Lowest on record, huh? Not a great record to hold, IMO. :?

Oh, and part of the reason I was so calm yesterday... I did the whole thing with a migraine headache. The +2 number I needed was missed because he and I both fell asleep in a sunbeam. I had to stay calm because that was the only way I could think.

I think in a lot of ways today is worse than yesterday. He feels like crap today. I feel guilt for shooting him so low (guilt is irrational...).

A migraine? You two are quite the pair. And no, not a great record, kind of mind blowing actually, especially because you're using a very good meter.

You didn't know the shot would take him so low. Do you think he was stressed out yesterday from all the testing? I'm sorry he's not feeling well today and running from you. Give him time. cat_pet_icon

I am sure he's stressed from all the testing yesterday. I am pretty much giving him the day off from testing. I only plan to get 3-4 tests. Him not eating today has me most concerned. He didn't eat yesterday, either... after breakfast, anyway.

Donna, does he have a history of pancreatitis? I wonder because if he had something "simmering" that could explain elevated numbers, and then if it got worse in the past few days and decreased his appetite, the .25u dose was too much for that situation (which you didn't know was happening, of course). I'm trying to remember how much I had to decrease Beau's dose when he had his last, worst P-titis flare, but that was vetsulin (I think), but I know I had to decrease and he was still in lower numbers.

Have you dealt with ptitis? A decreased appetitie is the first symptom, along with withdrawal, hiding and "meatloafing" if there is a lot of pain. I handled it with pepcid (the single ingredient kind), syringing food and water - and a lot of angst. The better way to go is to also add sub-Q fluids and pain meds, which I know new, but didn't then.

It is important to get some food into him, so do what you can to entice him with his favorites, and syringe if you have to. That's a necessary pain too, as you say.

Hope things settle down and he was just stressed from the low and then the pokes and will come out and eat for you. And, gosh, all that through a migraine? I'm sure glad I never had to deal with low numbers AND a migraine at the same time. I hope YOU feel better today. Try some peppermint tea with a little honey and, if it isn't too hot down there, breath in the steam a bit as you drink it.

Sheila, likely he was coming off of the pancreatitis attack. I didn't recognize the symptoms because to my knowledge he had never had one before. The move likely triggered it. Still, his numbers warranted some outside insulin help. I just never expected him to drop like a rock! I was prepared for 30s -- mid-30s.
