Oh Paula, just reading all of this, I'm so happy Tux is feeling better, jeez why do our kitties have to get these weird things, he must feel so much better with that thing gone, Hoping for a speedy recovery:bighug:
 
Dr. James Herriot, British vet has a story in one of his books about a cat that was doing poorly. Dr.James finally did exploratory surgery and found a humongous hairball. This was back in the 1940's, 1950's. So not as many diagnostic tools back then.

Geoffrey Hatfield’s tabby cat. Lived in the sweet shop. Suffered from unexplained loss of weight. A hairball was found to be the cause of the trouble and was removed surgically.
