Pet sitter update:
Some positive news: I think I've found someone to look after Girlie at home. I contacted every vet in the area, and 0ne of them suggested a vet nurse of theirs who's had experience looking after diabetic cats before. I'll meet her next Friday. She'll stay at my house and is happy to test Girlie's BG before each shot and at other times if she can. Fingers crossed she'll work out. I just think Girlie will do better at home than in a cage at the vet's. And Deesh has the option of calling on the vet she works for or the vets she knows at the ARH where I've been taking Girlie in case of an emergency. So it sounds hopeful!

Now I just have to tidy up the house before she comes for a visit. Right now it looks like a bomb has hit what with me doing nothing but focusing on Girlie and trying to take care of Max in exile in the rest of the house and rest as much as possible myself when I can. And still the taxes to finish ... and get stuff for the trip to India...yikes!

Hope all kitties are well and happy! :)

That sounds like good news on the petsitter front! I hope it works out for you. I'm sure Girlie and Max will prefer being in their own place.

I'm actually going to board Max at Cat Utopia as it's a handful trying to take care of him in one half of the house and Girlie in the other - AND trying to negotiate Max's cat litter boxes in the bathroom (not fun). This way Girlie can have the run of the house and everything will be easy-peasy for the pet sitter.

I am so nervous about leaving her in anyone else's hands, to be honest. But I guess a vet nurse at my house is better than a cage in the ICU at the vet's. It will have to be a leap of faith on my part! :nailbiting:

I'm so glad you've got a possible option where Girlie can stay home, I think that would be the best solution. I was so lucky before diabetes, my parents would come by and check on the boys, feed them their canned food, top up their dry, and give them some attention. But with Mav now, I think it would be too much. I had hoped to find a vet tech too if and when I am able to get a vacation! Hope Girlie's on her best behaviour for the Intro visit :p:cat:

No demo of poo and pukas allowed when the vet tech comes by, for sure!

It's so hard leaving our babies, isn't it... I am convinced that no one can take care of Girlie better than I can. I'm sure we all feel this way!

BTW: Mav just has the cutest expression on his face in his pic there - what a sweetie.

Hi Darrah! And good luck with the vet nurse. I find it is always easier to have them stay at home than be at the vet's boarded. Bubba stops eating when not at home.... I am lucky to have found a wonderful pet sitter that was interested in learning to test BG's/

I understand the dilemma with trying to man 2 cats and 2 different routines. Good luck with it all.

Thanks so much. I know all the medical stuff to go over with her - but are there things I should look out for in a pet sitter? Any tips on what to ask or look for?
Maybe I'll buy a teddy bear and put a nanny cam in it...but that would be going too far, I'm sure! Crazy me...
