So phoebe woke us up puking white foam at 4 am she had had her zofram, pepcid last night. I think she ate her cat cicle too early. Her +9.5 from last night was 315. She didn't want her breakfast right away but after the am zofram she ate her breakfast. Shot 6.0. If there is an insulin god, let this be the magic number. My hubby and I are talking about if we need to pts. :(:(:( she just doesn't seem happy most of the day. How much damage has the flare ups and IBD affected her. Are we just doing this for us. We did the quality of life scale and it's on the line.

It's so hard to know. I'm sure that when the pancreatitis is flaring, and the IBD is worse, that she's feeling pretty yucky, and it's so hard to watch that. I know that you've also reported some good days from her, but you are seeing her every day, and it sounds like a lot of the recent days haven't been so good.

I hope that she can turn it around soon and that her pancreas can quiet itself down-- these flares can last a while, but while she's still eating and drinking well, there is a chance for improvement. I also hope that this dose gives some kind of breakthrough. I'm not sure how much the (moderately) high BG numbers are adding to her discomfort, but human diabetics do report that it doesn't feel good when they run high, so lowering them might help her feel a little bit better.

In the meantime, give her lots of extra snuggles and skritches, and let her know how loved she is. You are a great mamabean for taking such wonderful care of her! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Ty @Nan & Amber it's really hard to watch her walk back and forth from the food bowel to the back room, then follows me every where waiting for food. Her life is food. No playing with her snake anymore. She does get up on my chest and stares at me with a purr or two. But only because she is waiting to be fed. I don't want to loose her after all we have done so far, and her numbers haven't given her a "chance". It's so hard to know what to do.

Is she currently getting any meds for the pancreatitis that stimulate appetite, or just for the nausea? Is she underweight or overweight right now? Even though her numbers aren't super-high for feline diabetes, they might still be making her feel hungry all the time. Honestly, while she's still in yellows and pinks, I'd be inclined to feed her a bit more if she wants it. I know we talked about experimenting with changing feeding schedules to see what the effect on her numbers was, but it seems like there are larger underlying issues at play keeping her in that yellow-pink band, and I would hate to have her going hungry. One of my biggest regrets as a pet owner was listening to a vet who insisted that I put my overweight kitty on a very restrictive diet. I followed the vet's instructions to the letter, my cat was utterly miserable and didn't lose an ounce, and then six months later I lost her to cancer :(. Not advocating letting Phoebe pig out entirely, and of course feline obesity is a problem in itself, just saying it's important to balance the qol issues with the medical advice.

She is completely underweight. Last time she was weighed it was 12.4 she's supposed to be 14. We haven't needed appy supps yet. She is very interested in eating only when early in morning before zofram has she not eaten, but after about 30 40 mins after, she is interested. That is aweful for your furbaby, I am so sorry. :(In total she is eating about 4 cans a day. And she is still wanting more. Presently unless eating, this is where and how she stays.

Was it prednisolone that Phoebe was oringinally on for her IBD? I wonder if budesonide might be an option to consider. Neko was diagnosed with IBD/lymphoma, couldn't test because of her heart condition. But she was doing the morning foamy vomits fairly regularly. Anyway, within a couple of days of starting budesonide, the foamy vomiting stopped. It also reduced the inflammation in her bowels and made her feel a lot better.

I am glad to see that she is sprawled out and not meat loafing which is a good sign that she is comfortable.

Isn't budesonide a steroid? Yes it was the pred she was on and developed diabetes. I am afraid to use any steroid because of that fact. With her loosing the weight vet seems to think lymphoma is a high probability but I will not put her thru biopsy and/or surgery to find out for sure. We just wanted to treat the symptoms as they came.

I forgot to add than budesonide doesn't impact the blood sugar like pred does, it is more location specific to the gut so less other side effects too.

We also assumed and treated Neko as lymphoma, based on just ultrasound results. She couldn't have anesthesia so no biopsy. And yes, budesonide is a steroid, but different than pred and used for kitties with diabetes and/or heart conditions.

And it doesn't raise the bg or create insulin resistance?

No, it did not in Neko and she was on small doses at the time. I have seen a few other kitties here on budesonide and really tiny doses.

You can get it in 1 mg pills, which are quite tiny so fairly easy to pill, just once a day. I got the pills from the Internal medicine vet. I had so many pills I was giving that I shortly after got it compounded fish flavour at the local compounding pharmacy, to make life easier. And that was actually cheaper.

Can you look at this video of her walking excuse the mess.

She does look like she is walking carefully, like she has arthritis. Same when she lies down. I might add a discussion of Adequan when you talk to your vet. That helped Neko a bit, but it was the acupuncture that really helped her.
