4/10 — 7:00 AM Shot In 3.5 Hours; DOSING Advice Needed...

Simmy has been all over the place! He's been very high for a day and now he's trending lower. I just tested (+8) and he's 135. He gets Soulistic Chicken Dinner and in between feedings he gets Tiki Cat Chicken Mousse. I just gave him another 1 oz. or so.

Chart here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qdEpmlDnBBhr2rANk5bZsNbxO8y7TduJA8d_LYfTinw/edit?usp=sharing

Please help! Should I maintain the .75 dosage if he is above a certain number come 7:00 AM? Or drop it down to .5 below a certain number?

Thank you so much.

Just checking you are using a human meter and Lantus ?
I would get a test at +10 and +11 and see what the BSLs are. Post and we can decide closer to the time. AMPS in about 2 1/2 hours. Is that correct?
Are you able to test during the cycle if you shoot a lower number ?
Do you have plenty of strips and high carb food ?

135 isn’t a bad number at all, infact it’s still on the higher side of ideal, and changing the dosage around isn’t usefully it mucks up the depot too. I would wait and see what comes in the next couple of hours.

I remember when I was first seeing the blue numbers more and even green, it felt scary low compared to the high reds and blacks and pinks! But actually it’s not that low. So don’t panic yet.

Can you remove the 911 from the title? That is reserved for actual emergencies to draw attention in. Keep the question there and change it to the question mark icon instead.

@Bron and Sheba

Yes, human meter plus Lantus (out of Solostar pen).

Yes, plenty of strips and high carb food and can test during the cycle (I think)—What are those times?

I tested him at +11 (6:30 AM) and he was 429—This is perplexing! Do you know the reason why he would have jumped so much? Did the Lantus wear off? Didn't get a +10 because I'd fallen asleep before I got any responses.

Going w/ .75 in 15 minutes unless advised differently...

@flyingduster

I apologize—Title fixed. :D

Thanks so much!

I would say that Simmy is bouncing from the 135 during the PM cycle which is the lowest he has dropped for a while. Bouncing occurs when kitty drops too fast, drops too far or drops lower than he is used to being. While the 135 is a completely safe number, Simmy's body most likely thought he was dropping too low ( because he is used to being in higher numbers now) and sent a 911 to his body which then produced glucose and regulatory hormones which sent his BSL skyrocketing. Bounces can last for 1 to 6 cycles and there is nothing you can do about them. They are normal. You just have to wait for it to resolve.
Yes I would give him the 0.75 units insulin.

When you have time would you be able to setup your signature please. That way we won't have to keep asking you questions about type of insulin etc.
To do it, go to the top right of this page and click on your user name. Choose signature. Write in yours and kitty's names, date of diagnosis, type of insulin and meter, any other illnesses and meds, which country you live in, and then save. Thanks !
The information will appear below all your posts.
