I kneww it was too quiet. Found Clancy sitting on table staring at stove, with strange noises coming from stove.
"oh drats" says I, "must be amouse under stove". no, it's Checkers on top of stove eating the tuna from container I forgot to put away....I don't even know how he got the top off the plastic container. Grrrrr!
twas a nice +1, tho :-D

so so nice! GO CHECKS. I love these numbers - what a testimonial to Lev. Too funny on the tuna - well at least it was just tuna, and not something else...

To clarify, it wasn't my food.....no contraband at all, it was just a can of tuna dumped into plastic container, with top left on loosely, I guess. Little brat, shouldn't be on stove!! Yuck!!

interesting to see how much better the Lev is working for him, can someone explain why that might be? the mechanics of Lev vs Lantus. I've tried looking up the info but would be interested in some 'regular' person info? Course I just got FIVE new vials of Lantus, but only $109 so not too bad. But I'd love info on Lev in case I need to talk to the vet about it next visit. Rupert just seems to keep bouncing wildly on the Lantus.

Pip, I don't know the mechanics of it. I read the stickie about the difference between the two, even printed it out to study it, but it didn't answer the questions I have.
Levemir was suggested to me by several people I trust, to try to even out Checks wild swings.
For me, I wanted his curve flattened, and his nadir pushed back further. His onset and nadir were coming on top of each other.

I resisted for a while, because I also had new pens. In my case I have only two, but at over $40 apiece, I wasn't anxious to stop using them. But for me only it was worth it.
I bought a vial of lev, for $130, cheapest I could get around here. If this continues to be best for him, I'll get the pens next time.

Just why Lantus is good for some cats and Lev for others isn't really know. Once injected Lantus forms micro-crystals because of the difference in ph in the body as opposed to the solution and then slowly redissolves into solution again and becomes available. Levemir bonds w/ itself and/or w/ albumin molecules in the bloodstream. As the bonds slowly break down the molecules are small enough to pass into the cells. perhaps individual body chemistry is the answer.

Ann, I have the paperwork explaining it , but still couldn't repeat it, so......what Devon said :-D

My wonderful, smart boy kept telling me to test him. He kept going up on the testing table and meowing at me.
I thought he just wanted treats, but finally told him, "okay, but yer getting poked first. :o

He had gone down from what I thought was his nadir today. Yikes!

wow! and wow again! seems like this is the stuff for him! and what a clever boy! I'm hoping that we can get Rupie regulated on Lantus but if he keeps this bouncing up much longer I'll definitely inquire about Lev. Want to rule out the 'infection' side of things first of course, but amazed at the turn around on your boy, so darned fast. And the fact that he doesn't seem to have the wild bounce backs from these low numbers.

Late nadirs, the down side of using Lev. :roll: But for numbers like these it's worth it! it just takes a little getting used to, after all it's only been a week.

Oh wow!!! Checkers has found his perfect juice.

I actually LOVE the late nadir of lev. Gracie gets so much longer duration out of this insulin.

And I think Ann is smart, too!!! Lev video or not...you still gotta understand what they are saying. ;-) ;-)

Is Checks getting a little something special to eat for that 41? I bet he hasn't nadired yet......

The later nadir is what I was hoping for with lev. I just didn't expect him to go back down after rising at +5.

I lost track of time and didn't test again for an hour....bad mom. In my defense, I had given him gravy food, that I knew would bring him up quickly.. :-D

Thank you for encouragement, it means so much to me.

can someone explain to me the reason a late nadir is sometimes undesirable? or more inconvenient? or something? just curious, still trying to learn as much as possible!

I have so many memories of you talking about Checkers, just laying in his chair/bed snoozing away, not wanting to eat, kinda blah.
This week (with such great BG's), it seems so much of his character is surfacing again. It is fun to hear you talk about him the way you are. cat_pet_icon

I really hope this continues.....

Checks may like doing what Gracie does....maybe a little late nadir from the previous shot AFTER the current shot. Then up a little (65) although you did give him MC; then onset (41) and up because you gave him MC and now he's headed for nadir in the home stretch. This looks like lovely overlap to me today, Barb....gor-geous!

I would watch him closely now. Missy G almost ALWAYS dips between +10 and +12 and if she's in green, we have to feed the +10 so she gives me a shootable number. Let's see what pattern Checkers sets up.

Pip: to answer your question...a late nadir can just be tough on the bean. If you shoot lev say at 7/7 and kitty doesn't nadir until +8 or so...then you are up every night between onset and nadir unless your kitty is VERY flat (like Alex). I think the +12 nadirs are nice because you can shoot low knowing kitty is going to come up for a few hours before onset. But if you get a kitty like Gracie who usually nadirs from her previous shot AFTER her current shot, you just gotta be careful and pick the patterns out as quickly as you can and be prepared. I know if I shoot her low, she's going to keep coming down in most cases because she hasn't hit nadir yet. Shooting low is a benefit BUT the other pro is her amount of overlap is great.

I think I have a little bit of intelligence, but this really confuses me.
We haven't been on lev long enough to me to know a pattern.

I fed at +10.5
Now at 11.5, he is at 141.......food spike

So if he's still a nice number at ps, it'll still be food spike. Whaaaaaa, I want my mommy.

I wonder if his nadir was earlier in the cycle (before +4) and his onset at +6. When they get really good overlap, it's almost impossible to tell nadir from onset especially when we are controlling with food.

FWIW, I don't worry quite as much about food spikes as I used to because we know about them and we test alot. You're good. AND you're VERY intelligent.

And lev patterns are not easy to figure out....many days we are just scratching our heads and rolling with it. So try not to get too worried.

wow, Checkers is sure liking the Lev so far. This is great to see! Maybe a little tiring for you, until you figure out his patterns. But it's good to hear that he is happy!
