Good morning everyone!!

Zoey is back down to 1.0 after his 49 yesterday, so we shall see how that goes for him! He sure does like to bounce!

Another busy work day for me today; feeling so tired when I get home from work I just crash! It should slow down soon, so I'm thankful for that! I hope everyone has a fabulous Wednesday!

Good evening!! I just was wondering if its ok to go ahead and give Zoey his insulin when he has a low preshot number? I have never shot him this low, is it ok to go ahead and do it?

Hope everyone has had a fabulous day! It's been a crazy one here and I haven't had a chance to get on all day! I'm glad its Wednesday!

Ok, I just went and read through the stickies (again. One day it will stay in my brain, I hope lol) and a low preshot number looks to be a 50 or lower, or shooting green for the first time. I think me and Zoey are good with shooting our lowest so far because its not THAT low :) Just in case, we have lots of test strips and foods if needed :) I think we will go ahead with it :)

Hi Emily, it's nice to see those blues! We usually start at a lower limit of 150, then gradually work down. The main things are:
1. Do you have plenty of strips?
2. Are you going to be around to test?
3. Do you have MC, HC and/or karo or honey in case Zoey goes low (below 50) or goes low fast (more than 20 or 30 points below 130 at +2)?

If the answer is yes to all of these, you are ok to shoot.

ETA: Please get a +1 and +2 to see where he's going. It looks like he has done an all-day slide so he's dropping even before the shot. You will need to keep a close eye on the numbers.

HI Emily, make sure you get a +1 and a +2 so you can see where he is going. It's exciting to see such a fast response to Lantus!

Thanks Liz and Wendy! I do have plenty of strips, I will be home all evening and I have MC, HC, and honey :) I will test at +1 and +2! And thanks for letting me know to watch him if he drops too fast! I like to know specifics, if you hadn't noticed (lol), so knowing that 20-30 below constitutes too fast is awesome :) I know what to watch for and I will keep you updated!!!

That 20 or 30 point drop at +2 is my own standard, that is not a LL standard. I like specifics too! I can't help it, it's my inner German. :lol: :lol:

I like suggested specifics, even if they aren't written in stone :) So he's down to 101 at +1, a bit of a fast drop there? Can I give him some LC food or should I do MC? Wait another hour or test sooner? He seems fine, so I'm not worried, just want to do the right thing :smile:

Sorry I've been away from the computer. That is a pretty big drop for early in the cycle. I would give some MC, just a couple of teaspoons. You don't want to fill him up. Does he generally have a good appetite?

He has been hungrier the last couple days, but he's a grazer. I gave him a couple tsp. What percent would you recommend as MC?

Seems like 8-13% is considered MC but I can't remember exactly or where I saw that. :roll:

That's ok! Seems like a good number to me, I know I saw it somewhere too but I can't remember either lol. I gave him some 9%. Yesterday when he was in the green 14% brought him up really fast, so I hope 9% will be gentler, but also enough to slow him down a bit. Thanks!!!

Man! He's either bouncing to the moon or dropping like a stone!! Maybe time for some 14%?? A tsp or two?

I gave him two tsp of 14%... Should I test at +2.5 or wait until +3? He's feeling fine, keep talking to Zukey and singing, lol. Being a weirdo, lol.

I probably would not feed and test again at +3. You don't want to fill him up because it could be a bit of a poke fest tonight.

Ahhh, a poke-fest, his least favourite type of 'fest'. :razz: He's run off to the bedroom to take cover... he gets another 15 minute reprieve before I have to go and scout him out...

Ok, he's still climbing a bit and that was without food since just after +2. Should I still wait to feed him and test in another half an hour?

I think you are ok to wait an hour to test since you've gotten two rising numbers. The HC can wear off though so you want to stay diligent. Has he had his normal amount of food?

Thanks Liz :) I'll test again at +4. Ya, pretty much. I usually give him a little bit at 11 (+4) before I head to bed on a normal night. If he went over to his food spot anytime between +3 and +4 I'd give it to him early though. Should I just do what I normally would do?

I wouldn't feed him again before you test. You want to see what his BG is without the influence of food. You want to see if it's ok to go to bed. Wow, that 14% does seem to raise his BG.

Ya, I definitely wouldn't go to bed until I know he's not rising just from a food spike. Its crazy how sensitive he is! The other day he had a mix of 20% gravy and 14% gravy and he shot up so fast! He definitely has a delicate balance that I need to learn!!

Do you have an automatic feeder or some way to leave food out for him? Also, does he get a pokey treat, when you don't feed him? That will help a lot with his "enthusiasm" for testing. :lol:

Unfortunately I don't have an automatic feeder... He does get freeze dried turkey or freeze dried liver only at treat time :) He's really docile so he doesn't put up a fuss. He just gives a little moan when I poke him, its heartbreaking :( But he's really good about it, I just know it's not his favourite thing! The most anger or upset you get from Zoey is a moan, lol.

He's up to 110, could I give him something to eat before I lay down? I can get up in an hour or two to see what he tests at, I don't mind, if you recommend that. And I can wait till then to feed him if you think I should wait.

Just a question for the morning, if he has a preshot similar to tonight, do I still shot? I can't be home until +3 at the earliest... would I shot and leave him with MC/HC food?

What a sweet guy. It does get easier even if it stings a little bit. It kind of looks to me like he might be starting a bounce. That's what he did yesterday AM. I would feed him his normal amount now. If you want to test again in an hour or two, so that you feel better, you can do that. If you go to bed, leave some food out for him and the other two.

I think your plan for what to do with a lower AMPS is good. It also depends if he's rising or falling at AMPS. Tonight, he was falling so he had some downward momentum at the shot so you have to be even more diligent. If you have to go to work, give him some MC food since he seems to be pretty sensitive to that and leave MC food out. Better that he does a little high than too low from lack of food.

Thank you so much Liz! Thanks for helping me through his little drop and walking me through what to do tonight and in the morning! I feel so much better having a plan for the morning :-D

I will feed him his normal nighttime snack now and get all the boys tucked in for bed. I hope you have a great night and thank you again!! :-D :-D
