!

This is so cool, another micro dose kitty! The struggles of that last dose are the happiest struggles on the insulin adventures, you must smile the whole time as you wrestle with the syringe. Yeah Kitty!

I have to add, DH says he doesn't think we should rush. :YMSIGH:

But you're right, CD. This is the best problem I could have.

I thought that what I called 0.1 was pretty easy, easier to measure than most of the doses actually. I put on my monster reading glass and just left the teeniest sliver of light above the zero line. When I practiced with water and squirted it out onto wax paper, it was about a medium sized drop.

Good luck with the dose! At this point it probably doesn't matter if it's a small, medium, or large drop, as long as it's just a drop.

Thank you, everyone!

Libby...... :dizcat I agree, the dose is easy to measure, because we can come right up to the line. But we measured to that point with the old insulin, then proceeded to get TWO drops out of the syringe. ohmygod_smile

I think my drops are too stingy. I'm going to expand my definition of a drop! Yeah, that's the ticket!!!
