Hi Everyone,
Finally got Rusty's condo opened for today. We had a great Earth Hour party last night and played games (Mexican Train Dominoes, Takaradi, and Pear/Pears) until midnight. Then the cleaning up, so this morning, after Rusty's test, we all went btb. Then we wanted to get in a walk before the rain started, so I'm a little late.
My acquaintance whose cat was just diagnosed with diabetes is coming over again this afternoon to watch me test Rusty and to have me help her set up her new Arkray Mini meter. Her cat is on Humulin N (1 unit bid), about which I know nothing, but I told her that I have heard that it is not a good insulin for cats. But that's what the vet prescribed and she doesn't want to challenge the vet. So we have talked about the importance of home testing vs. taking the cat in every 2 weeks for a fructosoime test, and the importance of feeding lo carb wet food. And she is eager to begin testing, just so she knows what her cat is doing. Her cat was a dry food addict (as are her other 2 cats), but she has switched them all to Wellness and they like it. I've told her about FDMB, but for the time being she wants to stick with the vet, even though I told her it wasn't an either/or situation. She could learn a lot on the Health Board, even though the Humulin N forum seems to be moribund. She has been reading Dr. Lisa's website; I advised her to start there on the nutrition and diabetes pages.
Rusty and Shadow had an encounter this morning. Shadow came across the street as soon as he saw Rusty and danced and pranced about while Rusty ignored him (they did touch noses). Then Shadow kicked up his heals and rain about 20 feet up a tree (Rusty watched). He managed to jump down and ran over to Rusty, who took a swat at him and hissed and then walked calmly to the door!! No squirrels or chipmunks were in evidence.
Be back later,
